There are no new players in the new player section...

No doubt the tutorial and training grounds have made it much less necessary to come there for new players.

No new players huh? ever? quite a statement there.

This could also suggest that less people come to these forums to post since there is less issues than during closed beta.

That theory doesn't explain the longer wait times nor running into the same groups repeatedly, so while I salute your positive viewpoint, I don't think it's correct.

C'mon man, you know that opinion and fact are totally interchangeable around here.

YMMV, I neither experience long wait times, and just the simple exercise of getting up to refill my cocktail changes who I'm matched with/against. Take a breath before pressing that launch button and you may find a completely different mix of players.

What tutorial? That thing they threw together that kinda sorta teaches you how to move in third person? The training grounds? You mean the place that doesn't take skills into account, and where weapons behave completely differently?

Yeah, no.

I find this thread amusing.

"PGI doesn't communicate anymore"!
So, in the past month, we've had a new map preview, 2 tests on the test server, including UI2.0, Paul discussing the hit box pass that he's been working on including naming the mechs that got the pass (comming this tuesday), and a dev post discussing why the next patch will be huge and why we're getting a free day of premium time (when they didn't have to). Clearly they've stopped talking to us!

"Stuff I bought over a year ago wasn't as nice as the stuff I got now!"
Prices change and things happen. This game likely doesn't happen without the founders, but complaining about things getting cheaper sounds more like sour grapes when it should be applauded for offering players more value for their buck. Sure, it would have been nice if the founders got more, but you also have had your stuff to play with for over a year.

"Things aren't balanced!"
Sure, but it takes time to balance things, and we're better balanced now than we were 6 months ago. It's not perfect, but I expect balance changes to keep trickling in slowly.

"I want Feature X"
Yeah, they've taken longer than most folks have expected with features, but they are trying to be open about them. UI2.0 had a test, and they layed out some pretty impressive plans for CW. I can understand folks getting tired if they've been waiting longer than I have, but it's not like the game's unplayable now.

"3PV!"
Lots of rage here. I think it's silly, and most folks I know who were initially pissed by 3PV have moved on with the anger and resumed playing (I know 1 player who quit over it).

"My friends are leaving"
People come and go. My unit has been recruiting like crazy and brought a bunch of fresh faces into the fold. Sure, we've lost a few, but the growth has been almost entirely positive. I might recommend making new friends?

Look, currently, MWO isn't costing you any more money than what you put into it to keep playing, so you can keep playing for "free" if you wish, or even take a break and not lose anything. But just because you're tiring of the game (and yes, it happens, folks tire of playing a game), doesn't mean the entire community is corroding. The state of the game is better than it was pre-"launch", even if it's far from perfect.

<---- There's the door don't let it hit you on the way out. Features and additions get delayed in games all the time, if it really bothers you so much and if you and all your drop mates are so impatient that they're all leaving, go head and leave. Constantly bitching about it, while stating how terrible PGI is, and how greedy they are etc etc is neither constructive, nor is it that mature to begin with. Honestly you sound like a angsty teenager in most of your posts.

Sir, while I find optimism generally refreshing, I must respectfully argue that the game is becoming so stagnant as to drive away even the most ardent players. More so than that, I must take umbrage with your commentary on people "coming and going" to the game. "Make new friends?" Good Lord. Perhaps you might consider for a moment that you are one of the lucky few who still has a group to play with, or who manages to find people who care enough about the game to play with any sort of regularity? For a growing number of people, this is far from the reality they experience upon logging in.

How far have we fallen as human beings when those of us who share a love of this game are now so openly hostile towards those who offer an opinion contrary to our own?

But only your camp's done that. The rest of us are dealing with the reality that the game's bleeding players.

As a fun status update, I dug up a post from an August thread about the state of the game.

View PostTolkien, on 31 August 2013 - 05:17 AM, said:

Not sure if trolling but I'll take the bait....

1) Community warfare was supposed to be in 90 days after they rushed to open beta. 270 days later+ still nothing.

2) Clans were supposed to invade when the 1:1 realtime calendar hit summer. They were supposed to be here 2 months ago and nothing, calendar now frozen.

3) Still no such thing as a lobby so you can't scrimmage against your friends or run events.

4) Still no in game voice chat so pugs still get erased by 4 mans.

5) still no DX11 for crossfire etc.

6) Still no UI 2.0

7) Still no role warfare skill trees - some skills like pinpoint don't actually do anything either.

8) Information warfare still no function for the command console despite being in game for ~15 months, NARC still unusable, ECM still top dog but BAP now at least counters ECM.

9) Still no dropship mode.

10) Capture points still not bases with turrets, but at least they have a glowing fence.

11) New mechs, couple new maps, hit detection still bugged but mostly working

12) Collisions/knockdown still not back in.

13) Devs utterly screwing founders who paid in for a 1pv game by forcing everyone to play against 3pv.

So yeah, pretty stunning progress, but stunning by omission not by completion.

Granted that post is 3 months old now.

I think we can all agree they've made very good progress the last 3 months.

The camp that's convinced PGI's 1/4 tutorial and the training grounds are sufficent for teaching new players how the game works. Fact is, they promised a better new player experience back in late 2012, but all we've gotten are slightly less bad champions to replace the stocks.

Which they waited until release to implement...

That's why this thread exists though.
First people ignored it, then they argued, then they left, and now we're here.

Everyone, by that logic, is a form of a neutral party, but you clearly have a side you agree with more, and are therefore part of a sect of that "camp"

Can you find where I've actually said that and not the exact opposite?

If I'm in any "Camp" it's the anti-hyperbole camp. You'd think I wouldn't stand alone so often.

There's a difference between posting constructive criticism and just talking out one's rear end. Unfortunately in Rain's case his rear end seems to do all the talking for him.
