I started off in this game by buying enough MC to buy the Yen-Lo-Wang when it first came out so I'd have a nice mech right away without too much grinding in trial mechs. I eventually bought some more MC for the Hero Commando and mech bays (how dumb is it we have to pay for mech bays? And when will we be able to rearrange their order?). Then I ended up buying the Overload and Sabre packages, most of the mechs I haven't had a chance to try yet.
So, I've spent well over $100 on this one game. I know it's the money-pit draw that makes Free to Play so profitable for companies, but when I consider that I can buy extremely polished, complete games for my PS3 for $20 ($60 if they're new releases), I consider myself completely tapped out on Mechwarrior Online. No more spending for me, there are way too many other things (such as a dozen other games at $20 each) I could spend $240 on, especially considering after my Overlord package, I've got a ways to go to Elite/Master all those mechs.
I'd also like to see some improvements to the game rather than just new mechs... where's the VOIP? Sorry, I'm not interested in setting up a third-party solution. I want to be able to start MWO, and when I'm in a match automatically be able to voice chat with my team. Where's the DX11? As I understand it, there's some performance to be gained there. Where's the other game modes? Seriously, how hard would it be to implement a last-mech-standing mode?
The company needs to look to different companies as role models... instead of World of Tanks with it's expensive pricing model, they should look to other successful MMO companies for how they do F2P pricing. And they really need to look towards some of the multi-player market leaders for some ideas on how to expand this game.
Back to the pricing, though... it doesn't matter how much the mechs will cost in-game. If that translates into a ridiculous figure in real-world money, it's time to offer a package deal! Overload, the new Clan expansion... none of these should ever be offered for more than $60. And Hero mechs? $5-10. Look at how well Sarah's Jenner sold... the donation aspect was a bonus, but the key thing was the price was right for a nice mech.
I've probably spent $100-200 on each of LOTRO and DDO, but that's over time where they suckered me into little increments and the occasional $50-$80 expansion that came with a lot of content and bonuses to make it worth it. To ask people for $240 up front is ridiculous.
The $500 mechs... I'm sure they know that's stupid pricing, it was likely done simply as a PR stunt. Those mechs aren't aimed at real players (who'll want all the mechs), they're aimed at people with more money than brains who'll volunteer for target practice for the rest of us. ;-)

Exactly, they are vanity/luxury items for people that want (need) to show off and have more money than sense.
They are meant for the High Rollers, not the masses.
I don't see anything wrong with this, if someone wants to spend $500 on a Gold Mech then let them.
No one is forcing these purchases on anyone.
If they don't sell then they were too expensive if they do sell then they were priced just right.

I can't wait to see them strutting about in game.
Also getting so bent out of shape about it only proves how much people want Gold Mechs

Me on the other hand, I've been having a blast with this game despite its problems, I cannot wait for the content coming this Tuesday. After all, we are finally going to have some new content like: Thunderbolt variants, a new HPG map, a Skirmish game mode and much more, and I'm happy for that. So the only thing I will do is be patient with these changes.

The standard packs seem steep right now, but I imagine warhorns will be quite valuable, whatever they are. We don't know yet. Also, it's twice the price of legendary founders (4 mechs) for 24 mechs + stuff, which effectively means you are paying twice the price for 5 times the mechs plus content.
My one gripe is that it would be nice to have at least some choice of which mechs you want, because I would like to have the timberwolf early, but dont have that kind of money to throw around at the moment. I wont go higher than the adder package. Also, we don't know what the extra content (warhorns) are, or what they are worth. It would be nice to know soon, so people can stop having aneurisms thinking the pack is WAY overpriced when at worst it is SORT OF overpriced (which isn't good, but not nearly as bad as WAY overpriced).
Also, once again, gold mechs aren't even for us, they're for collectors.

It's not like they pull everyone off of the teams working on UI 2.0 and CW to make the Gold Skins

We get a new Map, a new Game Mode, Standard Thunderbolts and the Sabre Package tomorrow!

At first, I was outraged at a $240 package. The mere thought of that just made me almost uninstall the game, seeing as I've spent several hundred dollars on this game already. But then I calmed down, and began to think about the packaging logically.
First off, you get 24 mechs total for $240. That's a mech and a mechbay for 10 bucks each. Thinking about it like that, it's not so bad in my opinion. Then there's the premium time, and the fact that some of the mechs will be a unique variant.
I suppose the drawback is that if you only wanted one of the mechs that is only available in a higher dollar package, then I can see the argument of wasted money for mechs you don't want. As for me, I enjoy piloting various things, and would love to get my hands on some of those clan mechs I remember from my childhood in MW2, so I'll work a weekend of overtime, and have the money for said mechs.
Now, on the flip side of all this, $500 for a golden mech? That's where I think that PGI has truely lost it. I don't know of anyone who would want to pay that much for one golden mech. I mean, if I'm going to pay that kind of money for one mech, it had better have such unique features. But I can't think of anything that could make any mech worth $500.
I can already picture it now: You drop into a match, and someone has a gold mech. Everyone targets and kills him quickly just because, and then goes back to the match as normal.

Its just not how Clans Work. That is wasteful to have 3 Chassis when a Trueborn only has one But to put in a seat at any time.

I've shelled out a fair amount on this game getting top tier for founds and phoenix but i'm not sure i'm confident spending another $240 when all we generally see is money making and no real content.
