SILENCE HERETIC! With the mechanics and Meta, the Wolfhound could be a very viable mech. There is no such thing as a DOA mech so far, even with those proclaiming one, they are ALWAYS wrong. So sayeth the Orion, Victor, Oxide, Spider, Blackjack, Kintario, Shadowhawk, Griffin, Wolverine, Cataphract, Thunderbolt, Battlemaster, Cicada, Trebuchet, Stalker, and Highlander. Heck, it would have been easier to list mechs that haven't been proclaimed DOA by someone at some point in time.

How about the Ostscout? It could be that if, by "controversial" they meant "mostly useless".

My mistake... Add the Awesome to the list though I think the walking barn door is more of a challenge than the others. :D

The Thorn is indeed a 20-tonner with no jump capability, and all of the variants start with a 120-rated Engine (which then gives all of them an Engine rating cap of 170).
Of note is that a STD 120 requires a total of 9.0 tons, while an XL 170 requires a total of 8.0 tons; an XL 170 plus Speed Tweak pushes the Thorn's top speed up to 156.145 kph.

Also, I take it you meant to compare the energy/missile Thorn to the energy/missile Locust (the LCT-3S) rather than to the all-energy Locust (the LCT-3M)? :D
Personally, I would say that the Thorn would be more like a slightly-lighter (with correspondingly lesser-armored), slightly-faster (154.308 kph, vs 156.145 kph) Commando.

Please have the common courtesy to quote me word for word otherwise I'll do the same for you.

In any case, it's slower than Jenners, has fewer energy hardpoints than jenners, doesn't have jump jets, and as it's armor is meaningless in the game as it can be adjusted, it loses it's only advantage to jenners.

It's all energy, and a vastly boring mech. It's good in TT and it was fun in the fiction when it came out, but it's not got anything in it's design that would give it either advantages or any interesting playstyle.

It could probably be ok, but it wouldn't be good, and it wouldn't be interesting.Perhaps if the Hero got ECM it might find a nich, but it's just not a winner in the meta.

lol, you know full well that if they released the Urbanmech these boards would be filled with hateful rants about how PGI screwed us with a completely worthless deathtrap. People would buy one, take it out, get killed in 2 minutes while doing 20 damage, and realize that they never want to relive the experience.

Personally, I want the Mongoose. It looks unique, and it's at a weight class that's not crowded.

I want it too, but... the mongoose is a chickenwalker, not a humanoid.

Indeed - in fact, the Mongoose is actually one of the few 'Mechs that is (effectively) a true digitigrade rather than a reverse-joint plantigrade (e.g. Marauder, Mad Cat). :P

Yup. Style didn't get popular til the Thanatos and NovaCat came out. always was one of my favorit eleg types, and in fact most of my jumping assault designs utilize it.
