Potatoes, man, potatoes. They're everywhere.

And the battle before that I scored 5 kills, 2 of which were solo. Team still lost.

One of the last players on my team was a Thunderbolt boating LRMs. A (P) variant Phoenix. Guy has been playing the game for years, and is still an utter potato.

Ugh. I think it's time for me to come up with a new class of potato.

In the realm of potating, there are three classes.

The baby potato is that new player. This type of potato tends to grow when you shower it with sunlight (read: advice) and water (read: experience). This type of potato is welcome, as it grows into a new plant, and is unlikely to remain a lifeless spud for too long. It eventually starts to produce its own food, which is always a welcome thing!

The normal potato is the average potato. Unable to sprout into a plant, and is content to potate in the damp, dark earth of the Steering Wheel Underhive. There isn't much more to say about this, as it is the commonest type of potato that exists in both the Inner Sphere and Clan Space.

And the last type of potato, which I have only encountered recently, is the Grand Potato. It is, simply put, an oversized potato which strongly reflects the type of mech it resides in. Slathered by immense amounts of fertiliser (read: quirks and advantageous base stats/geometry), it is content to simply remain a potato and continue growing on what is given to it. It flatly refuses to accept sunlight.

I am sharpening my knife to dispose of said grand potato(s). Unfortunately, the grand potato's mech is so fat, my Kit Fox is smaller than one of its butt cheeks. Which makes a certain Kit Fox very sad, as the Kit Fox will take forever to eat through the grand potato.

I dpn't think of them as "grand potatoes", but more like "baked potatoes". They have been cleaned, prep'd had all the accessories carefully applied to them, placed in the oven until they are cooked to perfection...but in the end, they are still potatoes

I just have no patience for trolls. Getting mad you lost, it happens to everyone. Calling teammates 'tards and garbage on a open mic just to piss people off for lols kills the game for me.

Rather depends if they deserve it or not. A lot of the time they do frankly. Certain stuff you should learn by your first 100 games, and many thousands in STILL haven't learned.

Namely, passive play is BAD PLAY.
If you are going to sit there, waiting for others to push, not speaking I'm going to lambast you.

Got to love assault/heavy drop callers that don't do as they preach.

"Push", they said. So Alpha lance moved in from the flanks to distract them.

Bravo and Charlie just sat back lobbing LRMs and PPCs.

Seriously, why did I even listen to these twits.

Having probably the worst season and worst run of games in a long time. I think it is due to my fixation with trying to shove new tech into every mech I can manage, and am essentially re-learning every mech I have. Funny thing is I swore I was not going to do much of this, but here I am shoving in LFE on mechs I previously ran XL's in for the siren's call of greater survivability (and ignoring the reality of significant speed loss); shoving in ERML on energy brawlers cuz "Dude! The range almost matches the LPL!" while downplaying the significant dump in heat. Dropping stuff and shaving armor to upgrade AC10s and 20s to Ultra versions. In short, I am regressing because I am looking for fixes where I don't think anything needed to be fixed all because some of this stuff sounds really cool, and is just "different".

Looking at the quirks list, I'm starting to get an idea of why it's so damn frustrating to play light mechs now.

All these damn structure and armor quirks. And the nerfs to weapon heat, cooldown, damage or a combination of them.

Sure, it's easy for a fatmech to say, "50-60 armor is only one alpha". That's...three full alphas from my KFX. THREE. And that's on a SINGLE component. They can have MULTIPLE of these damned armor quirks, and then layer on some more survival tree for good measure.

And then the poordubs on small, fixed-engine mechs don't even get full compensation. Why is it so hard to calculate the total heat dissipation of a mech as being (10 * 0.02) + (n_heatsinks - 10) * 0.15? Why have to distinguish between engine heatsinks at all!? The mind boggles.

And then don't even get me started on how some fatmechs are STILL fat ballerinas, while gunboat lights and 35-tonners now turn like a truck loaded down with bricks.

I hear you Fox I really do. I've started to focus on my lights more now though. Picked up a Cougar pack and bought two more Foxes back.

I've been struggling with theis event-not onmy IS account no sire. My Atlas S did the event in five games. Most of my IS kit was murdering stuff very quickly indeed. My clantech though, lord is it inefficient. super long aeon defying burn times=death.
Basically, I'm putting gauss and short duration lasers on everything to try to match IS facetime.
My mrm spammers are just eating what my ATM mechs can do...

Yeah, I've had two battles with bad drop callers ordering pushes recently.

First one someone else on VOIP told the team not to listen to the guy, because he was ordering us to push into a firing line, and instead the team flanked around and killed the enemy team, winning as a result.
If we'd pushed, it would have gone bad for the team.

Second one was on Crimson Strait; enemy is in the platform area, my to the SE. Drop caller orders a push, fails to specify if we should push top or bottom, and team runs into enemy firing lines ready for such a push, and the team is massacred.

Neither drop caller admitted their calls were bad, of course.

Actually, the +15% heat dissipation quirk on the Kit Fox more than compensates for only having 7 engine heatsinks.

Eg, normal mech with 10 engine (double) heatsinks gets 10 x 0.20, or 2.0 heat dissipation per second.
A mech with 7 engine heatsinks and 3 external gets (7 x 0.20) + (3 x 0.15) for 1.85... but the Kit Fox gets that increased by 15% for a total of 2.1275 heat dissipation per second.

The one thing that isn't compensated for is reduced maximum heat capacity, which is 2.0 per engine heatsink, 1.5 per external heatsink.

over 500 pages in this thread, and the core of it boils down to "Other players are acting stupid" (like, not the way i think it would have been wise to act)
but whining about it won't improve anything at all, because those whose behaviour we are whining about probably won't read this thread.

That's not necessarily the point of this thread. It's mostly a place to vent.

How could we have possibly lose this? Because it was just me and that MCII in the cap circle, the whole game. Everyone else was off in a circle-jerk in the city to the side. In the end it was down to an enemy Annihilator with only 2 ERMLs left, that was open CT with both STs and a leg gone with a Hunchback with only some small lasers left, and the Locust on our team who was mostly fresh.

It's more about venting it here where you have others who can sympathise about what you're seeing, than it is about making the potatoes improve. At least this way we won't vent in game where the twits will get butthurt and start reporting like mad.

We know that they're not going to improve. They do, after all, have one cardinal rule:

Haters gonna hate, potatoes gonna potate.

I think I'm about ready to quit for good.

Games are meant for enjoyment, and not stress. The sheer amount of potatoes in game, while tolerable about a month back, seems to have spiked to a point where it's become a 1D20 roll, DC = 15 to get a good team. Over the past few days, I've noted some of the most obscenely stupid play by assaults and heavies; chickening out when they call for pushes, not supporting calls for help in Domination, or nascaring all the way around the bowl in Caustic when a UAV has lit up that they're right on our left flank, and we have a really heavy 400-ton charlie lance.

I can't do this any more. Is it too much to ask for a game when Alpha lance isn't asked to do insane things to ensure a win?!

I got stuck behind a pillar on Grim the other day in a Panther, suicidally trying to get the other team to quit coming, was the only one holding the circle for like 5.5 minutes while my team pretended it was a skirmish. *sigh*

We lost on a timeout even though I'm sure we were up on kills. You should need to touch an objective at least once to even get paid for the match...

Oh no, hell I'd say at least half of my posts alone are more often than not about me being an idiot and a terribad (with most of the rest being about stupid stuff PGI does). That's why I whine: I am no more willing to change my awful habits than I can change those of others. Its therapy. Seriously it amazes me how truly dedicated the players of this game are given some of the imposed, as well as self-inflicted, stupidity of it. Whining is really all we have to deal with it (I will also point out that this thread has become redundant since most of general discussion is a series of whine threads. Used to have to be "constructive" now most are just whines). So whine away, I say! Whine away!

I never said it was you and I'm not dropping any names. I was only venting that was pissed that someone was calling out over a open mic 'Your all garbage, no wonder we lost' and continued to call teammates garbage until the game was done. A few weeks before that someone started laughing and called his team 'whining tards' over and over again.

I'm no saint, I gotten pissed off at teammates and called out LRM boats for hiding behind cover but I never called my entire team garbage or 'tards ether and I know most player poster here are classier than that. Maybe that's my age showing, I grew up playing at arcade when you talked like that face to face looking for a actual fight. The keyboard tough guy routine is just a bunch of bs to me that I rather do without.
