<steps out of the shadows>
I sometimes like to play as a suicide bomber. On such occasions, I measure my fun on how many I dismember and kill while dropping artillery on myself.

Once on Forest Colony in my JM6-S i thought just for shits and giggles i'd walk out into the water then advance straight towards the enemy base firing at anything i saw until i was destroyed.
We lost. But i did get the highest damage and most kills in the match :)

So yeah. my PUG'ing isn't 'superseriousbusiness', it's for fun, my fun. And yes that fun has nothing to do with whether I know what the meta is, or how to build a mech to best fit it. Sorry try again.

Yes but by doing so you can't contribute as much as others or as you could have. That ultimately makes you a bad player/pug/grunt/bads.

It's just that you've already accepted it. :-)

What do you expect when you bring a gimped Mech and that someone pads your shoulders and says "OH He's on a fun build, let's not kill him" - in a
Competitive Online Multiplayer Game

If you're superconfindent with your skills and mechbuild(whatever build) and can yield high k/ds that's a completely different story.

Why do you keep citing your recall 3l as an example of a mech with a low k/d ratio? For a long time, it was the undisputed king of the lights. Even now it's still solid. There is no reason for your 3l to have a k/d less than one.
i guess there has to be people with negative kdrs just because there r people with positive kdrs. I'm glad to say I don't have any negatives not by a long shot. So some r saying skill has nothing to do with kdr. Ok if they could 1vs 1 I bet that the positive kdr guy would take the negative kdr guy 9 times out of ten. U ever play in a premade with guys u normally don't drop with? U know u r set in a higher Elo bracket then them just from talking and such. So u drop in with them u run around and see all your opponents and u say to yourself WTF. What r those guys doing and u yourself didn't feel like u played your best but still single handedly won the match with like 6 kills and 1300 damage. Yeah I think I had a lot of low kdr guys on the other team running around for sure. But these guys can say what they want to make themselfs feel better. I'm done with this topic NEXT.

Aidan Pryde Syndrome = Robert Thurston likes your character, and he isn't a good writer.

Just like

Justin Allard/Victor Davion/Kai Allard-Liao/Any Stackpole created Davion Character syndrome = Michael Stackpole likes you and is a terrible writer of combat scenes.

or

Grey Death Syndrome = You are any member of the Grey Death armed only with an airsoft gun and a water balloon and are facing at least one enemy Battlemech in a story written by William Keith.

KDR is also less dependent of your weight class, it doesn't reflect your chance to succeed with a purple squirrel build. All it says is how many times you were able to outplay the enemy compared to how many times you got outplayed.

Yeah that's exactly what it says, because every time you kill an enemy mech it's because you personally outplayed that enemy mech, because that's totally how this game works...

K/D ratio = killsteals per death.

Still, I like having it be in the positive, but I know it doesn't really mater. Also, damage done just shows how crap of a shot you are, yet people like to post how they did 1000 damage scores.

so getting kills means you're stealing them and doing lots of damage means you are a poor shot... nothing can be done to get lots of kills do high damage and be a skilled player?

I've yet to see any RPG system produce good novels. Not even Shadowrunor D&D.

IMO, a more meaningful stat must be a mixture of :

- Average Damage Done, by a chassis/weapon loadout basis (doing 300 dmg with a light maybe more valuable than with an assault)
- Assists and Bonuses (capping, spotting, tag/narc, etc)
- Components destruction (means you softened ennemy, helping your team)
- Weapon accuracy and damage per shot/weapon (the ability to use your weapons efficiently)
- Focusing fire with teammates (discourage poptart but team coordination)
- Winning alive but heavily damaged (a ratio with your damage done meant you helped your team with a useful sacrifice or not)

Kills are meaningless in a team-based game. A kill point has to be awarded to the player who did the most damage, not the one that put the final shot...

Simply determine match score for each those actions, and display the average score, instead of this stupid KDR.

KDR serves no purpose other than being the one that killed (or stole) most opponents, leading to such absurd behaviors like :
- whole team rushing a AFK/disconnected player
- continue damaging a weaponless mech, ignoring other treats around to get the kill (and often being killed doing that)
- rushing distant and heavily damaged mech, knowing being unable to reach it on time for the kill (and being helpless to our team during that)

Completely quitting the KDR means more teamplay, more valuable actions and better decisions, based more on the teamplay than personal "performance" gain...

Think about it, PGI...
