I gotta say, after pugging this game for months, I have learned one lesson, and a hard-learned lesson it was:

I cannot rely on my teammates for ANYTHING.

And, so, I have come to the inescapable conclusion, that since they have no responsabilities towards me, I have none towards them either.

You can yell at me until you are blue in the face, but that is the reality for those of us that pug.

So in turn, you also refuse to play your part just like the players you so much hate. Making matches worse for everyone on your team and further gimping those who try to play theirs.

I also almost exclusively pug, but I don't usually run my mechs in roles they're not suitable for. Especially when I'm bringing something important like an Assault.

Usually the horrible builds we've seen mentioned in this thread are indicative of inexperience and lack of understanding of mechanics in this game. The "I'll do what I want with my mech" attitude is just a side effect.

I'll have to say all this discussion of morals and responsibilities is IMO out of place.

Not building a mech as per someone else believes it would be optimal doesn't mean you're not playing your part. IMO, if you build your mech to a purpose and play it accordingly, you're playing your part. If one chooses a mech that is bad for the purpose but plays it well, is he really much if any worse than a person who builds a mech great for it's purpose but plays it poorly?

There's not much else to aim for in the game than killing enemies faster than they kill your own team. How you choose to accomplish that is none of my business. I'd expect that to work both ways.

And the sad fact is that you can't count on the PUG team. That doesn't mean that I don't play for the team, I do try to provide my team the opportunity to do the right things. If they do, I'm happy - if they don't, I just have to try and carry a bit harder. Or in some rare cases spectate how the wrong thing they do actually works better than what I'd done. ^_^

I've driven both LRM-boat D-DCs and full meta D-DCs, scored 1000+ damages in both. I mention this only because the only time anyone has bothered to badmouth my build in the ingame chat was in the AC/PPC meta-Atlas. I think that's somehow amusing.

Oh wow.
*slow clap*
Well done. Well done, good sir. You just made the most ridiculous argument I've ever read online.
You sir, win the internet.
Okay, let me explain how things work on planet earth.
The key word in my post was "authority." You see, only the game's developers and admins have the authority to tell me, as a player, what to do. This is their game, they set the rules, they define the boundaries. They also have the authority to punish me if I do not follow their rules.
Players, on the other hand, like you and Tahribator, have ZERO authority to tell others players how to behave. In fact PGI has said on several occasions that no players has the right to tell another how to play.
So, your absurd example of a father skipping out on child support doesn't apply. Nor does your passive agressive attempt to call me names.
A more correct example would be if a family was sitting at home playing monopoly, while some crazed lunatic was banging on their door, telling them that they must line up their money underneath the board, not beside it, and if they fail to do so then they are ignoring their "responsabilities."
So, no.
Thanks for the laugh, but no.
However, you did bait me into coming back and writing out a response, so ultimately this is a case of effective troll being effective.

This looks like more trolling or stupidity! How can people not grasp the fact that certain mechs have roles that they must fulfill. If you want to play a different role, get a different mech! An Atlas is not designed to sit back and lob LRM's. It's perfectly and partially expected to have one hardpoint used for LRMs.

Here is a better example:
I play a medic in Battlefield, I choose not to lay health packs down and play more of an assault role. So I have taken a spot on my team away from an actual assault class that would do the job better.

If you dont understand the concept of what role your mech falls into, then you simply do not understand MWO.

I'm a contrarian by nature, so when I see topics like this where the OP is telling you how to play your game... It only makes me want to do the exact opposite. Mission accomplished, OP.

This is the same crap that happens in games like LoL where you get that one person who wants to play a role but pick a champ/toon that under performs in that role. All it does is hurt the team!

As for this topic, if one wants to play the role of an LRM boat with ECM, the clearly best option is the Atlas D-DC, since there are no other choices. Also, nicely summed the MOBA attitude which I hope never gets prevalent in MWO, since this still is a fun game to play despite some tryhards. ^_^

You missed my example regarding battlefield didnt you....

There is no such thing as a role of LRM boat+ECM. ECM mechs arent a role, that would be like saying BAP mechs are a role. LRM boating is a "support role". An Atlas is not a mech that is designed to stay at the rear of the battle and out of direct fire of the enemy. Why have 600 armor then??

Click your heels together and repeat this phrase 3 times:
"There's no such thing as Atlas LRM boats..."
Maybe they will magically disappear!

Okay folks, settle down. I see miSs hanging out in here, and moderator attention is never a good idea. Getting someone else's thread locked is terribly rude.

Seriously though, Void...why do your threads always attract this kind of garbage? It's like they completely miss the point of the 'Guides and Strategies' part of the G&S forum...

No, I refuse to play the part YOU handed to me. I've found my own role, and my own way to play. It is fun for me, and I like doing it. I'll thank you to keep your nose out of my business.

Yes, I do hate incompotent pug teammates. But, there is something that is worse. Do you know what that is?

Bossy players who tell other people how to play.

So, despite the fact that you don't understand entry-level college general psych, my observation stands.

In reality, most grown-ups have progressed to at least a set of rules governing right and wrong independent of whether or not those rules can be enforced at any given time - if not a set of moral principles which they balance against each other. By repudiating the idea that anyone who does not have the power to inflict pain upon you might still have a valid moral opinion, you make it clear that you are not one of these grown-ups.

Whoa, wait wait wait wait...

wait...

wait...

wait...

Please tell me that you aren't so deluded as to think that between the two of us, YOU are the mature one?

Have you read your own posting history?

I mean, you should be at least familiar with it, since you wrote them, but, by the gods man, if you think that you are the mature one here, then...

I dunno, I can only assume that you are insane. Like, not, "ha ha ha that guy is crazy," but actually clinically diagnosably needs to be medicated-ly insane. Like, I'm actually slightly afraid of you now because you are unstable and dangerous insane.

Your posts are filled with name-calling, trolling, biased accusations, unfounded accumptions. Your default style is confrontentational, inflammatory, derogatory, dismissive...

Oops, I dropped my Thesauras.

Anyway, let me be serious for a moment.

As you said yourself, this is a guide threat. That means YOUR puspose in this thread is to persuade people to consider and adopt your point of view.

YOU HAVE FAILED SPECTACULARLY in that regard. Your posting style is so immature and disrespectful, that NONE of the people you are trying to reach will EVER be persuaded by you.

You have wasted everyone's time

How do I know?

Because at the beginning of this thread, I didn't even play an LRM Atlas.

Yeah, that's right. If you go back and look at my original post, I was commenting on the fact that I do not like being told that I have responsabilities by people with no authority to do so.

So, not only have you failed to convince anybody, you have actually created more LRM Atlasas by your mere existence. I reconfigured mine to try it out, and you know what?

It's a lot more fun than talking to you.

ciao

Well the two trolls in this thread/game obviously dont like being told they are nothing more but a hindrance to their teammates. Since they cant justify their obvious poor game style, they result to trolling and posting random drivel.

Nikkoru

There is no such thing as an "opinion" on roles. They are clear cut for those that understand game mechanics. If you choose not to understand those game mechanics, then no-one can help you.

Nikkoru, settle down.

You've made your point abundantly clear. You don't like Void; okay, cool, whatever. Exit thread, no more need to worry.

You don't like people telling you what to do. Well, we're about one, maybe two more angry reaction spew-posts away from miSs taking action, and I'd prefer for her to not have to do that. She has the authority to tell us all to shut up, and you can't "NUH-UH!" at her. Yes, I understand that you're actively trying to get the thread locked, but ye know what? That crosses over from "I have no responsibilities for anyone else, and they have no responsibilities for me" into active douchewhaleism, and nobody likes a douchewhale.

Some of us agree with the advice on offer in the original post. Matter of fact, if you get this thread locked, I'ma just repost it myself! Because there's sound reasoning and logic in the original post as to why playing an LRM-centric Atlas is a terrible idea which hurts you as much as/more than it hurts your team, and it needs to be out there for people to read.

You want to spit back at the PUGlies who left you to die, fine. Do that, and have whatever twisted, backwards joy of it you can. The rest of us are going to continue to try and improve our ability to make PUGs work and remember that no, not every other player you see beneath a blue triangle is actively and maliciously trying to get their Atlases killed as quickly as possible.

It's nice to see that you are just as much a troll as you accuse me of being.

I agree, but not for the same reason as the OP: The Atlas needs to be a bully, a pusher, a front line mover (or at least a front line stopper in an enemy advance).

It should dictate the movement and flow of battle (obviously with support from friendly mechs, it can't alone do this). It can't do that in the back packing LRMs. If its not doing that then its not being as useful as it could be to the team.

We cant get any where with you. Roles are not opinions, roles for Mechs are set in stone or until the mech changes.

A Atlas is not a support mech. That ends the discussion. I think what also will help you is understanding LRM's are support weapons.

What other games do you play?
