This founders stuff is an obvious money grab.

Lets be honest here, I am a huge btech fan, I ordered IWMetals minis, played megamek, played the boardgame as a kid, begged for a computer to play mw2 and etc.

When I looked into the "mechwarrior 5" team, I found a company that had an extremely mediocre metacritic average, handling mostly generic ports, and mechwarrior 5 actually looked awful. Console aimed, UAVs, distorted looking classic mechs etc.

Reference:
http://www.metacriti...y/piranha-games

They want me to pay 120 dollars for "exclusive" content for a game under strict NDA that is advertised as F2P from an unremarkable company with a mediocre track run. Not only this but once the game is in any way playable, this option will be removed.

This sounds entirely like a money grab, "pay us money based on hype and IP name". Now I understand it's smart to do this, but money grabs like this lead me to believe this will become the norm, "Pay to win, pay for advantages etc". I'm gonna be skipping this game looks like and I just want to warn you all to take off your rose tinted glasses and look at the precedent set by this founders package. This is a "player vs player" game too. Now It's your money, and you can do with it what you want, but I think I just expect more from a developer I want to trust in the least. Loading up a "pay us 120 dollars now or lose out" seems to be milking the die hard fans, instead of making them happy.

Anyway I understand none of you will likely agree in any way with this, but I want some proof the game is in any way a good complete experience before they give a time limited "Jump in now or miss out" offer.

It seems like exploiting the longtime diehard fans enthuisasm rather than delivering anything worthwhile to them. This definitely is a huge negative for me. I never remember paying more than 50 dollars for any other mech game, heck the boardgame box sets costed less, the most I spent was on minis which was optional. What do you all see that I dont?

No offense mate... but you seem butthurt that a company, that's making a F2P game, putting quite literally blood sweat and tears into is... is trying to get a bit of money?

Bro, are you aware that a Lifetime membership to a game like Star Trek Online is $300?[btw, STO is now f2p] They're asking for under half of that for the highest tier founders pack...

You're paying for NO advantage with this... what are you paying for... convience... a 'premium' membership gives you a bonus to C-bill and Experience gain for your pilot. The founders mechs, which are fundimentally the same mechs as the standard[meaning they have the SAME hardpoints and the SAME crit space] as the normal versions of said mechs other than when you play with them, you gain extra c-bills in the match.

THAT IS IT... oh and for the $120 buy, you get a unique little icon for the forums, and your name in the credits of the game. That's pretty damn cool [atleast the last bit, I could care less about the forum icon.]

Basically, look at it this way... you buy the founders pack, you are helping to fund this endevor... you are helping to fund a game, that could very well, be the best damn thing to happen to mechwarrior since Classic Battletech itself AND Mechwarrior 2.

So calm your damn indignity, and consider just what paying this money will mean to Mechwarrior as whole!

Oh also... Metacritic has been horribly wrong before... Then again so has MOST of the industry. Did I also mention Metacritic rates company's with HORRIBLE track records like EA high? Yeah money is TOTALLY not involved there. *note the scarcasm*

Every game has something like this usually they're called as Collector Edition. This is just so good example why I like about F2P games. Hell, even now, some people can play it for free. They just need to balance it right between free and paying customers, and of course those who take CE etc.

Well, most of people here know the devs. They know how to make games and even communicate with the comunity to get better results (look of the Dragon, mechlab system, dropship mode, even the Founder's package itself all came as teh ides of the community). What we see is a good Mechwarrior game. I agree, there's no story about a super-Rambo-Chuck Norris style Davion slaughtering many inn his wake to defend freedom, rather a canon war for teh universe held by the Houses.

The game is one of the best in ways of graphicsm, it tries to (and from the leaks, successfully) to make a balance between the mechs, it doesn't dumb itself down, just to make itself more appealing to CoD fanbase, it tries to build on what MW 2 did and fix the problems it had, rathern than making another MW 4 assault fest with joking story and zero reasons to call it a Battletech game (slightly overexagarated), it gives us an AAA Mechwarrior game not seen in a decade and it gives a chance our beloved franchise may as well become a hit once again.

Several misconception runs to in your first post...

mechwarrior 5 actually looked awful.

The Mechwarrior 3015 only got an in-game engine teaser. And it's looked brilliant. Even on current standard. I miss how the cars are humping in the parking lot when the Warhammer stomp near in the streets.

Console aimed,

I don't understand...???

UAVs,

What's the problem with that? O.o

distorted looking classic mechs etc.

Actually the MW 3015 Atlas, Jenner and Warhammer looked very good in my standards...

They want me to pay 120 dollars for "exclusive" content

They do not want. They provide an opportunity, to give them 120$, for exchange 3 month of premium, 80$ of in-game currency and 4 premium mech.

that is advertised as F2P

And it's an F2P game, ne? You can play free as the game released. I don't see where is problem with that. Yes, you can buy premium, you can buy premium mech's, you can buy in-game currency. If you want. If not, then you still can play for free...

unremarkable company with a mediocre track run.

Do you remember Wargaming? And the World of Tanks? Well, they even had absolutely no track run before the WoT...

Not only this but once the game is in any way playable, this option will be removed.

No, if i understand correctly. You can buy the Founder Package after the Open Beta begin. The Founder Package purchase only diminished after the game released.

"Pay to win, pay for advantages etc".

Well, every F2P games you can pay for advantages, that's how the company make money from it. It's not atom-physics... But "pay-to-win"? Well, we can only say this is true or not, when the game reach at least the open beta status...

Let me get this right? You are complaining because a F2P game asked you to invest in their vision? You don't have to pay, but if you believe in what they are doing then you can (like I have) invest in their vision if you like what you see.

Having a ***** about something you don't have to pay for is like ******** about having to pay for that cool Ferrari cause the capatilistic mongrols want to get paid for the work they do.

Seriously.... you are raging against this?

Yes, There will be tons of stuff to spend you money later as well. With 3050 about to hit not sure how great the mechs will be as well in the big picture. By the time people do learn it will be to late..

Cifu nailed this. You can still play for free on release. You don't have to purchase any of the founder packs to enjoy the same experience as anyone who did purchase a founder pack. Five minutes of research would lead you to this same conclusion so either your trolling or just being a brat. Either way, it reflects badly.

Even if i'm won't agree about the OP, the post like yours hurt more the community than the OP's post.

I'm stil do not know to spend 125$ (or less) for a Founder Pack's, or no, for some reason (debate over some issues, like the postponed faction warfare, and the question when the EU server go online). And believe me, i do not take that money from my mum...

Granted we can not say definitively that the game will be awesome. What we can say is that the Dev's seem to be sticking with the b-tech canon i.e. no clan mech/tech at launch despite some of the most famous mechs being clan mechs(Timberwolf/Madcat). Balance is practically built in with the TT values, with some minor tweaking needed due to the transition from TT to PC. Graphics from what we have seen look pretty darn good. SO while we can not say it will be the greatest game ever, everything so far points towards it being a great game.

If they didn't put you on a clock to milk enthuisiasm instead of delivering a good product

why is it only limited to pre-trying the game.

Hey here is an offer, get in now or you can never get this stuff.

It's obviously to milk the diehards shown in this thread.

I just don't like the mechanism of the offer, it speaks to future offers as well, and the price is extremely high. It's also very "milk the hype now before they can play it" feeling.

I agree though if you think in some way it helps fund development or whatever, I just am portraying my points as to what this looks like. Heres all this stuff for a game that might be good, gotta buy it now though! I have bought CE's before, recently a hundred dollar one, but I had tried beta, seen most of the game mechanics, and was happy with the purchase. With this game it looks more like a "you're that hyped? okay how can we benefit".

Do you react this way every time a company offers preorders and a collector's edition?

It's pretty obvious involving the clans add much complexity to the game, you need more mechs total as you have to offer each faction only IS or clan mechs. Also the balancing, different weapons, and complexity in the actual map would be increased with the addition of the clans. It makes sense to limit things to inner sphere at first tbh. Aren't there only like 12 base mechs anyway? They could never get away with 6 clan and 6 IS mechs.

Nope, I am looking over at a CE I just bought recently.

I am just from an outside perspective seeing this as a cash in on diehards. Every aspect of the deal seems to be designed exactly for that purpose.

The company itself, which is most important when looking into buying a product, not the IP slapped on the cover, has mediocre to terrible history. Coupled with the fact a small minority under strict confidentiality have played it. Then add on the fact there is a diehard btech fanbase.. coupled with this "founders deal" obviously aimed at making you purchase the 120 dollar version and giving you a time limit or you miss out making it extremely tempting, aka "Darn what if the game is actually good and I miss out"
