FF should always be on. In every game. It differentiates fast reflex gaming from more of an tactical approach.

Let me explain, no FF = weapons fire spamming. True, here we have heat/ammo to worry about but trust me, sooner or later somebody will calculate the most effective RoF for a particular build and just spam fire at the enemy.

I don't like having a mouse clicking contest... I want to be able to use the enemy as a shield, offensively and defensively. That requires using your brain not just your index finger.


Griefers? get us some game masters and watch them ban those traitors like they deserve.

Unintentional FF? s h i t happens. For me, it just adds more flavor to the game

FF penalty? full penalty - same as earning coefficient for hits on the enemy, for both XP and C-Bills. Make people think before pulling the trigger. Friendly mech who was damaged should have its total repair bill reduced for the FF damage amount received, no bonus XP should be awarded.

Friendly Fire should be on. Why? Because it teaches people how to play the game and use tactics and teamwork. I can't tell you how many times I've played Battlefield 3 or Gears of War 3 and allies have gotten in my line of fire. It will also prevent kill stealing to an extent!

I've played a LOT of WoT, and the simple truth is, TKing gets a lot of press on the forums but it really just doesn't happen that often. I'd say about 1/2 of 1% of games do I witness a TK on either side.

Please do tell how griefers have an impact on the game when they can't deal damage to team mates.
Sure, they can sulk and be useless, but they don't have the means to destroy, cripple or backstab their team mates.
And yes, if they do, then it is a problem.

It's like you guys try your hardest to keep eyes and ears shut. Getting them killed or banned does not get you rid of a single griefer. Ignoring them is by far the most effective way. Turning FF off before a battle does exactly that and they can't do squat about it.

It would be nice if they put freindly fire % or blue on blue kills in the stats for a player. Then everyone could see if you are a menace or not. Maybe have the possibility of banning people from matches if their % is too high or there are too many friendly kills in the past month.

Yes if you goal is to stop griefers, that's not my goal. My goal is to have a game where one has to actually think rather than just slam the fire button. I and apparently others are willing to deal with the tiny % of griefers to have a better game. I've never had an issue with FF in any game I played. Fear of griefers certainly isn't enough for me to even consider removing FF.

Really glad to see everyone in favor of FF.

Unfortunately this may dissuade the casual masses from getting involved in the game, from a commercial perspective it might make sense to have FF off but have a "hardcore" mode where the real gamers can play with bonuses/penalties.

Sadly, doing so also breeds players who don't think and just spray - which then causes problems when you DO have FF on (and some of us like the randomness of having FF accidents in the game - it happens in RL combat, it (probably) happens in BT (just not covered in the rules), it encourages people to think and to actually check their targets...

In that case you are in for a rude surprise. Plenty WoT players around here that you can ask exactly how many griefers run rampant in that game, just to name one of many. It's really one thing to assume that there are none and a completely different thing to have experience and know that there are more than enough out there to ruin any game if they decide to come in numbers. Yes and this is exactly why an option would be nice. You don't want to suffer that kind of stupidity. Don't shoot your own leg if you can avoid it. Just think a few steps ahead please. It's like walking, you should try it. /sarcasm

FF better be on, and it should be full damage. Half the fun of playing a scout mech, is getting in between the enemy mech, where they take as big chance hitting each other as they so you. This is also a good way to limit the effectiveness of a team with vastly superior artillery support. If they wimp out and do it any less, I will be disappointed. Not sure how they would do penalties for team damage, but I hope that is there also to discouraging people from taking risky chance just so they can get a lucky shot on someone.

As I just posted, the trouble there is that it encourages players to switch off their brains when targetting... not too bad for experienced mechwarriors, but the more mainstream FPS players might not bother to check after a while and suddenly they're wondering why everyone's shouting at them just because they're doing alphas without making sure their lancemates are out the way first.

No kidding, I remember taking some friendly fire in Mechwarrior 4 while I was scoutting in a raven. My poor armor.

Fratricide happens on every battlefiled. It will always be and never go away. That's a fact.

I say put it or leave it in. Damage from enemy, friendly, obsatacle or environment is needed for this to be a simulator.

Why would it dissuade casuals from playing the game? If you are concerned about griefers, that problem can be easily countered by an ignore list / black list function in game - no tweaks to game mechanics are really necessary.

I agree that Friendly Fire is a must for a MechWarrior game, and that this is just another part of the nuanced gameplay we are all looking forward to.

Making FF offenders pay repair bills sounds like a good plan, just make sure there are warnings so newbies know WHY their CBills are going down the drain.

I have a few words of caution. You will NEVER vanquish griefers, not in the real world and certainly not in the digital realm. I think taking away players' mechs for FF goes a step too far in that it might hurt noobies entering the fray for the first few hours. If an inexperienced mech pilot picks a close-range brawler and starts spraying green deathcicles indiscriminately as they try to adjust to the controls of a joystick, I could easily see someone racking up enough debt to lose their first mech. This would be a crippling defeat and would likely turn that newbie (possibly paying newb!) away for good.

As long as you can't lose that last mech, there will always be griefers with fresh accounts and no CBills to bother with.

there should just be an option to identify a griefer and the punishment should be swift, exacting, and costly... there are many ways griefers get their jollys, but FF is the main one... i think we have a respectable community, but there are annoying bad apples in every bunch, and some people's idea of fun is just to wreak havoc

most online games have a system to report and deal with such activities.
