Just changed to OpenDNS, which worked. My ISP is BT.
Your patcher didn't manage to get put on a black list somehow did it?

Correct, and we have thousands of users in game and playing. We were able to see that it's something with Verizon and Virgin nodes; I'm working with them to get a resolution to this issue once and for all.

Also check the Bigpond nodes in Australia, i was able to play for 2 games and when i needed to change settings i was blocked again.... this has me annoyed to hell.

Changing the DNS worked for me (Manchester UK, Virgin Media)

HOWEVER. That is simply unsatisfactory, get this fixed please, I dont want to have to mess around with settings like that to play something that was working yesterday.

I will not be playing until this is fixed. I absolutely refuse to mess with my working settings because this outfit can't get their stuff right.

Sorry, but I will not even consider the above as a 'solution'. I will not change my paid for services from my ISP because of a problem on your end.

This is your end, and you need to fix it.

I've already opened a ticket and receive an equally as ridiculous response and they closed the ticket.

Please make a sensible response and look for a reasonable solution.

thanks,

Well said.

Usual PGI patch Pandemonium.

Doesn't work for me on BT, UK.

I too have this problem and i'm not tech savvy so i'm not fiddling with setting that previously have been fine up until now. Likewise i have no faith that a 'ticket' will fix it. This is the only game i play and will pay a bit for now and then and my PC is pretty much solely a MWO computer so fiddling with things is possible but i still don't see why i should have to.

For Pete's sake PGI when are you going to make a successful patch!

Seems hugely convenient that many players are having trouble simultaneously on patch day and PGI want to blame the ISP Hmmmmmmm.

This was still an issue this morning for me on BT in the UK.

I decided I'd rather not be using a DNS server so far away which could affect services I use, so I opted to put in an entry in my hosts file instead with the result I got back when using nslookup with the google DNS server for the patcher.mwomercs.com host.

This worked (at least at the time) and I was able to launch into a game.

In some ways this a worse solution for most people as it requires you (1) know how to edit the hosts file on your version of windows (or googled it) and (2) it will only work so long as nothing changes with the IP addresses for the Akamai nodes used.

But it won't affect anything else I'm using and if it stops working I can just remove the entry or update it as needed by the same procedure.

So that's what I'll be doing for now and hope the issues with the CDN are fixed soon.

as the saying goes your mileage may vary

google ipv4 seems to be working fine, cheers for the workaround. not as tricky as it sounds, the walkthrough was fairly comprehensive.

While I appreciate the open communication and information on this issue, I don't think that you will find everyone willing to change their DNS settings to play one game. MWO was already just barely beginning to get some enthusiasm going after the clan mech releases, but a lot of players were still on the fence about it. And now this...

I know you guys are not necessarily to blame for this per se, but wow, talk about bad timing. Watch for a lot of lost revenue if you don't get this fixed within the week, cause most people are not going to go through an evenly slightly complex series of corrections, including arguably important ones potentially affecting their overall Net settings, just to play a game that aint exactly the talk of the Net as it is. I have spent hundreds on this game, and even I am considering not playing again until this is fixed. At that rate, how likely do you think it is that even slightly more casual players are going to go into their DNS settings for your game?

Talk of how it's not really so complicated is kind of beside the point. Even if everyone out there was a power user (And believe me, they are not.), we live in an age of plug and play and people expecting commercial projects to just work. The days of installing games from floppies while using DOS commands are long past. They just won't have patience for this kind of thing. I'm afraid this could be pretty bad.
