If you do nothing but snipe you do nothing but irritate people (the enemy AND your team), you don't contribute to the win, and you are a bad person. All snipers should be rapped on the knuckles.
Unless they are a hot sniper chick. In which case they should be spanked. Preferrably while wearing something sexy. Meet me at my house tonight with a bottle of single malt scotch and some scented body oils. Naughty girl snipers...
wait what were we talking about?
You lost me at hot...

You haven't played competitively have you?
MGs are always better than AC2s, especially on lights.

Though kindly don't misrepresent this patch as an attack on snipers. They want sniping to be a viable tactic, however I infer from these changes that they want snipers to specialize at sniping. PPC + AC/Gauss combinations were able to snipe at range while remaining equally effective up close, which put a hurt on anyone who came to the table with shorter-ranged weapons.
While PGI hasn't said, deep in my cold iron heart I nurture some hope that they're trying to give brawling a much needed push.
I can't say I'm outraged. This is going to kill some of my Awesome builds, but I love brawling, I really do. Since the Clans it's just been so very hard to close range with everyone gearing for 700m combat. PPC sniper combinations are not nearly as effective if they can't salvo-fire, so I expect that they'll either have to fight at closer ranges, which makes it easier to start brawls, or they'll change to other sniper loadouts that aren't as effective at close range as current meta builds. Which again gives some openings to brawlers.
Since the Gauss/PPC fire control code is in the engine, part of me also suspects this is a test to see if a PPC adjustment could work before trying a different solution.

Too bad LRMs are totally useless outside of trolling PUGs.
Eh. They work just fine in group queue, but they're second-tier below the usual meta-mode.
A full-on NARC/LRM group can obliterate anything short of the golden combo of heavy ECM + the usual ballistic/PPC hosefest, especially if said ECM isn't allowed to be exposed and NARCd out of the match.

It has as much reason as an AC20 Raven, a 6 PPC Battlemaster.
It may not be viable but it is a fuckton of fun.

That is true.
My 9xERPPC DWF is a helluva lot of fun, but it's not a proper build.
2xAC20 Cicada 2A is another fun build, but it's a joke build. Not something that you would bring into a proper match.

i've run both of those at times.
guess what
they aren't viable
they're fun to troll around in if you're not worried about winning, that's it. That's part of the core problem witht he game in general. The only thing that matters in this game is how much damage you can do and how many kills you can get.
What happens if your team loses? You still win cbills and exp. There is no losing in this game.

Actually, in group play. I'll take that AC 20 raven.
Who doesn't want the best satellite in the game?

Right but the golden combo is pretty much what any team not just goofing off is gonna wanna run anyway. Coordinated LRMs will wreck face but once you're facing off against teams that aren't just faffing about/drunk/both then LRMs get shut down hard. They're just too messy and binary (they either work or they don't and there's no inbetween) to be a weapon I'd intentionally run outside of coordinated trolling groups and in serious competition they're just a complete non-starter assuming the other team has half a brain.
LRMs really need an overhaul.
