I don't think a lot of people followed the NDA, I've seen videos posted on Penny Arcade by beta players who've been rather open about the entire thing. Neo GAF also has this.

So if you're looking for information about the game, it's all over the web.

Or more likely, it's a very small minority of people posting many videos.

Annecdotal evidence of course but.......... Penny Arcade is a major gaming hub, and in the thread for this game there people range from saying "I heard it from a friend" to just flat out stating they are in the beta and posting videos. NeoGAF has been the same.

So on those major gaming forums, nobody seems to have given a rats *** about the NDA. Now on PC gaming forums like HardOCP I haven't seen anybody violate it, so who knows. Then again those guys, like me. have had to deal with NDA's on hardware from major companies that will screw you if you break them.

It's impossible to tell just how rampant it is. It seems to be non existant among the PC only crowd, but the general gaming crowd appears not to have taken it seriously at all.

Let's not forget that this is basically the same group that told the industry to go screw themselves when they refused to let them make a Mechwarrior game unless it was released on multiple consoles as well as PC, and then Microsoft stepped in.

This is the same company that decided to forge ahead, even when the games industry said that Mechwarrior wasn't a viable franchise these days. And were unwilling to take the risk, PGI took it apon themselves to forge forward and find a way to make this work.

So tell me again how this company doesn't deserve our respect at the very least?

Sorry to say but, having Devs Troll their Customer Base is one reason.

Having no clue what the word Marketing means is another.

Using the Mechwarrior Name/Brand to Milk thousands of Fans is yet one more.

Then the fact that they literally try to rip off their customer base by forcing them to buy a Beta Key ?!? (Open Beta yea, but Beta still...) {Edit: Read here, in order to get into Open Beta...}

Ohhh and I almost forgot... They even dont give you a chance to see which way they REALY are heading with World of Mech:Online Mechwarrior:Online before attempting to rip you off...

Need any more reasons than that ?!?

Cmon... Enough with all the BS already...

I would assume that what's going on in the beta is still bound to be buggy and unfinished.
I think that's part of why they have the NDA; some people will base whether they buy a game or not on an unfinished product.

I paid the full package, but I have a much different mentality about it; I'm not paying for goods, I'm donating to the company to make sure this product sees the light of day. Good or bad, I've waited a decade for a new Mechwarrior title to come out. There've been several abortive attempts to make Mechwarrior games in the past, but all that has kept interest in that computer game franchise alive this long are a bunch of fan products. Without Mechwarrior titles in the public eye, Battletech tabletop suffers a hit.

I want this game to be good, so that new players give Battletech P&P a try. As such, I donated what I could to the cause.

This is both my and my fathers view on this

That is Paul alone, and it continues to baffle me that people find this as a bad thing. PGI has remained very transparent through this entire process and I am not sure why a developer making a song about how you are not getting your "freakin madcat" equates to thinking the company is a snake in the grass. :(

May I see your diploma in marketing por favor?
Then I might find your opinion standing on firmer credibility.

Not sure how they are milking us...this isn't an Iphone App scam. This is a real game coming out soon that looks pretty awesome.

Your argument falls flatter through misconception. Pretty sure the Legendary Founders pack is providing you 4 mechs that contain experience and cbill boosters to start is a good deal. No one is forcing you to buy the Beta Key...unless someone has a gun to your head at this instance, in which case type "HELP" and we will notify the authorities. And August 7th is not the Open Beta/Launch. That is just the date that you will be allowed early access to the game aka Closed Beta 2.

Pretty sure we get weekly screenshots, biweekly mech releases, 6 very lengthy developer interviews with Q&A's, an Ask the Devs feature, IRC chats with developers, and the fact the developers will regularly post on the forums and talk to you in the IRC chat rooms.

Need any more reasons than that ?!?

Not sure if I saw a single reason in that entire post. Please come back with further clarification along with support for your opinions that cannot be discredited by going to the main forum page.

EDIT: Oh I forgot to mention that, after the massive forum crash and system errors the morning the founders package was available for purchase, the president of PGI hopped on the forums within an hour and opened a thread where he addressed problems/questions/errors on an individual basis.

Can't tell you how many times I have had to sit on hold with customer support for games when something goes wrong with one of my accounts...

EDIT 2: If you would prefer, I can find on-site sources for all of my points that I would be willing to provide to you if it would make your forum stay more pleasant, or improve your personal feelings towards PGI.

There are many of us trying to decide if we should buy the game and if so which package should we preorder. It is almost impossible to make this decision without data, and sadly, for this game there is too little meaningful data to base that decision on.

Yes, we can watch videos and read transcripts of devs saying the same cliche's and catchphrases over and over. We can wade through these forums and read the wild speculation based on 'faith' and 'feelings' which are not even useless. What we need is frank, honest opinions of the game from people who have played it.

There is a major title in beta now that will release at roughly the same time as this game: Guild Wars 2. That game is probably farther from release than this one and yet they have lowered their NDA. And as a result I have preordered that game.

MWo Devs please lower the NDA. I want to preorder your game, I really do; but I have been burned so many times by game devs lies that I just can't do it. I need more data.

Be faithful? Really?

I'm sorry but this position strikes me as extremely naive. With debacles like Anarchy Online, SWG, Battlecruiser, Diablo 3, Star Trek Online, Champions Online and a host of other failed or lacking titles how can you say this? We have examples ad nauseum of game devs lying to people to bump-up sales and then pulling the old 'bait and switch' once the game goes retail.

I have no use for faith. Faith is the acceptance of a fact or position in contravention of the evidence. I use data, logic and reason, not faith. In other words, I don't make crap up.

Keep the NDA indefinitely just for this guy.

Wait just like me and thousands of others and play another game. BTW there is no preorder for this game, and the next big wave of Beta keys is suppossedly coming out July 10th. Keep your fingers crossed, and see you on the field soon

He wasn't trolling - nobody forced me to buy the Founders pack I did - I could have waited a month or two longer until the open beta was opened up to everyone - the Founders only get early access, not ONLY access.

Likewise with me - MW4 I considered inferior in "feel" - I'm hoping that this will rekindle my love for the MW "series". :(

NDAs are for protecting company secrets... per say. I have had several NDAs with the company's that make (Classic) BattleTech. They stopped me from discussing upcoming events or any rules I was playtesting. While playtesting HeavyMetal Programs I could not talk about the bells and whistles the program was going to have. I did however get permission to display Pre published Warship record sheets at a local Convention. No, NDAs are there to protect the integrity of the game, the company's invested work, and the like.

I have to admit - I kinda find Paul's trolling funny - even though sometimes it does make me want to leg-and-limb his mech a few times, it's still funny.

You quoted the wrong post there buddy, the one two posts above the one that you quoted was actually trolling. Oh wait, that was you hurr hurr.

To make it clear, it's not OPEN beta. It's the last phase off the closed beta the founders have guaranteed access to. Don't care for that? Don't buy a founders pack.

Well I don't care. Keep believing the OPTION the devs gave us to show our faith in them is something they are FORCING upon us. Just don't come crying that once you decide you like the game to have the same goodies the founders got for the same price as they paid for them. Although I guess you'll just complain about devs ripping you off again, for a limited deal not being available at that time anymore.

One last point, nothing in life is free. Not f2p, not welfare, not government hand outs, even winning the lottery is not free.
Someone always pays. If you don't want to pay just remember, someone else is on your behalf.

His trolling is hilarious and aggravating, yet I feel confident saying none of it has negatively impacted someones ability to play the game or enjoy the pre-open beta process.

Though from what I hear he is a pretty damn good pilot, so good luck trying to leg him :(

True - I usually prefer it if an advertiser picks up part of the tab though... I don't mind looking at adverts in-game, if it helps to pay the bills - especially if you can blow up any hoardings you don't like. :(
