I didn't have too many matches where I got multiples of 140 ( a few 280+ and my best over 500).
Anyway, figured that would be a good idea, not sure though.

Sadly, I don't think I'll be able to participate in this one; I have too much RL stuff to do and not enough time to grind my life away in hopes that I'll get a free Warhorn.
Edit: Realized that I misread the score formula.

Still, 60 matches with a 140 score is a lot. Even after reviewing the scoring formula and recognizing that I could probably get the 60 matches, I just don't have the time! This contest would probably be best labeled "Tons of Grind" or "Tones of Time" instead.

I think its a good idea. The whole point of the event is For Science! regarding weight drops, so it would make sense to reward players for having played more, rather than rewarding them for excellent matches. I've given up because its just taking too long and the losses, especially the ones where I'm just shy of 140, is quite frustrating.
Edit: Just added all of my scores, if we did it like that, I'd have 55 out of 60 necessary to get all of them, rather than 23 out of 60. As it stands, I don't even know if I'll play MWO today, let alone group queue. I'd drop past the five more points necessary in group queue as well, to help other people reach that score themselves.

The weight felt restrictive, and slowed down drops while people did math at times. Playing assaults was generally unwelcome, particularly the 100 tonnes.
Games in general were faster moving because, well, most people were faster, and there were some great games though.
I think you need a total tonnage marker in the group queue next to the Light/Medium/Heavy/Assault (there's plenty of room, its so small). Would be nice to know anyway.
Also, rewards are ok, but not enough to get lots of people excited. That's fine, it's nice to have an off weekend, not every event needs to be epic. But it would be nice to have an event like this go for an entire week rather than just the weekend.
With the rewards... just putting 3 days of free premium to be activated over the weekend in the first tier would have been a reasonable way of getting people interest. I'm struggling as it is to want to play it due to the amount of time spent just managing mechs. Having the second tier being a mechbay would have been better. Cockpit items are not worth aiming for really... at least with the current scoring as constituted. The 3rd tier.. I don't know what you could have put there outside of a cockpit item (a trio of cockpit items at that point would've been OK)... but the rewards are disappointing.
The bigger problems though is that rather then trying to grind out the Ice Ferret that I've originally intended, going ECM Spider just to weather the storm of the LRM effects is far more productive at this point in time. It would've been nicer if kills were made 15 points and the damage formula would give a point for every 10 points instead of 15. Right now, it's just a PITA to play the matches.

Not quite to tier 2 yet (31 qualified in 58 matches so far) and hoping I have time to complete it at least. Do not think I will be getting to tier 3 since I really do not have the time to play much tonight or tomorrow. First red X since I started playing but it was bound to happen sooner or later.
Rough grind this time, the tonnage restrictions and scoring made for a bit more of a challenge than I expected to be honest. It clearly was favoring the lights who want to run tag/ narc/ spot. They could clean up on scoring (even on a loss) but unfortunately that is not really my play style. Grinding it out making kills/ assist/ dmg was much less favorable in scoring.
I know the idea is to not weight kills in such a way that it causes it to be only about kills but it would have been nice to put them on par with assist or other things. For instance killing 3-6 mechs, some assist, and do nice dmg... you just are only a small amount past the 140. Had a number of matches not qualify where I would get 2-3 kills and nice dmg but not enough assist cause I had to focus targets immediately in front of me as priority. Bummed to see scores after a number of these matches fall just shy of 140.
Anyways that is my thoughts on it so far.

I can't even pretend to want to try this when I need to "qualify" in at least 20 matches to just end up with a MWO coffee cup? LOL
The Halloween event was fun because we could possibly qualify in every match. And we had a chance to get XP, C-Bill and things like weapons and so on. In fact, I won this very MWO coffee cup by qualifying in 1 match in that event. Now I have to qualify 20 times to get the same cup?
Sorry guys... I don't think this weekends turnout will be as good as the Halloween event. Even if it is for "Science".
Dear PGI.
This particular tourney is, well, complete B.S..
It is actually DIFFICULT to achieve a match score of 140. I know I suck at this game...and I am sure others are in the same boat as myself. I achieved said score once out 6 matches before I stopped playing for the night.
Think about that for a moment. 1 whole whopping point towards the 20 point goal and it took me ohhh about 2 hours or more to achieve. That is a serious amount of grinding for a measly cockpit item.
Lower the score required.
Give out better rewards for all the GRINDING and hard work the players have to put forth in order to accomplish this tournament.
Please.

since AUS was built upon the foundation of a giant prison, maybe all of the "yanks" should start calling y'all criminals...
No I will not insult others because they insult me... but, I will ask that some decorum be used here.
Back to the challenge, I was only able to get 7 matches in last night and of those4 were qualifying. I was running with a fairly large Unit and we decided to run smaller groups, the 12 man q was taking immense amounts of time for us to drop in, and when we went smaller, it wasn't much better... both formats saw even the larger well known units doing nothing but lrmfesting the game... again...
To those who say this is an easy challenge, enjoy, for the hamster is crap, they damned near gave the mug away for free last week, and the lame "warhorns" are one of the dumbest ideas ever brought into this game.
To even refer to this as a challenge is wrong, it should be labelled a fruitless endeavor designed to anger the masses and the large portion of our paying customers, and PGI wants to thank you for it.
Not enjoyable, not in the least, not when many of the Unit members flat stated no one they knew could get the challenge without loading up the nastiest lrm mech you possibly could... That is the only way I have seen anyone get the points....
Exactly
whaaat? maybe you are doing anything wrong? I rarely even see lms' the previous challanges borught way more lrm's on the table. I had many of matches where UAV's above caustic were repsonded with 0 lrm fire. because no one from those players even had some.

Also, every match should count since only about 50-65% will qualify at 140 points. That's 100+ games for the average player...
sense of the challange is to make it challanging, the average palyer wil then probably only get a beer or a hamster. the warhorn is only for the more dedicated or good gamers.

I also saw packs of LRMs every single match. For grinding (assists/damage) they're a good choice, especially if you've got a good LRM spotter. The problem of course is that LRMs are not fun to play with or against for a lot of people so it leaves that sour taste at the end.
Just flat out wasn't worth it. Wasn't fun for me, actually put me off group queue for a while. Not sure of a way to fix it; maybe just have a cumulative point total? The whole 'x points or the match is worthless' in a group queue environment especially turns it into 'huh. This match is a 100% waste of time but we need to just sorta hang out until it's over. Then again, could just run in and die in a hail of fire and move on to the next match and do that until odds play out that I get 60 matches with 140 pts... one of those options will get me 60 pts by Monday, one of them won't.'
That's not how I want to think about playing a game, so I blew the contest off.
Sorry, this ones going to be a red X for me, a bad taste in the mouth and an absence of motivation to play in general.

I have a feeling that we could get closer games for asymmetrical group matches if larger groups had to select dropdecks with lower tonnage/player than smaller groups did.
