I predict PGI will use the lackluster reception to the Javelin as an excuse to not add more light mechs.

This is just a Spider with missile hard points.
A couple of options are slightly better spiders.
The Hero has a really stupid name.
I was so looking forward to it, and it is at least $15 which is something.....
But yeah - this isn't going to inspire great sales is it.

I don't have any particular nostalgia factor to build me up for disappointment, though truthfully I was hoping for the Valkyrie.
I'm good with this though

Javelin 30T
10N - Max Engine 285, 8 JJ, 4M (LT+RT), 2AMS
10F - Max Engine 285, 8 JJ, 4E (LT+RT), 2AMS
10P - Max Engine 255, 6 JJ, 6M (LT+RT), 1AMS (CT)
11A - Max Engine 255, 6 JJ, 7E (LT+RT+RA), 1AMS (CT)
11B - Max Engine 255, 4M (LT+RT), ECM (LT), 1AMS (CT)
HT!10P - Max Engine 255, 6 JJ, 4E (LA+RA), 2M (LT+RT), 1AMS (CT)
Probably pretty solid.
I will likely buy it... even if I'm entirely unbothered by it, it's a new Light should be fun to pilot (I mean, I do like my Spiders) and if it doesn't do well, we may have to wait another 18 months for another light mech.

I will never pilot the thing, but I'm still tempted to buy the $15 pack (yes, $15, not $20!!) to support the cause of PGI selling light mechs.

Like you I am a little mixed on it, I want to reward them for making a light mech, but I don't want to reward them for making a sh*t light mech....

It isn't a **** light mech, though. Moves at a pretty standard clip for IS lights that don't start with Lo and end in Cust. Has ECM options. Can pack a nasty salvo of SRMs (one can fit 6x SRM2), or 7 SPLas. Jump jets. Humanoid 30 ton mech should put it around ACH size, too, though it looks like they put the Jav on weight watchers, because formerly it was pudgy, which would have helped with volumetric scaling.
Solid, solid mech.

To me, it looks like she is going to have hit boxes than can be isolated rather quickly and be rendered dead or combat ineffective in short order. She is likely going to be Spider sized too....

Eh. A slightly tall but pencil thin mech moving 160 (which it can manage) is not going to be so easy to isolate parts off of, however. It's certainly no Adder or Raven. I expect some people whining about its scaling, of course, but I also expect it could threaten the Oxide's spot in the hierarchy of "hated lights."

On the other hand, I was really expecting something with more nostalgia factor (Wasp) to encourage sales for the last single-mech pack, under the current sales scheme. *shrugs* Maybe it'll work out and I'll be able to get a Wasp and Mongoose under more agreeable pack systems.
Regardless, personally I'm waiting until after I see the first few patches of the year before I consider any more purchases. However, if PGI does in fact pull their head from their keister (fix my Flamers and have a good Skill Tree release) then I'll be more than happy to invest in the Javelin.

Erm... I mean, the Javelin!

Problem with this is that I think at the current time there's only the Prime variant with 2 SRM6s, and one with 1 SRM6 and 4 Med Lasers (and we've already got the Jenner). Another one comes out in the next year or so that has an SRM6 and 2 Streak SRM2s. I'd still like the prime variant though to give it a couple of LRM5s and make a light support mech.
One of the first posters in this thread. Wherever you are buddy, here comes the Javelin (only almost 5 years later).

(Specially if they will be horrible to hit any target - imagine a SRM firing at 450m)
Well it would validate the penalties mrms have IMO to stream fire out of 5/10/15/20 tubes x2 for appropriate size.

We came this far without it (and I worship PGI for that) and I hope we will continue that way.
Heavy Gauss is meant to be a huge weapon - only a STD engine side torso can take it. This alone is a big limiting factor. So, no Heavy Gauss in the King Crab. It will be the primary weapon in any mech, and not many mechs will be able to bring 2 of them.
I love the Fafnir, and fully expect it to feature in MWO soon. I hope Alex Iglesias can do the miracle of making it viable (not huge torsos' hitboxes) but keeping the classic look. (which is really impressive, IMHO)
Hunchback/a 50 ton with a torso ballistic can handle endo/9.5 Light ferro, 4tons HGR with a std 200 2ER med 1 er small with a tiny bit more armor. Actually not too bad for a t1-mwo upgrade.
Speed is the weak point but.... 50tons with a short range bazooka :3

If you're only getting that much with an LFE, you are doing it wrong.
With a STD250 (yes, really), you can fit AC20, 4.5 tons of ammo, 2MLs and 10 DHS.
Crank it upto 11! LFE275 should be ez pz.

I would actually get back into my 4G instead of 4P peek-poke if that happened. Even uber-quirked AC20 at 350m cannot do as well as 2AC5 loadout in solo q. (well, I would feel differently if we had maps like old Frozen, old Forest instead of Polar/Grim/Frozen/Alpine/Polar...)
I would not be disturbed by 70 kph speed because I pilot assaults, and a big punch will put a big grin on my face anyway.

I did say I was using 12 DHS, so 2 extra tons spent on Heat Sinking.... It could've given an extra pair of MLas or extra ammo.
As for one that I've actually used on TT:
That mech in the spoilers was a rather good killer in city fights.
As for using a 275, I use actual engine rules, not PGI's made up rules... meaning I have to use mech weight*walking speed for engine sizes... so for a 50t mech I get to use 50,100, 150, 200, 250 or 300 series engines when building mechs in a TT program
