Well, the Hollander is a humanoid 35 ton Mech and those are not small by any means in MWO thanks to volumetric scaling. Mounting a gauss rifle furthermore requires a rather small engine, resulting in a speed range typically found on medium and even some heavy Mechs (80-90 kph).

Here is how the Hollander would be, optimized (but without backup weapons). Is it good? Not without big quirks.

Anyway, I'm not here to make a case for the Hollander: there are at least two other IS lights I want to see first, the Wasp and the Raptor.

This build has only 8 heatsinks. You need 10. And, no, it is nowhere near good for reasons outlined above.

Ooops! Slower engine, then (and -0.5 ammo).

It's definitely not good.

Not suprised, Will be intteresting to see what they do for the load outs though... several of them pack C3 (well three of the four official variants are listed as such)... also thumbs up for a canonical hero mech too!

THS-4S Thanatos Felix
  • This is a uniquely customized Thanatos that was created by lone Mercenary MechWarrior Felix Grimstead on Swartklip. After expending his MRM ammunition, Felix, with the aid of local Militia techs, had his 'Mech refitted with nine Rocket Launcher/10 Launchers in the right arm. He also had a salvaged Medium Pulse Laser placed into the 'Mech's center torso.

On a side note, this could give PGI a chance to test the waters on an ISOmni, as the Thanatos was first meant to be an Omni...

It was initially meant to be an Omni, but the lore pretty explicitly points out that the designers had to improvise it into a Battlemech later.

I know, we more or less said the same thing, in slightly different ways. It also doesn't change the fact that PGI is likely going to invent at least two variants, might as well make them Omni's just to see how the playerbase reacts to them... As it could give PGI good information about how the players would take to other IS Omni's.

Two variants aren't enough to really justify the pod-swapping mechanic.

Then let them do three or four omni versions.

I can already tell that we are not going to get the THS-4T variant, as she uses an LB-20X in the LA... So we might get a THS-4TT that uses a UAC/20 in place... also that would be a good way to cover up the extra ton from lack of C3 slave.

I think the THS-6S will likely be problematic as well, since she has at least 12t tied up in improved JJ;s...

Likely is a THS-6SS that uses 4 normal 1t JJ's, no C3 slave, an extra two ERML with Artemis slapped onto the triple LRM/5's

Says the made up PGI variants of the Thanatos like the THS-4P, THS-5P, THS-5S, and THS-5T. Oh well, it could have been at least something cool like the Toyama if they were going to spam non-lore variants. Drink!

Never said those were appreciated. just not reason enough to go even further off the reservation. Plus thanks, but last damn thing I want is a LOCKED IS XL on those STs.

That is just common sense. Sorry to rain on your parade.

Nah that wasn't directed towards you Bishop. Those variants are straight from the horses mouth (of PGI). Which I think back on it, maybe it would have been smarter for PGI to wait on the Marauder IIC until the civil war tech. At least we would have had one more civil war era tech variant for it. And yes, I'll pass on locked IS XL engines as well.

The lore explicitely points out that the designers of the Thanatos were told an OmniMech would not be bought by the AFFC and LAAF, i.e. the target market. That's why they switched, despite having a prototype "ready for trials". Also license agreements ran out.

The OmniMech prototype is, at the very least, as valid as PGI made variants. Imo, it is more valid for being actually from the lore, unlike the PGI-variants.

Whether or not it would have been viable in MWO is another discussion, but if it got the Annihiliator treatment concerning quirks I would not see much of a problem. ...and considering people want the Avatar - another fixed XL engine Mech with easily shot ST and a much lower speed - I am not sure how much sense such a discussion makes. It is a missed opportunity either way.

I will just add to this with

You're complaining about a company, licensed to create Battletech lore and units, is creating Battletech lore and units.

When Battletech has had official canon made by no less than 6 sources at this point, plus half a dozen to a dozen more semi-official sources, and several other commonly accepted almost canon sources.

Hell, people make up their own Canon as it suits them in campaigns. We have several non-canon mechs, battle armors, and vehicles in our campaign on my end.
