After the debacle called Uziel one might want to reconsider if the "has been in MW:4"-criterion is really all that matters...

Sure it does, at least with a vocal group here. On the battlefields of MWO however the grim reality of poor hitboxes and at best average hardpoints makes the Uziel a second rate choice, as expected. Without Annihilator-level quirks to save it, it has all but vanished - MW:4 or not.

This will be the fate of every Mech that has nothing going for it except the nostalgia for a 17 year old non-canon video game and the irrational hope for quirks.

Demi - Precentor Karl proudly presents the Crusader Legacy Package (the C3i was replaced with a heavier engine and a BAP)

because Crusader = HG - but Legacy is not
The Legacy also uses the same chassis as the Grand Crusader II - well you get it don't you?

Except for nostalgia, what's left for us? The endless pursue of meta? Powercreep?

I'm sorry, but I prefer to see mediocre (but very well known) designs on the battlefield than totally obscure meta-mechs (that would make the classics irrelevant).

Only a small portion of this game base is competitive, anyway. While most die-hard costumers played MW2, MW3 and/or MW4. Which crowd do you think PGI will prioritize?

I'd target the the MW2 and MW3 groups, likely to have higher disposable income.

not power creep - but don't you think one things that made the mechwarrior series great was the ability to have different mechs you didn't have piloted yet.
The MW2 gave you Clans the MW2 GBL gave you Kodiak and Hatamoto Chi (Mercs added Mauler and IS designs if you did not know them from before)
MW3 - IS Omnis, Annihilator or Bushwacker
MW4 - Uziel, Hellspawn etc.

but MWO - MWO only brought mechs already known - with some prominent exceptions - Nightstar, Huntsman, Night Gyr

Eh I feel like it's a good thing to target nostalgia but also add some that haven't seen light of day in the video games, as long as they are considered well used chassis and important to the battletech universe.

Ironically, Night Gyr and Huntsman are doing quite well in MWO, and I doubt the Nightstar will be a failure (in terms of sales and gameplay).

...which is something I can easily agree too. It is just that the Civil War-era of MWO is dominated by the video game Mechs, and I think it is time for a little diversity, especially if we are talking about an important Mech in the lore.
If the only good thing that can be said about a Mech is "it was in MW:4", perhaps one should look for another Mech - at least once in a while.

You sound as if meta-meching was the one and only alternative to MW:4-pandering.

Nostalgia does not stem from MW:4 exclusively. There is BattleTech in its entirety, and it is a vast source. Furthermore nostalgia is purely subjective. I played MW:4 too and I liked it; and I have zero interest in MWO becoming MW:4-reloaded.
Performance on the other hand is a far more objective criterion than nostalgia, and while it should not be the only one(nobody ever said that), it should not be forgotten or ignored.

Performance and nostalgia go hand in hand. But if you ignore performance, and reduce nostalgia to a 17 year old video game... than you get what is called the Uziel.

OMG - MW4 is 17years old already? Can't be possible - I'm not that old....

Shiny's stuff is great, but that thing has nowhere near enough thigh gap to become an MWO mech.... :P

There are many mechs in MWO that you never piloted in a video game, like: Cataphract, Spider, Highlander, Blackjack, Kintaro, Thunderbolt, Griffin, Wolverine, Firestarter, Banshee, Mist Lynx, Enforcer, Grasshopper, King Crab, Hunchback IIC, Orion IIC, Highlander IIC, Archer, Viper and so on...

I think they are doing a great job in the mech selection, picking the most classic TT designs (with the Wasp and Crusader still missing), the most common IS and Clan chassis and some less known, but very cool mechs.

Also, this game adds approximately 1 new mech each month, so if MWO keeps fully active for more 2 or 3 years, we are still getting 24-36 new chassis. There will be a lot of mechs in this game - plenty for all tastes. :)

Firemoth, Rifleman IIC, Warhammer IIC, Stone Rhino and (maybe) Avatar are likely to be included, but the others? Not so much. MW2:M featured a lot of light/medium mechs no one liked. BTW, you can check this poll for the most popular/wanted mechs.

Assuming the next annoucement will be a Clan Mech for December (my money is on the Piranha), the Mech after that will likely an IS Mech and it will be released in 2018. Perhaps that is the year of the IS OmniMech. PGI said IS Omnis are likely to come, just not in 2017.

Although IS Omnis may not be the Mechs-to-end-all-Mechs in terms of meta, they present a genuinely fresh element. And it is not like all are as bad as the Strider or the Avatar. Some are workable (Hauptmann, Templar), some might be good (Black Hawk-KU, Raptor), and some are downright meta (Men Shen).

If it is not an IS Omni, the 85t slot seems to be the best choice, since it has not been updated for ages. (Unfortunately, light Mechs don't seem to sell well, otherwise 20 and 25 tons deserved an update). I wish for the Gunslinger, but I'd guess PGI goes with the more popular Longbow. We really need more LRM assaults, right?

What makes you think it will be a Clan mech in December? We got the Thanatos for August, so we will have a guaranteed clan mech for September. So assuming that we are following the pattern of alternating sides, the mech in December will be a guaranteed IS again like last year (We had the Roughneck as the grand announcement). My prediction is that it will be the Fafnir. My other predictions is that those two clan mech slots will be filled by the Blood Asp and Piranha, unless we get official word from the next town hall from Russ regarding the whole unseen issue.

I wish that we really were not back on the one mech a month ordeal since my interests in IS\Clan mechs that are outside of the unseen spectrum are extremely limited. The only thing that I might be interested in is the Toyama and the Firemoth, but even so PGI will really have to sell me on the Toyama since it's going to be variant deprived. On top of that we just got an IS mech that has a Guardian ECM Suite on every variant, in the same weight class as the Toyama so the mech itself is highly unlikely now.

The Clan mech will be RELEASED in December, not announced. Just like the Thanatos will be released in November.

Yep, Blood Asp and Piranha next Clanners - we just don't know in which order (hoping for the 20 tonner first).

I'd expect the Blood Asp to be quite a bit later, like after the Piranha and then another IS mech, THEN the Blood Asp... but I'm secretly hoping for the Turkina before the Blood Asp just because though.
