I have no idea, because they have nothing similar. :P

Except maybe the lower legs?

And the right arm stance.

Are we allowed to use U/AC5 chain macros anymore?

Macros are not forbidden, as far as I know.

We know the Archer is coming... But there's an issue with the hero mech. There are two perfect hero pilots, Jaimie Wolf & Morgan Kell. Who's it gonna be? I'd love it if they gave us both but idk how likely that is.

Morgan "MoFo" Kell, is the only right answer.

Yeah, as I said, we get the archer because morgan kell appears in the new battletech game and he will drive his "phantom-mech" heromech. Just my theory...

Correct me if i am wrong bishop, but for me was the phantom phenomenon an individual skill level of morgan kell. So maybe no ecm for an hero...

Yeah it was a mystical skill learned accidentally by Morgan Kell, that Yorinaga Kurita then taught himself over a decades exile and meditation, and that Patrick Kell tapped into shortly before his own death.

No tech involved, just plot armor mumbo jumbo. So no reason our "Fan Jersey" Hero Mechs would have ECM.

Pirate's Bane got ECM (with absolutely no connection with the lore), so Morgan's hero will have it, of course.

This is the chance for PGI/Catalist to retcon the mystic mambo-jumbo. Morgan Kell didn't use the Force, he just had the proper equipment (ECM and maybe something more, like a Null Signature System).

(Not that the Null Signature will ever feature in MWO...)

While a technical solution (e.g. a Star League era Guardian suite or NSS) would be preferable to using "The Force" as an explanation for PMA, it would necessarily entail confirming that the Kells' and Yorinaga Kurita's mechanics were simultaneously so incompetent as to not notice the unusual multi-ton, relatively bulky pieces of equipment that are obviously not standard features of those BattleMechs (Morgan Kell's Archer, Patrick Kell's Victor, and Yorinaga Kurita's Warhammer) AND so gifted as to be able to maintain and repair those same pieces of equipment (which would/should have gotten them targeted for assassination by ComStar)... True.

I actually "get" where Stackpole was going with this though. IN war, you always here of "strange things" happening, especially, apparently, WWII, where people swear a dead friend guided them, or a dying guy turned bullet proof long enough to carry a bomb into an enemy bunker, and weirder...so Stackpole seemed to be trying to tap that vein.

It might have worked as a one off, too. Sadly, as a central cog to a primary series, it leaves some unsightly baggage. NOt quite as bad (IMO) as the sentient birdmen of Far Country, (and the equally twilight zone passage to arrive there) but it is an issue.

BTW, the Archer pack should be officially announced by the end of the week, according to Russ' Twitter.

I think we will let Origins be the main focus for a few days then release the purchase page for the Archer later this week.

On Morgan's/Yorinaga's/Patricks's use of "the Force"....

I prefer there to be a mechanical explanation to it. I'm perfectly happy with it being ECM or Null Sig (or both). The question of their tech's competence... Well, this is a world where tech and knowledge of that tech slid so far backwards who knows. Maybe their techs did know about it, but wasn't sure if it worked or how it worked so kept quiet. Maybe they are masters in their field, but the equivalent to a lube tech working on a semi-truck.

I used to be a mechanic for Honda Automobiles. I was a master tech and was next in line to get my own team. There were times I didn't learn about new stuff until it was sitting broke in my bay. Luckily I had manuals to refer to. Imagine the kid changing the oil suddenly being responsible for rebuilding the engine. Don't balk, it happens....

As for they not knowing themselves.... I had people who bought their car, are professionals in their fields, drive it every day, get towed in because they ran out of gas and they professed to not knowing how to put gas in it....

Could have just been an excuse, BUT saying one forgot is a lot better than saying one didn't know how.

If it was just Morgan's Archer, that might be plausible. But that also implies that Yorinaga's decade in exile..... His meditations led him to what.... Figuring out where Morgan's lostech trove was? Had a Tesla epiphany, and figured out how to re-engineer ECM and Null Sig..... Then while under intense ISF scrutiny procured or built, then maintained lostech in secret?

Then at some point.... The Kell Hounds jury rigged the same tech onto Arden Sortek's Victor (and in record time for their improvised rescue, while on the run from kurita forces).... Then removed all traces before returning it to Davion hands?

This high-tech equipment could be a well kept secret in their mechs. Maybe the technicians know, but they are too loyal to their commanders to tell others about it.

The whole problem IMHO about these incidents is because they would be perfectly fine as legends or exaggerated stories told by a character. But in the book they are described directly by an unbiased narrator, so you are forced to believe that yes, the Kells and Yorinaga had special powers. I'm looking forward for what the Catalyst writer will figure out. Considering his elegant solution about the Noton's Rifleman/Rifleman II question, it looks promising.

I never said it was perfect. I just prefer a tech explanation over "the force" in Battletech,

And...it could simply be not addressed at all... since it really doesn't matter for our fan "one offs" to begin with.

Just because we can buy a clone of the Black Widow's Warhammer doesn't mean we ARE the Black Widow. Morgan can have his plot armor and not have it have any effect on us at all.... since it was tied to the individuals, not the mechs.

Was ECM at this time in battletech introduced and was it already used in the inner sphere? i recognised not much use of ECM in the books at this point in the timeline. I thought the cappelans used it first.

ECM as we know it, was lostech at this time. There was a 4-5 ton ECM unit on early Ravens but it was not nearly as effective as the SLDF era Guardian ECM we have in game now.
