Lets talk about the Turkina...
Posted Image
95 tons
3 locked jumpjets
No FF or ES (like the Dire Wolf)
52.2 km/h (speed of the Dire Wolf)
42 pod space with armor maxed (8.5 less than the Dire Wolf, 10 more than the Warhawk)
5 criticals locked in each side torso (2 DHS + 1 jumpjet)
Flat-out profile, like the King Crab

Omnipods:

Turkina Prime
LA 2b
LT 1m
CT
H
RT 1m
RA 2e

Turkina A
LA 1b
LT 1m
CT
H
RT 1m
RA 1b

Turkina B
LA 2e
LT 1e
CT 1e
H 1e
RT 1e
RA 2e

Turkina C
LA 1b
LT 3e
CT
H
RT 1m, 2b, 1e
RA 2e

Conclusion: very slow, can carry a lot of guns... it´s like a Dire Wolf S shaped into a King Crab.

There are a bunch of new variants I'd like to see. The Cataphract 3L couldn't be worse off than the Wolverine 7D, could it?

So, for fill-in-the-variants-on-chassis-we-already-have purposes, my pipedream variant with the available tech is the GRF1-DS. It's basically a GRF-3M with an LPL instead of the ERPPC.

Yes, I'm irrationally fond of Griffins, they were the first mech I mastered, and remain the chassis with the most "seat time" in solo/group PUGs. I'd also love to see a Griffin that could justify LPL quirks. :3

There's one more obscure not-exactly-variant I've seen in mega-mek that I don't expect to see here (but it would be cool!). It's a GRF-1N with a small laser in the CT. IIRC, it's source material was only published in the UK, and it doesn't claim to be anything other than a 1N. Imagine that CT laser though ...

How about,
Light: Firefalcon
Medium: Pouncer, Huntsman or Coyotl
Heavy: Nightgyr, Glass Spider
Assault: Bane

While I find the Bane (Kraken) one of the most amazing mechs of all time, like the Glass Spider it is not an omnimech.

Meh, that's the thing though, you really can't test, because hitboxes and pinpoint aim and hardpoints really mean nothing in TT.

You have modifiers based on movement, but that really doesn't tell the story. In TT, the Awesome 8Q is an outright death machine. How well has that translated?

In TT, all mechs have the same "hitboxes" (aka location hit chart) and aside from leg mounted weapons and level 1 terrain, the same "hardpoint elevation". Geometry is utterly meaningless.

Those are overwhelmingly the deciding factors of what DOES define viability in MWO, as an FPS.

For it to really tell us anything, all MWO Mechs would have to have the exact same size, profile and hardpoint locations, THEN you could compare the effects of loadout vs armor vs speed.

As it is, TT really tells us NOTHING about in game viability, other than what it SHOULD be able to do, but can't.

You have outlined exactly what needs to be quantified in order to normalize mech durability. TT mech construction cost functions unified 20 ton vs 100 ton mechs. In MWO tonnage and performance has a completely different function.

We know next to nothing about how mechs get there size and hit boxes... what we know is Russ will look into it if sufficient noise is created. That means to me a qualitative assessment not something quantitative derived from a performance model unifying all mechs collected from thousands of games....

Mechs get butchered during the translation from art work into a playable model. This tells me PGI has not quantified the change from a 2d6 RNG hit location system into a skill based FPS. Recent comments from Russ indicate a new system is in place and the Cat will get a pass. So yes progress seems to be happening. But it's obfuscated.

Nothing from Mechforce UK, etc. is canonical. These are the people who thought a RAC/20 was a good idea.

(No, seriously. Like the German stuff, it's fan material.)

I really hope they think the way Command Console works.

And yes, MASC needs a help.

Which is pretty much why I don't expect it here. :(

I figured it would be reasoning along thise lines, but lack sufficient knowledge of the broader IP to be certain that this was specifically the reason in play. Thanks for the knowledge buff!

Buuuuuut that RAF20 does sound fun, doesn't it? :D

I mean, I'm happy they're making more Mech packs, and more clan Mechs are fun and all,
but as an IS light/medium pilot, I've been feeling really left out recently.

The medium weight is not badly represented.

IS has
8 light mechs,
11 medium mechs,
9 heavy mechs (12 counting Warhammer, Rifleman and Archer), and
9 assault mechs.

But yes, it's been a long time there is no new IS medium mech. Don´t worry, the Phoenix Hawk it's almost here (but considering the later Russ' tweets, it will be after the Clan Wave IV).

Considering PGI already ghostheats UAC/20s, firing a RAC/20 on six-shot mode would likely explode the firing 'Mech. Heck, even RAC/2 or RAC/5's are going to have...interesting issues right now.
