The important thing as always is to keep expectations in check. This is an indie studio making a game on a rather limited budget (compared to AAA studios).

After watching the demo mission from MechCon (seeing a mission played out), and hearing the AMAs, I would like to think I have a pretty solid idea of what MechWarrior 5 is going to be. It sounds like basically an updated MechWarrior 4:Mercs with the obvious visual improvements. It has a more limited Mechlab, but also a bit more Company management and more contract freedom, and a lot more mechs.

Mind you, the demo we saw at MechCon was an Alpha at best, so there would most likely be some AI improvements and also the change to the building collision destruction (no more hot knife through butter).

Maybe I am selling it short comparing it to an updated MechWarrior 4:Mercs, however from what we have seen, I think that is a solid evaluation. I enjoyed playing MW4:Mercs, I have a good feeling I will enjoy this one too.

Just by going off of what was shown at MechCon and what was talked about in the AMAs, it should be worth every penny I have paid for it.

Updated MW4 is fine for me. The fact it will be moddable is a huge bonus.

No news in a long time...

Come on PGI, don't let MWO die before the release of Wasp, Crusader and Firemoth.

The developer update states Russ will directly be addressing the future of mech packs, so it's a known topic; and likely there will be some form of announcement during the livestream. It's also worth noting that MW5 is NOT on the docket at all, so I don't think MWO is going anywhere. However, we might hear if/how MWO and MW5 might/might-not be blending together in the future.

I ....elected not to give the Hauptman cancer..... (and the patron's loadout didn't include a head weapon) But as you can see.. he's on the patch.

Anyways I suppose I should post this now:

Curiously the original Prime variant has the big cannon in the LT instead of the RT like all of the artwork indicates. I assume this would mean you get a double-hunch if you take a big gun in each ST by pod mixing.

An easy choice for the hero variant would be Nondi Steiner, the final boss of MW4 Mercs if you went the Davion path. Give her some ballistics in each arm and big energy hunches (like HPPCs or PPCs) in each ST.

CASE is the cause, but wasn't case available as omni pod as well? Would freaking hate the Hauptmann when PGI would not fix the loadout. (Ballistic into the RT)

The CASE is hardwired to the RT. You can pod-mount one in the LT if you want. Hopefully PGI would let us remove the RT one.

Yeah Nondi makes the most sense because also in the novels she fights Peter which is even referenced in MW4

Here is the most useful information: locked speed at 48.6 km/h.

It's just 5 tons lighter than the Anni who is also locked at that speed.

The Hauptmann is ok. With a LFE 300 it would be better of course, but I think it can work. What's most important for an assault is its offensive potential, and the Hauptmann can mount some good weaponry.

Nondi Steiner is the obvious choice, although there are others, and seeing the Royal Guards paintscheme again would be cool. PGI really did a nice job with that on Peter's Fafnir.

It would have to be an LFE285 because of TT engine rules being enforced for Omnis.

Yes, of course. The Hauptmann is stuck with the STD 285. I am just saying that the LFE 300 would be my engine of choice if that were possible (which it is not). But again, it is not so bad.
I'd argue the Hauptmann is perhaps the best IS Omni assault, but I have seen good assault players favouring the Sunder.

I dunno why they keep picking the Sunder, since PGI is not ever gonna change IS XL mechanics and that thing has giant ST hitboxes. Hauptmann is the only one that would be almost guaranteed to be good out of the box with minimal PGI quirk assistance.
