FFP - fine. 3rd w/no reticle - fine. If its ffp to make it "realistic", then make mine a realistic field of view. In the 20th Century, I could look out the side window of my FORD without hitting a button. A thousand years later & I can"t?!? Make THAT work & I'm all in on FFP.

I think we could have saved a lot of typing and just dredged up all these same arguments from previous Mech game websites and forums.

The answer is still perfectly simple.

This is a GAME ... there should be two options set by the server controls ... one to set the view to FP only so that all the die hard sim players can't whine about someone cheating using 3rd person ... and another server option that allows the use of 3rd person view.

There ... simple no matter which way you look at it when you join a server set by view then all have the same advantages and disadvantges ...

Not too difficult really ... was it now?

Why do you hate devs? Have you seen how much work they put into cockpits and you want to destroy all of it? Sad. :)

Lots of mechs don't exactly have 'side windows' so use monitors with cameras to see the sides and behind them.

1st person only for me, 3rd person option is fine if it's a server option and it's not turned on on the server I am playing on. The "no reticle/no hud" idea won't work because the main problem with 3rd person view is extra recon capability - ability to see around the corner / over the hill. It would work if devs made it so that things you don't see in FP don't render at all in TP, but that's a lot of work for very little gain.

I detest 3rd person in any shooter. Personal preference, you understand - I don't condemn people who do like it. Like PLEXI said, the ability to look around your cockpit independently too (as you do in some flight sims) would be a nice feature.

I don't mind it in this game at all its the way things are. But I will say I and many others who won't freely admit it ;), tend to get motion sickness from FPS games. That's one of those things that just happens. Most of us are willing to make sacrifices for the games we love though :)

I am pro FPP. That said, I think there is still a place for TPP. I like the idea of a drone, and be able to bring the "drone view" up on your primary screen, but that would be different from TPP. TPP should not under any circumstances have any of the combat information available, including any HUD information, targeting reticule, or radar. It should just be a "view", like from a close external camera.

Now there's an idea. A UAV, but instead of changing your view to true 3rd person, it directs the pilot's view to a monitor where it displays the image of the drone, which could then be orbited around your mech to give you different views. This could also be an option that is installed during configuration in the mechbay.

Also, those of you calling us FPP guys selfish and whining about motion sickness: stop being so hypocritical. They could easily add an option to dampen or eliminate camera sway so you don't get motion sickness. Lots of FPS games already do this. Problem solved.

But let's be honest, that's not really the reason you want TPP, is it? ~_^

;) After you give your 21st century Ford the ability to prevent Gauss rifle slugs from killing the driver, come back and tell us how the new view worked out. :)

I remember a time when those who suffered motion sickness due to video games did NOT ask for a 3rd person point of view, they asked for the MOTION to be stopped, as THAT actually solves the problem.

Today..'I suffer from motion sickness, give me 3PP so it doesn't happen or I won't play!'. Not, 'please fix the motion so I can play'..that kinda makes me wonder about this person's actual medical condition, like..maybe they don't have it..they just want that obvious tactical advantage.

And I do know people suffer from motion sickness due to video games, and I know the simple and always working fix is..disable that camera/hud movement. Not 3PP, since if it has those movements, they get sick too, so..why do these folks want 3PP?

Well..that's simple, I stated it, others have too, tactical advantage, nothing more and nothing less. Anyone who denies this is lying, flat out, and they know it. Being able to see around objects, over objects, THROUGH objects, this is a very clear tactical advantage and has NO basis at ALL in the BTU canon. Various sensor technologies are discussed in various novels, IR, Mag, even Siesmic, but they don't have x-ray vision that sees everything and anything within the viewing distance regardless of what's blocking that view. That's what 3PP does, it's why people want it, it's a glaringly huge tactical advantage, and outside of the tactical advantage, it has no game purpose, especially not in combat. Want to see your Mech from the outside? As stated, MechLab or whatever we get, view it before you go into or after you return from battle.

The view we get INSIDE the cockpit..yeah, I'd HATE to try and learn to use a 360 view compressed to 160 directly in front of me. As already stated, canon says it's one of the hardest things to get used to while learning to be a MechWarrior, which isn't something you do over night in the first place. Give me a nice cockpit, let me look out the canopy or at a view screen where applicable that shows me a nice forward view, with options to pull up side/rear views on the same screen OR screens set elsewhere, whatever, just make it LOOK good and be functional at the same time. Exactly as that beautiful Hunchback cockpit you've released shows. That's my desktop btw, just that cockpit..awesome. THAT is what I want, a cockpit that's good looking and functional.

And, for those who truely do suffer from motion sickness, include that simple 'stop sway' option...problems all solved.

Really hope they strive for FP here w option of static cockpit or something for the medically impaired.
You don't stand on the rear deck of your car to finish the race, or jump from the cockpit to the tip of your vertical stabalizer to fly into combat. It's so jr. arcade like.

well it all depends on my mood to be honest...its like in racing games...sometimes i like the simulation feeling to sit in the cockpit etc, but sometimes i just wanna see my car/ Mech moving, throwing mud, see the mechanics work on my machine... i´d like to have the option for both

maybe you should have a small benefit on accuracy when in cockpitview :P

Mountains out of molehills. I don't mind 3rd-person, as long as there's a way to turn restrictions on/off in the game host; that way, the players can agree on it (or not) before a match, as with MW4Mercs. It could either be a home field advantage for the hosting team, or a condition of a planetary takeover.

But I kinda like looking through the cockpit glass.

First person only gets my vote.

I used to play MW3 at a gaming store that had 10 networked computers decked out with command chair, throttle, joystick, foot peddles, and 21 inch monitors. Nothing bummed me out more than seeing someone playing in 3rd person mode using the keyboard/mouse and the targeting computer, standing still head-shotting people across the map.

Might as well play a first person shooter : /

First person for immersion, but I'd like a to see a button that switched to a first person view with some sort of 360 degree view to better match up with the fluff of what actual mech pilots see. Maybe make forward take up more room on your monitor than back to make it more playable. If this was a hardcore sim you could have your reticule separate off when shooting sideways or almost backwards to represent arm mounted weapons like in the novels.

I'd settle for an operational hat switch to facilitate looking "around".

I've got no problem with 1st person, it's definitely the perspective of choice for simulation. I do have a soft spot for 3rd person views though - partly so I don't clip the corners of buildings when wheeling around urban maps, but mostly because I'm playing a game with giant stompy robots, and I want to admire my giant stompy robot stomping around!
