I think first thing is frist, and that it doesn't matter which way the Dev team goes, they need to pick which view it is going to be, and make it that way for everyone. If they go 1st Person, everyone needs to play 1st person, if they go 3rd person everyone needs to play 3rd person, for Balance, it needs to be the same for everyone, if they want people to be able to switch veiws at will, then so be it, that might be the best way to cater to everyone.
That said, in MW 3 and 4... certain weapons had certain effects, physically for your mech that hurt you a TON more in 1st person than they did in 3rd person, which is why so many people played in 3rd person online against other players, becuase it was a tactical advantage, If they go hit with two gauss rifles, it took them little time to refind thier target and go back at attacking in 3rd person, while in 1st person you were rocked (like you would be for taking 15+ damage in a turn), and the game had a physical effect to repersent that, and back in the MW4 online heydays, people who lived and died by playing in 3rd person, did so only becase a lot of the in game effects to targeting, and realisiam effects were negated by the use of 3rd person as oppossed to 1st. 1st Person had some realistic effects assosciated with taking to much damage at once or certain weapons being used, so people started playing more in 3rd person to reduce those effects. Mechassult was all 3rd person so it was all fair, MW3 and 4 were not.
So it needs to be one way or the other, for everyone, and if they do make it so you can do both, if they have weapon effects in 1st person (example, your torso being knocked upwards 30 degrees when hit by a guass rifle, or smoke in your sights from those two LRM 20's that the catapult just hit you with, or fire in your feild of vision from a flame or inforno SRM 4), they need to devise a way to make certain that the players in 3rd person veiw suffer the same disadvantages, becuase in MW3 and 4, they didn't suffer the same disadvantages, which is why so many people played in 3rd person in multi player, to WIN.
If there is no way to make a fair balance between 1st and 3rd, then one needs to be removed, and if one had to be removed I'm going to guess it would be 3rd person, since all the books we so much like to quote and argue the lore on make it VERY celar which perspective a mechwarrior has, there is no floating camera flying behind Widowmaker or Yen-Lo-Wang, The pilot sitting in the chair sees what is in front of him or her based off of the feedback from their nerohemlet. I'm sure you can have a rear veiw cam however you can put up in a side box, and if you have "motion sickness", maybe the devs will put something in where there will me no rocking motion as you move, but if my mech gets rocked by damage and it takes me 3 seconds to get righted and my bearings back, you better not be able to attack in the same amount of time, just becuase settings are reduced for people "Motion sickness".
I lived and worked on a cruise ship for 3 years, if have "Motion Sickness" put two teaspoons or bitters over ice, and pour a 6 ounce can of ginger ale over it, it works great on the high seas at 30 knotts, you should be fine in your computer chair.
