XL seems to work for people, but not for me, i just instant die when im in xl.
So im running 325 std engines for now, Its a little slow but will be ok once mastered.

Does an XL really work on the king crab? I've just begun on my first crabbie (4 ac5 and 2 mlas) and i find that although i survive longer with a STD engine i'm left with 1/2 or less weapons once i lose a side torso.

It can work if you go for a longer range build and stay at range. I was trying 350XL with 2xERPPC and 2xGauss (6 tons ammo) this morning, and so long as I kept my distance I was usually ok.

I would advise against them unless you are a die hard assault pilot. I have not seen many King Crabs being used effectively, especially when EVERYONE had them upon initial release. They are in fact my favorite target when I'm piloting a light.

This thing plays like a direwolf mixed with a fat, slow, warhawk.

Yes it can. Especially at long range. I've actually used an XL 340 (hit the proper weight to firepower sweet spot for me, and I had one lying around too) in it for one my brawler builds with dual AC 20s, but I recommend STD 300-325 for brawler builds.

I run a mix of XL and standard engine builds. I don't really notice a difference. Although lights will try to get behind you and take out a ST if they can, so if you run an XL, be extra vigilant of lights trying to sneak up on you.

Otherwise, I try to always get a 325+ engine on my crabs. If I can get a standard, I will, otherwise I will go XL. A 300 engine is just SOOOO slow. I have to have a LOT of firepower running fairly cool to consider dropping down that low. (4XUAC5 builds are an example)

Yes, that 300 is so slow. Those arms don't really help to block shots either.

i run with 325 std, it was kinda on the slow side, some games i simply died because everyone were running so faar ahead of me, but now after speed tweak, its feels just right.

Right now I have 73 matches under my belt in the KGC series. This past morning I went toe to toe with a 4xUAC5/2xLPL Dire Wolf in a KGC and put it down. I have an overall KDR of 0.85, but my KDR in KGCs is 1.5. They're good, and the most obvious builds also happen to be good builds.

Just had a game with dual gauss, 2 mlas and 4 srm2. Somehow the gauss works for me, and all i added was advanced zoom. The mlas and srm2s gave me something to do while i stared at opponents

Is it worth it? Absolutely. After eliting, I'd take it over an Atlas any day for general purposes, including brawling (the only thing the Atlas does better is soaking damage). All of my Crabs are absolute killers with K/D over 3 already.

Innorite?

I am really looking long and hard at grinding out the three now they are cbill ready.
really...they are tough to kill, they lay down the damage, the quirks they get are insane...
like the Dire, I simply will NOT attack one head on...there are very, very mechs I dont have to have a blink contest with. Very few.

Man, hats off to anyone who can pilot these things with any success. I love me some Atlas carnage and have the RS(C), D, and D-DC mastered (fer realz mastered, not just elited) and I usually wreck face in all of them.

Figured I'd finally bust out my pre-order KGC and... yuck. I even dropped the LRM-15 for more AC-20 ammo and heat sinks but, geez, I don't think there's a mech in the game that's a bigger, slower target than the KGC.

I've taken it out probably a dozen times and even when I play as conservatively as possible I'm instantly chum for anything under 45 tons. Firestarters particularly love to eat crab, as it turns out.

So kudos to anyone who can find success in that monstrosity; I'll stick to my Atlases if I'm rolling a 100 tonner!
