Ok so here is how I look at the Star League situation as it relates to CW and some other facts about CW in general.
First things first (cause if they were second or third it would be meaningless I suppose ) this post has nothing to do with flaming of any type, it is not trolling, It is my opinions on a few things that after reading 30 plus pages on this post as well as many others relating to similar talks leading up to the Star League.
Merc units are the deciding factor in map movements for CW. Not trying to be mean, but it is a fact.. While loyalists might say that is not so, the proof is there. For example, when CW began , there were a lot of Merc Units in Davion. Davion had a huge population due to that, hence it waged war on Liao, Marik, and Kurita. Likewise some of the clans had Merc units with them, thus gaining a population advantage over some of the Northern IS houses. Marik had a couple, from the start like BWC, as well as other factions/clans . As Merc units decided to work for other factions/clans, the tide shifted. The Merc units ultimately decide the outcome when it comes to the gathering of planets for a faction/clan....
That is not saying that loyalists are not trying, or doing a good job. It is a purely population standpoint, and if CW has shown us anything, it is about populations. Merc units are the majority of population in CW.
As far as the Star League goes. I understand that people want to "reform the Star League" for their personal RP beliefs, to push back the clans out of the inner sphere, but this argument has been going on for longer than this forum post, actually the beginnings of it started out of a "Marik is all quiet" thread and perhaps even before that. The idea that the Star League is going to band together to push the clans back can work, but here is the problem, the only way it does work is if the Merc units are at the front of it. Not only for the IS but also for the clans.
PGI made the decision, to not make Merc units have their own respective faction. Why they decided on this really makes me ponder. Did they feel that if Merc had their own faction, there would be no real reason for them to bounce around the different factions/clans? Because as It currently stands, your best bet to benefit is to be a Merc unit. While I personally would like to see everyone in the same situation as everyone else, being a loyalist is potentially costing those loyalists any benefits for being a loyalist.
Lastly, as someone who is not a Battletech canon guy ( for me I was into D&D ) and someone who has played numerous MMORPG's . I know that Battletech canon dictated that the clans came down from the same place and the RP purists are happy with that, but PGI should have broken away from the canon for the overall benefit of CW. They should have put the clans around the inner sphere instead of one location. It would have benefitted the southern IS houses ( in which there would have been a clan to deal with) as well as the northern ones ( not getting swamped by multiple clan fronts ). But I know what most people are thinking... "Your screwing with the lore of Battletech,MechWarrior, etc etc." . My answer is yes, and every other person in this game is breaking lore in some way or another.
I will ask this one question for everyone to think about.... Which is more important to the overall success of CW, the lore or the gamemode ?
