Canada/USA = English
Europe = English, Spanish, Portugese, German, Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Flemish, Icelandic, French, Dutch, Russian, Swiss etc etc... (sorry to all those I missed)
Unfortunately, we aren't quite as compatible and we know it!
Aye this has been an issue in previous games I have played. I looked it up on wiki-we euros have 24 official languages....EEK.
You often get people who refuse point blank to use english-it somehow offends them it seems.
Others who are too scared to try-no need! We LOVE that you try, it does not matter how good you are, we respect the fact you try.
I've found voip to be great for CW-in the bare mechanical sense. For the match it's very useful, but the major point I'd like to make is:
MWO is MORE than just a 10 minute interaction in one match. The in game voip ONLY caters to that, the bare mechanical minimum. The broader community still needs to use external comms, for all the social chatter and errata.
In game voip is a a major victory for the 10 minute militant solo army, it caters brilliantly to their specific needs...a semi group experience lite.
For the rest of us though? Not so much. the game has lasted because of peeps pulling together, via the forums, units faction TS and the like. For an actual large community to grow, a community that will ensure longevity, one that will welcome new players and make them feel at home we need MUCH more than 10 min shorts.
Wonderful, well done solo army-you have exactly what you wanted, now is it our turn?
We need something to help units and factions now. The game needs to start gearing up bringing people TOGETHER-not splitting them apart. We need to start putting pressure onto PGI to help that happen as the solos have done. The voip in CW hints at a great future, we just need a way to bring all them units and factions together-without spoling friendships and casual chat along the way.
Question is can we and PGI do it?

The quality is low. This was easily tested talking to the same people over in game and out of game software. It is hard to understand some people depending on accents and other similar variations. Increase the quality and it will be a very welcome addition.

How long did it take LRMopocalypse to happen when Artemis dropped? (That wasn't even foreseen as that big of a thing)
VOIP and ingame lobby/faction chat has been clammored for, for years...
You don't release a game on Steam without basic features. You just don't do it.

The quality may be a concern, some people came through very clear while others were garbled. However, it is hard to say if that has more to do with the user's mic.
Maybe it will take some time for everyone to break their old habits as pugs of not communicating, or maybe it'll never be used. At the very least it is not yet detrimental to the experience. That was my concern.

Jim Sterling has an entire series of videos that proves people do just that. Though I agree they should not.

That is pre-drop though right? How do we know who the mouth piece will be after the drop starts? Unless they reveal themselves early I guess. LOL

When I used Planetside 2's in-game VOIP, at first it was horribly choppy and when I did the voice-feedback test I could barely understand what I was saying. After turning down the transmit volume the actual volume stayed the same, but the choppiness went away. The echo sounded clearer to me, and other players confirmed that they could hear me much better. Obviously you don't want to turn it down too much though: whispering is just as bad as garbling! Do several passes to find the right balance of clarity and audibility.
Presumably what happened is the game had some kind of volume filter in place, so if your transmission was regularly exceeding that filter's threshold it would get mangled. If the in-game VOIP here has a similar tendancy to be garbled, it may be the same.
If it turns out this does work, pass it on to other people whose comms are mangled. It may not be a bad mic, they might just have to adjust their settings. Of course, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink...

Not saying it cannot/will not become more popular.. but for all the clammoring about in the forums.. it's not exactly wildfire.. it's actually more like Battlefield 4.. where 90% of the players I see have mics.. and 90% of those don't use them.
I suspect so it will be with MWO. Pubs will be pubs.
You don't want 100% using their microphones.
You do want 100% of the people listening to their headsets though.

I did notice some increased lag time in several matches yesterday, and again this morning. There is also double feedback, Christmas music, some abuse and swearing, garbled voices, other issues.... it is certainly not perfected yet.
When I got tired of it, I simply removed my headset and went True Native Pug for a while:)
There is also the noticeably increased unit performance on the field. The pugs were less puggy - especially in CW - which is a nice enhancement to the game.

My problem is this: VOIP worked for a few solo matches. Woo! Then I turned it off in order to play some group matches with my friends on our private TS server. That still worked too, woo! Then I turned it back on to go back to playing in the solo queue... and it no longer works. (And no, I don't still have TS running in the background causing potential conflicts.) I can hear other people, but they can't hear me at all.
