I recognize a couple of the names on that list, but as some stated before - they didn't really came up in those matches I saw with unusual a kill or damage ratio.

Way to go PGI! Thanks for taking the time to track down the cheaters!

Now, if PGI could finally also improve/fix hit reg/HSR...

Yeah that's what I was hoping for too. I like to think the forum warrior elites suck so bad at the game, their crutch is the forums and not cheats......or they'd actually be playing the game instead of accruing 500,000 posts.

Some folks accrue big post counts because they post at work, while they can access the forums on the sly but can't run the game.

Something I've totally never done before, by the way.

ANYWAYS. Interesting to see Piranha take this stance with account bans. I've never been part of a game that did its own public name-n-shame with cheaters - they banned cheaters, absolutely, but you never knew who unless other players did some sleuthing. Discussing bans for any reason tended to result in more bans.

Gotta say, this Hall of Shame approach is kinda refreshing. Only recognized one name outright on the list, had a few faint twinges of a few others, but nevertheless, sixty-four accounts (and about forty players, based on obvious dupes...) who will no longer trouble MWO. I like this. Like someone said earlier in the thread, cheats harm the MWO playerbase as a whole. Only feels right that the playerbase as a whole (or at least the forumite userbase) gets to get a few of their own licks in.

No sympathy for cheats, beeteedubs. You all knew just exactly what you were signing up for when you installed third-party hacks; if you wanted to gamble your account status on a few extra legs up, then you have no grounds to complain when the dice come up snake-eyes for you. Enjoy starting from scratch, and/or (hopefully not) be seeing you in other games.

As for concerns over TeamSpeak...that's not any kind of issue. TeamSpeak does not, as I recall, even interface with the MWO client at all, it's no more a third-party cheat tool than keeping Chrome open to a Smurfy tab or an online strategy guide is. It's just another program you're running concurrently with MWO, and with the introduction (and subsequent complete fizzle) of the game's own integrated VoIP, you're not even gaining any advantage the game doesn't explicitly replicate. Except, perhaps, for quality voice software; the integrated system is not really the tippy-top of the heap :P

But yeah. I like where this is going, I'm curious to see where it ends up. Threads like this from PGI will be great 'learning' tools for the Steam crowd when they eventually show up and inevitably start trying to wallhack their way to illegitimate success.

Nothing better than righteous justice, amirite? Name and shame was certainly an interesting approach. :D

As Nightmare1 said, your posts come across as being sorry for and excusing the use of hacks due to being an inexperienced or bad player. Your own responses to being called on this aren't helping your case, just let it go please.

I am rather vehement about hack users and what should be done to them, as I said, I used to hunt them as part of my job duties, and I did that for over a decade. I've seen exactly what they can do to a gaming community, even ones smaller than MWO's community, and it's horrible. The reaction to ModPud should give you some idea of how bad of an effect these people have on a community.

How PGI found the hack users, that was easy, they were reported and then PGI simply looked. It's NOT all that difficult to find hack users, the hack makers simply try to fool detectors who look during hack usage, that's all that's needed in most cases. But they always leave a trace, it's software after all.

MWO hacks aren't freebies, they are a product that's sold online for real cash. Think about that for a minute....

Who is going to give real money for MWO hacks now that PGI has made it extremely clear that if you use it, they WILL find out and they will permban you, no warnings, no exceptions, no refunds.

Very smart PR move by PGI all in all, they not only show us they are serious about not allowing hack users in the game, but they also make it clear to the people making the hacks that it's NOT a good business for them to be in.

If you think my replies excuse the use of hacks then you are an idiot. Do I feel sorry for the ones banned yes.

Now could you please stop accusing me of things I didnt say. That goes for the other troll to.

By the way, I am glad your trolling me, someone else may be bothered by it or worse be given a negative outlook about these forums.

Okay I was using one small thing but that's not a cheat.

Okay well, it is a cheat but it's really minor.

Hey, seeing through walls isn't that much of an advantage.

I hardly ever used the aimbot.

The name and shame is a great PR tool as well, and it's one I'm personally used to using/seeing in games. We did it when I was doing hack hunting for an ISP who ran game servers, we'd post the names of anyone we busted on our webpage. Did it when I helped admin servers for other games as well, posted names of busted players every time, usually with the proof of their hack usage, screenshots, positive returns from detection software, etc, even videos sometimes.

And it was effective, people playing the games would find our webpages, see that we dealt with hack users harshly and quickly, and they'd play on our servers because it was a safe place to play.

PGI doing this shows the gaming world that they are serious about not allowing hack users to be in the game, heads on pikes it may be, but that IS a rather successful deterrent in reality. People see that PGI's game is clean, they don't tolerate hack users AT ALL! This will make the news for the various gamezines, and this will draw in new players who are looking for a hack free game, which in this day and age, is not very easy to find.

Nothing real is 100%.

However I'm glad PGI are banning people for cheating.

I only recognize a few names, but I take that as an indicator of how genuinely mediocre I must be.

OK, who is going to interview one of the cheater? I wanna read a homestory now.

Title could be: How i became a cheater in mwo.

Ofc the homestory should include relevant portions of the childhood

Well done for doing this pgi.

I knew a few, but one I KNEW WELL!

Some of these guys were very mediocre....which makes me think. Were they THAT bad without the hacks or did PGI make a mistake?

Either way, im glad to see the ball rolling on this one!

I browsed through some of my latest match end screens, only came up with one of these guys in them. Peculiarily, he did 77 damage in that match and apparently spent most of his time letting everyone in chat know how bad his team was. :D

I'm sure there is a perfectly reasonable explanation, and it's all one big misunderstanding.

(video evidence = going to be hard to rebut)
