Some of the comments in this thread are funny, like "none of the people I reported are on there or such". Well guess what there are people who are really that much better than you in this game, get over it.
I have been accused of hacking a couple of times in game and I am not even as good as the people I play with most of the time.
I am glad they have some sort of anti-cheat detection working and I am glad this is happening.
But as in other games I have been involved with your probably not going to see a lot of the top players banned, it its not worth the risk for them

Yeah... I have to agree. I dropped in two CW matches last night, and we simply got out played by the IS teams in one of them. I got at least two guys that dropped on our team in both games, and both times they tried to claim that the IS had hackers on their side. I think what was happening was that some of them was poking out and playing the snipe game with the IS players, and they "claimed" a couple large lasers just took off there side torso, so the IS side must be cheating. What was really going on is that I think they got focused fired on by stalkers and thunders, and they missed the concept you can't expect to play poke and fire and not lose your mechs armor, and fast.

One of our team mates claimed that fire was coming through walls while he was in his dire, and hitting him... Must be a hack and someone was cheating. I was spectating at this point, I have it on fraps also, and from what I could see, he had just enough of his mech not behind cover that the enemy was able to hit him. We won that game... but man, several on my team kept typing and chatting that the IS players was cheating. I simply didn't see any cheating going on, just a solid match, with the first one we played, we just failed to play as a team and win.

This was just one wave. There will be more they may not get the same list treatment but more will come.

Good on PGI.

Just a personal opinion ... but I think that every wave of bans for cheating SHOULD be made public.

It has several important side effects

1) Players of the game can know who has been banned for cheating ... so if they wonder why they haven't seen a specific individual in some time they can determine if they were banned for cheating.

2) It acts as an increased deterrent to cheating in the first place. Not only will these folks lose access to any content on the account ... their character name becomes publicly associated with cheating. If that name has been used on other social media then the reputation of that entire online identity is sullied. For anyone who is invested in the game this can be a significant additional deterrent.

3) It allows the community some insight into both the scale of cheating and the level of competition where cheating appears to be most prominent.

Information shared with the community will (in every case I have encountered) improve community relations ... PGI needs to keep that in mind and share more (within reason) rather than less as a result.

With the big ping problems at the moment people also have to realize that the server will still be registering hits up to a second after you enter cover.
If you play peekaboo in this broken lag state you are going to get trashed, by the time you see them start shooting the server has already registered you standing still while full beam duration drilled into you.

rightfully so?? lol, I haven't gotten any info( I wasn't banned ). Look how much confusion is out there on what is or isn't a cheat.. PGI doesn't do a great job of saying what is, look at this thread, PGI had to step in and say "yes we didn't ban this or that even though we could". Cheating is a word with many levels, and I wouldn't be surprised if some of the people on the list were banned for thing most wouldn't really see as cheating but more of just being a dumb ass or not knowing better because it wasn't obvious.

Honestly ... I think it is unlikely that folks would get banned for doing something they did not realize was not allowed.

Lets see ... if you went out on the internet and bought (or wrote your own) 3rd party software that did the following ..

1) Let you see where all the mechs were on the map and in some cases target them even though you could not see them ... is that cheating? Would a reasonable person think that was cheating? I think so ...

2) Installed software with an aim assist function that would keep your weapons on the target or on a particular point on the target ... do you think a reasonable person would consider that cheating? I think so ...

Do you think anyone could install tools like this that they would NOT think it was cheating? It is clearly stated that use of 3rd party software to give an ingame advantage is not allowed.

PGI has also stated that they do not issue bans for using macros, sweetfx or VOIP.

Software that adjusts the gamma factor for night maps is probably a gray area from a practical perspective ... but that one would probably be a judgement call on PGIs part ... I don't think anyone would be on THIS banned list for adjusting the gamma factor.

I like to say this in a online multiplayer game. Cheaters no balls. Same goes for those who cheats in Counterstrike,Medal of Honor & Battlefield. I stopped playing these games online due to too many cheaters. Hope MWO will stay healthy for long time to come. Keep up the good work PGI.

This doesn't make sense.

There needs to be an active process that's checking for code injection. You don't just go back and "look at the logs."

Why would you need video evidence to begin code checking? There are thousands of games per day. You can't spectate anywhere close to a reasonable number of players to determine who needs to be "code checked" if things worked the way you hypothesize. That's just not how things work.

PGI can spectate and monitor any match and any player in real time as it is running. When likely cheaters have been identified, PGI can watch EVERY SINGLE match they participate in from their perspective and that of the opponents they are facing. They also likely have tools that can be activated in such circumstances to capture additional client data.

The targeted player is never aware they are being monitored and such monitoring is certainly allowed by the games terms of service in respect to identifying cheating.

The biggest problem with thousands of players is likely the first identification of players that need to be monitored. These likely come from performance statistical anomalies and reports from players though there may be other indications of likely cheating that PGI can use to select individuals.

Yeah that's what I was hoping for too. I like to think the forum warrior elites suck so bad at the game, their crutch is the forums and not cheats......or they'd actually be playing the game instead of accruing 500,000 posts.

Thing is I have never tried to pass myself off as a god of the game. And I have 8 hours a day running CNC machines. SO lots of time to post. :P

Oh and only 32K posts not 500K

Bhael's computer is not his daughter's computer and they have separate accounts. Bhael was banned simply because he played from the same IP.

LOL. You have ABSOLUTELY no idea whether this statement is true or not ... unless you have received an email from MWO support stating that Bhael's account was banned for originating a the same IP? I didn't think so ...

If I have to choose between folks lying and PGI making a mistake ... I would tend to go with the first. Maybe Bhael made an error in judgement and decided to try out a hack that his kids had downloaded ... then perhaps regretted it ... but the damage was done. Or maybe the kids installed the hack on his computer as well and it was running while he played ... maybe he noticed or maybe he didn't ... maybe the hack was running but he didn't know it. If the latter was the case then he needs to have a discussion with his kids ... but from the point of view of MWO ... the account is STILL guilty of running a hack during active game play.

The point is that ALL of the comments in this thread demanding proof are spurious ... ONLY PGI and the customer involved KNOW whether hacked clients were used or NOT. PGI has metrics in place to detect the presence and use of hacks ... their results are unequivocal from their perspective. However, they can't identify the person sitting behind the computer .. only the hacks being installed and used on the account.

Finally, just to be clear ... a shared IP address is NOT sufficient to ban multiple accounts. Houses/dormitories/businesses/organizations with routers have ONE public IP address for anywhere from one to thousands of computers. A shared IP address may be sufficient to identify accounts for closer investigation ... it is FAR from sufficient to ban an account.

I'd Like to report a cheater....

I few of us were playing the forum deathmatch where you shoot the trollmech and this guy named Alexander Garden came into our match and insta-killed us and even caused our game to reset completely and we then couldn't even log back into it -- that guy is using some type of hack.

....

On a more serious note -- we can now watch some interesting textbook psychology of (liars) cheaters on display-- I like the one where many liars will still profess innocence even when indisputable evidence is placed in front of them. Granted we don't get to see the evidence here -- and its pretty obvious why (to any who have logic at their disposal) -- none the less it's entertaining.

TY PGI for this public display to help rebuild confidence in the game.
