From the official website.

I'm confused. And besides, if it was a free2play game, why would one of the rewards be a copy of the game?!

Even worse, if they are giving 'Mechs as rewards, it means that 'Mechs will possibly be locked and you have to grind/pay for them, just like MWO.

I don't really understand what they mean by "Firestarter/Atlas mech variant BONUS"?
Isn't this a Single-Player game? What? Will some mechs be locked out if you don't Kickstart it?

Sign me up for $50, please.

And my guess is they'll have some form of mechanic for earning 'mechs and you'll get one (or two) of those 'mechs "free" if you kickstart it.

Possibly Free-to-Play game, similar to MechWarrior Online and MechWarrior Tactics?

Guys this doesn't imply or even hint at free-to-play. It is a common practice to give backers little in-game rewards even in single player games for Kickstarting them. It's similar to a pre-order bonus, and no you won't necessarily get it after release. It is a thank you to those who helped the game get made.

That "unlocking of 'Mechs" confused me.

Sometimes I'm a bit worried. Has neither of you played MW4:Mercs, for example? Or Mechcommander? Yes, as a merc in a campaign you'll most likely have to "unlock" mechs by earning CBills and getting access to markets, probably?
It's called progress, 99% of the games use it to incentivize players to play on. That's a thing since the 1970's?
Saying it will be f2p is as baseless an assumption as saying it will be like XCom and/or Mechcommander.

You have to 'unlock' ships in Elite and Star Citizen too. Backers started with a Cobra and Beta testers got a free Eagle.

Whenever Star Citizen comes out I'll have my starting Origin 300i.

Pretty standard to reward kickstarter backers with ships and/or equipment.

A potentially geographically limited Founders program, that's just super. Hopefully only the physical rewards are GenCon only...

WaitWhat? Is that pic of something that's GenCon-only?

That's... that's just saying no to free money, that is.

Yeah don't expect it will be F2P... But I would expect multiplayer and it says they are different (exclusive?) -variants-, fun to show off in MP.

It does suck that these seem to be seperate from what they'll offer kickerstarters and it says 'in addition to' but maybe they'll offer the same stuff at I high enough level. Because I'm certainly backing this one.

I was ready to break out the wallet when I saw your posts... now I am sad.
Hmm... GenCon is only two and a half hours away...

The way it's worded it sounds like this to me:
"If you back us on Kickstarter, you'll get one or several certain mechs in your garage right at the start, sporting some unique geometry/paintjob. If you joined the Vanguard prior to the Kickstarter, you'll get an additional variant on top!"
Seriously nothing to get riled up about, I don't think the variants will be unattainable in game through regular playing.

We honestly don't know/too early to really tell.

Hopefully they will offer it after, even minus the physical rewards I'd still buy it.

Meh the variants aren't a big deal to me honestly... I'm just annoyed because I wanted the Merc dogtags. *pout* ;)

Just wait, it's not cut in stone that this is GenCon exclusive.

Yes it is a GenCon exclusive. You have to go to their booth at GenCon to become a vanguard:

For people that want to get involved early, we're going to have a Vanguard backing opportunity. They drop by the booth and we've made up dog tags from different mercenary units. They can pick those up and if they back later on, they'll get a variant of one of those 'Mechs. There are ten different types of mercenary units, and if someone wants to pick up all of them it's a $50 backing and then they get a free copy of the game when it comes out, the dog tags and the variant 'Mechs.
