I just came back to say I was here when PGI officially regretted breaking ties with Wiesman. Should have made a Battletech game bros.

They wanted to, no publisher wanted to touch an IP owned by Microsoft. S&T had no funding, and harmony gold threatened to sue because they used an unseen in the pitch trailer.

Min-FIGS. Further, we might even see IRONWINDMETALS come on-board to produce the mini-figs that we have wanted for so long. I can’t imagine Ironwindmetals not wanting to take advantage to new and updated designs to bring in more sales. Most of us already have the original mini-figs of 3025 to 3050 era mechs. So having new designs will certainly boost sales, as compared to the current selection of “past” mechs which are mostly “archived” by Ironwindmetals.

IWM only a TT BattleTech license, so while they will likely do metal versions of the new Unseen, PGI designs are off the table.

The game is going to be turned based. That makes me happy.

However, the real question now is what sort of rules set are they going to use for their turn based gameplay.

Clearly the obvious choice is if it isn't broke, don't fix it. The Classic BattleTech rules are still going strong with almost no changes from when I played it as a kid in the 1980's. Yet, the other part of my brain says they can't do that, because that would kill the boardgame sales. I find that argument dumb as hell since you can buy Risk and Monopoly as a computer game, yet you can still find the board game in the stores right now.

I don't think making their turn based gameplay rules needs to be done. Just go with what works, a VERY well tested, tried and true turn based game called BattleTech. Hexes, movement points, heat points, initiative/shooting/physicalattacks/end phase turns.

Give me an electronic boardgame of BattleTech with 3D art from MWO as their mechs. That is all I want, and I don't even need a story or campaign, or even other unit types other than mechs. Just make it have an AI opponent, and multiplayer and I will be happy.

The only other feature I want is to be able to easily add my own 3D artwork mechs into the game as playing pieces. Then if Harmony Gold want's to get upity about what mechs can and can't be used, too bad. We the fans can just make our own 3D models and import them into the game. Along with that we would need a mech lab as part of the rules. This also fixes it so anybody who hates on a particular design choice of a mech can download a modded version that might be more to their liking.

Really waiting for this since.... crescent hawk?
Megamek is good but is also annoying if u want to put together a scenario or campaign from booklets.
My dream is always been to play in the pc those awesome scenarios and campaign I used to play in TT with my friends.
Sooooo good time!

Joe, if there will be a hat trick (level 3 rules, solo-multiplayer, scenarios-campaign from official FASA books), let's see us.... in paradise!
I was thinking third mechgame but yeah that would be great!

I know it's a bit stupid, but the most exciting thing for me, might be the fact that this could be the highest chance to see my favorite BT mechs in a video game, for the first time ever, like the Vulcan (which, as far as i can recall, never appeared in any of the Mechwarrior games) or even the Quadrupeds: Goliath and Scorpion (not the Clan though, but the mechs)!

It will be interesting to see if this kickstarter and game do well enough if PGI and HBS are willing to work together to create the single player aspect for MWO.

Or even if HBS can just do Mechwarrior 5 sharing assests both ways and not include a multiplayer component.

Well if a MW5 happens and I really want it to happen even if I have to wait 10-15 years, I think HBS needs to handle design decisions with creative control given to Weisman. In any case, many past MW games all had a MP component - mainly dedicated server support so people could make their own games which is still possible to this day (as in being able to choose your map, the game mode, difficulty settings-arcade/realism, no grind, etc.) - and I really do miss that ability to just do whatever you wanted, not just the SP.

Oh God... I'm Concerned™ now. I just instantly assumed this would be a normal single purchase game. The idea that it might be "F2P" after MWO's model or similar MW:Tactics didn't occur to me. I just want a Battletech game I can pay for, with a singleplayer and a multiplayer component, just like the good old days. :(

I don't remember Shadowrun having microtransactions. I think it'll be fine if their past work is any indication.

Anybody else figure out that the wording of their release statement implies that this will be an Inner Sphere, 3025 setting? It is political intrigues in a feudal setting as you play a merc.

That means politicking in the 5 great houses. Not the Clans.

That makes sense. You don't want to start with material that can be clearly saved for a sequel or two later.

Might even be earlier.

Why not start with the first succession war?

Maybe less than five. For example very similar MechCommander 2 had only three Great Houses (Steiner, Liao, Davion).

Oh, and do not forget that ComStar might hire you for some covert mission ... as expendable asset perhaps.

Because Jordan Weisman said that the game will take place in 3025.

Yup, just like MWO should have done:

1. MWO: Succession Wars (3025 - 3049)
2. MWO: Clan Invasion (3050 - 3061)
3. MWO: Civil War (3062 - 3067)
4. MWO: Jihad (3068 - 3080)

And perhaps even MWO: Star League (2571 - 2780).

I don't really understand what they mean by "Firestarter/Atlas mech variant BONUS"?
Isn't this a Single-Player game? What? Will some mechs be locked out if you don't Kickstart it?

Possibly Free-to-Play game, similar to MechWarrior Online and MechWarrior Tactics?

"The game will feature an open-ended Mercenaries-style campaign that blends RPG ‘Mech and MechWarrior management with modern turn-based tactics."
From the official website.

I'm confused. And besides, if it was a free2play game, why would one of the rewards be a copy of the game?!
