If you knew someone was a terrorist going to kill 1000s, would you let him go, even if you promised him to before you knew he was a terrorist?!?!?! (OK< so the severity of situations MAY be a little different here.... but you would never know it by the PTS butthurt QQ, lol)

Really can you be held accountable for promises made without all the facts? ;)
Well, I'm a Texan, and truth be told I would let the terrorist go, count to 15, and then if he was still in sight, shoot him and if he wasn't in sight, I'd chase him down, then shoot him.

But... That's how us Texan's roll...

Absolutely a deal breaker....

I will NOT be buying the Hero if it has a 275 limit. That is just asking for a bad time....

I have to agree that it should have the same engine cap as the others, or failing that at the very least 300. I can't see it being very useful at low speeds, and there's no lore reason whatsoever to limit it.

I'm not interested in buying one until they correct this.

i played around with smurfy for some minutes and even with aSTD275 you can have some decent builds so I bought it. STD will be pretty mandatory i guess if you are that slow.

But slow heavies can work, look at the 4x or IV4 for example. wont be meta, of course but i couldn't care less.

IV4 can go faster than 65kph, and 4X is a joke in serious play

64 kph (pre-Speed Tweak) is pretty much the lower limit for a Heavy, and even that's arguable for the lighter end of the Heavy spectrum.

It'll hit like a Timber Wolf with 7E/1B, though. Even with diddly Sphere guns, that's a lotta diddly. ~65kph max Tweaked does sting, but it also means your engines are small enough you generally won't feel the pressure to go with an XL. Comfortable fit for assault pilots looking to dip below their normal weight spectrum a li'l bit, methinks.

Hits like a Timber Wolf, lives like a Timber Wolf. Can zombie headlaser for lulz. Doesn't move like a Timber Wolf, but is also not going to get Nerfinated like a Timber Wolf either.

And you still are massively outclassed by the Timberwolf that can hit harder, goes 25 kph faster, and has clan XL.

That, my friend, is NOT balance.

It's the IIC that the Bounty Hunter gets with Clan Tech. We're getting the 3015 era one? Still alright - comes stock with 7 energy hardpoints. With inflation it may get 9. We'll see what it gets to offset that slow engine.

getting the 3044 era one, which is the 3015 one with a field upgrade.

Yeah, I won't buy the Hero with a slow engine cap like that.

@Bishop: I could have used your support with the urbie getting it to a 255.

However I do support the 300 or 325 BH2.

Urbie never needed a 255. MAD will need a 300.

Personally, I wouldn't buy the hero, and that has nothing to do with the price or anything. It doesn't interest me.

It only has 1 more hardpoint than the rest, but it's in the head, and when considering IS weaponry, head lasers are not that valuable unless you can fit an Clan ERMed on them (or Clan ER Large). So, it's kinda overrated there.

The problem I have though is that the arbitrary engine rating system based on the stock engine is just silly, but mostly obnoxious at worst.

For instance, only of the slowest dakka mechs is the Cataphract-4X. Not only has the Jagermech obsoleted it, but it serves no real role due to being slower than the Ilya (the dakka phract of choice) due to engine options.

Then there's the wonderful 45 tonners that don't even have a 250 engine (trudub) options... most notably the Vindicator-1X and 1R... with the "not BJ-1X" variants. Why would these variants needlessly be gimped?

Unless PGI decides to change that system (I dunno, a sub-60kph Heavy sounds bad), it's not really my problem... but man you'd think addressing things like this would do themselves a favor.

I don't care either way, but arbitrary system is arbitrary. It's so dumb honestly.

It looks to me that the special variant 3R(s) that comes with the Collector's Pack is better than the Bounty Hunter.

The 3R(s) comes with 3 Ballistic and 4 Energy hardpoints, vs the BH's 1 Ballistic and 7 Energy hardpoints. While the 3R(s) doesn't have Jump Jumps like the BH, the BH's lower max engine would make it painfully slow.

What's everyone else's view?

the 3 ballistics will be largely useless. What are you going to do 3 AC2 and 4x MLs? MGs? But the engine cap will still keep it more viable

Paul's all but confirmed he's going to be updating Sphere guns/hammering Clan guns when the Great Rebalancing gets around to inter-tech balance, and I believe someone mentioned that pilot skill efficiencies are being tuned down on PTS in the near future, i.e. less icedancing fatbros from doubled ridicu-basics. Everybody's going to be slower. You may be less dead than you previously believed.

Besides, again - what're you willing to give up for the same 360 engine rating every other Marauder gets? Those Marauders give up a hardpoint to the Bounty Hunter, and also get less energy overall. The Bounty Hunter has a nearly ideal hardpoint type spread (GO GO GAUSSLASERS. Or AC/10lasers), and enough E to make a pretty ferocious fusillade.

I get it, it'd be nice if it could keep up with the 4/6 bracket, but A.) there has to be some room left for the Black Knigget to have a job next to the 7E jumping better-hitboxes ballistics-toting Man Mode-rauder, and B.) if they gave it the same 360 rating as the standard chassis, it'd also largely obsolete its own lesser kin.

They don't want one 'Mech to be able to do everything anymore, remember?

How much faster does THIS really need to be? (The 2 SRMs are tonnage placeholders for 3 x MPL.)

Okay, sure, I'd absolutely strip the AC/20 for more speed and JJ if it had a higher engine cap. I'd probably also drop a ton of AC/20 ammo for another DHS on this version. This was just a rough first cut, but it looks pretty beastly on paper.

until all the better amrored and armored Assault Mechs outrun you

Buying in at $40, not going for a base 48 kph Marauder that lacks wings and the extra 25 tons.

I for a time there, the YLW topped out at a 280 engine rating: if the Marauder hero is revisited some time later, I could see paying the MC for it.

you can always add the hero later, if they don't upgrade the engine cap, then don't pay, if they do, shell out 15 dollah.

that's the plan

Absolutely no problem with the low cap... lucky me, guess it will keep this so that not absolutely everyone would drive one :)

You get one head laser. I wouldn't really call that a real hardpoint. It's like saying the Pretty Baby needed that deceleration quirk way back when, when it clearly couldn't really compete with the other Awesomes in firepower (the engine cap for an 9M/PB is kinda overrated as it is).
