One Atlas To Go And Then I'm Done!

Since you like the Atlas so much, i'd recommend the Highlander. The 732B is pretty much what the atlas should be now, the other variants are softer but still fun and definitely not meta right now.
The Orion I want to love, but it melts like butter whenever I drive one.

When piloting the Atlas it makes me feel good that i can still deliver a punch! I find it a very good mech. (In my opinion) I have 200, 400, 600 and even a 1000 damage game matches. Sure i suck at times. But when i have a great match then i just rock it. Unfortunately it's a 'serious' teamplayer. It's a damage multiplier! Needs teammates around the mech to be effective.
Orion have a similar profile as far i know. Only smaller and perhaps can even tank more!
Atlas always have been my favourite from preivous game and the redesign turned one in my opinion one of the best looking mechs around.

Hunchback
That is all.
I really like the looks of it! I think it's one of the best designed mechs in-game. The visuals are very good and the animation is a thing i like.
Not sure if i am going to like it. It's rather light! One AC/20 and perhaps 1 or two lasers and its full!

What problems do you acknowlegde with th Orion? Same CT/ST problems or just the lack of firepower?

The Atlas will still be my main force, but i want something else. Something else to specialise on. Challenge- or not. Waiting for the Mauler takes too long. It will not be out for cbills untill february 2016 i believe.
I like building. I like shuffling with loadouts. I like being a generalist, but i like specialising as well. I dont build near quirks or 'meta'.
I have been looking at the Atlas lil brother the Orion. Any thoughts about that? Piloting this thing must be a real challenge i suppose. Or even harder! (I have experiences with other mechs on throwaway accounts).
I like filling as much hardpoints as possible. I do not like Clans. Tried them out plenty of times but they're not for me. So IS mechs only.
Suggestions? What would 'suit' me you think? Or would you wait for rebalance?
Thanks a bunch!
Awesomes. You want to try Awesomes.

I would never suggest you should in a BNC. People do in the 3M and LM, but you don't need to (and, speaking of bad heroes, skip the LM, it's the 3M and 3E you want).

Hunchbacks, they are a versatile chassis. Even before the quirkening, it has been my go-to chassis. Want missiles? 4J Want big ballistics? 4G or GI Want lasers/energy? 4P Want a versatile ballistic? 4H Want a versatile missile ballistic? 4SP
It's not always the number of guns you have, but how you use them.
Plus, with ballistics, energy, and missiles, the Grid Iron is like a mini-Atlas.

You are a great Atlas pilot, so you have the assault piloting know-how.
You'll be surprised by rolling the Banshees

Hunk of junk to be honest but I find that I like it
The Orion looks cool and if you role play MWO/Battletech (that means forget hit boxes, Meta, quirks and all that jazz) it should be the best IS Mech
Or on paper it looks really good and is as close to the TW as you can get
I can have a pretty good missile load out and be moving at 83 kph
I also have one that has 2 LB10xs'
If you like experimenting with load outs then take a close look at the Orion
Jager is (or was before the structure slot shell game) also good to play around with
I should also say you have to have rocks in your head to get any IS Mech (yeah we do anyways)
My current fun mechs are the Ice ferret and the Executioner (ok the Executioner is not fun but for some reason I like the hunk of junk)
I would go ahead and get some Orion’s after all it’s just a game

I refused to buy them until the Awesome received positive quirks because I though it was rude for PGI to release the Stalker and render the Awesome totally obsolete. The Stalker is one of the few BattleMechs that is designed like a combat vehicle instead of something that looks cool on a comic book page.
Once they added quirks to the game I thought it was no longer unsportsmanlike to run aa Stalker, so I bought 3. They are pretty fun and offer e very different playstyle from Atlas Mechs. Instead of focusong on use of shield-arms and brawling weapons upon closing to target, Stalkers are based on heavy-hitting firepower at all ranges and using their narrow frontal profile to avoid pinpoint damage reception.

almost any heavy is better then an orion, i wouldn't say they are a challenge so much as a test of patience.

Never expected so many replies. So many mechs to choose from!
All these kind words!
I have decided to go either with the Orion or the Banshee. But going for Banshees I think the Banshees are fairly 'in line' with other Assaults mechs and can keep up with the pack, 'meta' and other mechs in the same category.
I am not so sure if i should wait for rebalance as their sensors gets really reduced like other Assaults. I guess it's a matter of adapting and move on.
The hardpoints are good and i like the layout of the Banshee!
I will think of picking more mechs later.
But i will first focus of mastering Banshees for a while and continue to expand the collection.
I think it's wise to sit the rebalance out, but i don't think the Banshee will get hurt too much.

Hi atlas brother.
It was hard at first.... i ended my 2 year atlas only MWO.... with a..... kitfox.!
Then i could see that there is a whole new world out there... summoners, timbers, dires, phracts, Firstarters, urbies, lynxes.... everything...
but none will replace the mighty atlas for me. My S can still wreck face, My RS still melt things, and my D still shakes the battlefield.

high XL engines with many JJ's = much epic flanking. face tanking.. not so much...
highlanders are awesome too with all their structure/armor buffs.
the real struggle they have are the mixed weapons reliance but i seem to do fine with them.

Started with the Banshees today. Not the best moment to go basic in the solo que when a event is running.
Biggest brainfart i have is that the ballistic side compared with the Atlas is swapped. The Atlas has from the cockpit view the ballistic on the right side. The Banshee however got it on the left side!
I often find myself firing the wrong button because i think i am positioned and can fire my ballstics. Instead i fire my lasers...
Very fun mech to play. Hard, but fun.
I first bought the 3E. I know alot of people run the Banshee 3E with PPCS+AC5's. However i wanted to go a step further and trying to manage all the hardpoints with reasonable firepower.
I ended up with this build for the 3E. All reasonable cooling etc for a basic build. (Yes i build it myself, you may slap me in the face)
NNNNngggghhhhhh! LOL...
Nothing special. N'uhuh! Only basic! (Not very good score, but in my opinion it is a nifty one!)
Suprisingly enough i really like this build so far. I know AC/2s are underpeforming but so far i have been pretty fun with it. People don't expect seeing this on the Banshee. And if it gets ignored i just fire away. Real challenge to crank up some damage with it.
I have had this morning 100-300 damage matches aswell. Lowest one was about 75 due a brainfart. I positioned myself totally wrong and got hit in the balls.
Frustating that you see during events the whole team mentality changes. I can really feel the amount of gauss + lasers pointed to the Assaults.
Damn! This thing is harder then expected but so enjoyable.
I got a few other builds ready as well. But building is harder then expected. I dont want to use the popular builds *yet*.
Thanks for your warm replies so far!

hehe banshees can be lotsa fun.
i used to run mine with 2 ac2 + 1 lbx10 + 4 medium lasers. seemed odd but it got me 1k damage battles and other weird stuff
currently, my -3E has the obvious 3 ac5, one small laser + 2 large pulse lasers. the small laser is only in there to get the pulse lasers into the upper slots tho. i tried with 2 er ppc but goddamn... that was insanely hot o.o

But, I'm sure Banshees will work out for you as well; it's no Commando but I'm sure it has its fans
