Has anyone considered adding two minimaps side-by-side like how MechWarrior: Living Legends had it?

Posted Image

I'm all for the current minimap in terms of the reduced information that it grants the player (no facing data for other players), but the forward-facing zoomed-in minimap was far more useful for navigation and knowing where things were relative to you. Rather than a toggle, I'd rather have both maps visible at the same time using the new icons.

The UI, and this website, is crap. Do not forget that. People will always have other things to complain about because PGI always give us another reason. But you know what? PGI will "eventually" get around to fixing the UI and maybe updating this website "when they have time".

Nope. I'm not a complainer. I think this is the first time, ever, that I've written a complaint on these forums. Or on any forum for that matter.

The thing that bothers me most is that I am in the business of building software... I have a build release scheduled for tonight, as it happens. Monthly release cycle too. If I did this, pushed out such a breaking change, I'd be answering it for it in the morning. We do a week's worth of staging builds and acceptance testing before putting stuff in the wild.

This is, frankly, shocking.

Last time I said anything about a different game, I got laughed out of the forum. I like this idea though.

What mini-map? It's gone! Since it's basically unusable at this stage.

The new minimap system ruins the game, and the only thing that may happen in the long run, is that it may bring the game down completely.

The greatest issue related to the game is generally a steep learning curve, and lots of practice to maintain the skills. Most players were weak before. Now they may find themselves playing an unplayable game. An argument that we need more skill in MWO is empty - a thing clearly visible on big events, when pugs wake up and storm the servers.

Equally empty is an argument that it will lead do slower, more tactical games. You would need coherent and disciplined units for that. You would need commanders that know the game and are good at it. In a game where players dont give a flying stuff about any command, and there is few who have voip at all in the first place, this is doomed to create ridiculous chaos. I'd like to remind everyone that the matches rarely lasted longer than a few minutes before. Now its just too quick to begin with.</p>

And finally, for a simulation type of game, MWO was very poor as far as 'mech controls and cockpit were concerned before. Basically you have a couple buttons to run the mech, and a few more to use weapons. Removing one of these controls will not lead to a more tactical, cooperative game.

It will degrade it into a blind, run-around shoot-fest. Please fix it.

I never complain but this is totally unacceptable. If you want to change the symbols and show the whole map, fine, but give us the ability to zoom into a 2x2 or 4x4 grid around us for brawling etc. and a toggle for things like map rotation and FOV overlay.

Come on guys, would you use a GPS in your car if it only showed the whole continent when all you need to know is if you're on the right path to your destination. Hmm here I am, seems my car is on top of Kansas. Posted Image

Right now PGI is injecting a stream of MC into Johnny's account to keep the propaganda rolling. Posted Image

It's okay to like the new changes, I mean it's 5 o'clock somewhere, time to drink!

Ok, let me be less aggressive (it is hard but I'll try) and more constructive.

Look at this brilliant piece of navigation system.
This is a minimap device.

This map allow you to know:
- that enemy mech is little bit left from you, and you just need to turn your torso slightly to target it
- where your mates are, who of them from your lance and which direction they all are moving
- in which direction legs of my mech are pointed
- which squares around me, and I could say to my mates in our TS in which direction we should go
- how much I see on the map - for example I know that enemy mech should be on my screen but terrain block my vision - and I see what exactly is blocking my vision!

Just try to think, PGI, - how much time we spend looking at this map?
LESS THAN SECOND to get all information around me on the battlefield.

Posted Image

Ok now look at this failmap.

At this moment I was clearly seen enemy mechs in front of me. So, why this map is saying that enemy mechs are on the right side from me?
You don't understand, right? Sorry, it is probably my awful English. But remember what I said before - you're look at this map less than one second! You has no time to stare at it - map is not a beautifull girl - and you on the damn battlefield!
What the hell is happening around me?
I don't care what is happening on the other side of the map!
I need to know what the hell is happening in maximum of 1km distance from me!
If I need to know what is happening on the other side of the map, I'll open full battlegrid and get this information.

In which direction my mates moving?
In which direction legs of my mech are pointing?
How much map space is seen in my screen?
How many enemy mechs here? Oh yeah... A LOT!!!! LOOOOL WEEEEEEEE RUUUUN FOREST RUUUUUUN!!!!!! ESCAPE!!! PRESS ALT+F4 TO EJECT!!!

Facedesk, even my English is better than this new minimap!

Ok... just in case everyone didn't hear... PGI is making changes to the minimap via hotfix in the very near future. Changing the zoom level and... I think I read this right, reverting to rotating with the player. A zoom toggle to come a bit later.

So... I guess folks can stop freaking out now.

We don't need it removed.

But we need the old one restored, with the new map as added functionality can toggle to as needed.

Please not another button I've got to squeeze in for a toggle... how about a compromise such as this?

Losing the ability to see enemy facing on the minimap is fine. The zoom level should have come as an option. As it currently stands it is very nearly useless.

I never weigh in here, but I'm just going to go on record for saying, yes. I hate the minimap. It'll either get fixed or it won't. I'll still play this fantastic FREE TO PLAY game. Let's take a moment to address the real problem. To much whining and complaining by a bunch of know it all immature *******. You will most likely never play a game where everything goes your way all the time. If you do please enlighten me to this gaming world. Until then stop screaming and bossing in peoples ear and riding PGI for every little decision. It's a difficult spot they are in and I for one think we have a fantastic product at a fantastic price. Play and let play already. For ****'s sake.

oh btw bishop, can you explain why there is no 50 - 55 tons mech (except the nova) smaller than the new catapult?

already have explained it. Because they all are. Volume. It's a wonderful, 3D thing. You should know that better than most.

Height, Width, Depth. Contours. Dead Space, Negative Space.

Crazy how all that works.

Mind you the lack of any Fuselage Torso'd Chickenwalkers in the 55 ton bracket to compare with it......

If all mechs were 2D cardboard cutouts, you'd be sooooo onto something though.
