Frozen postage stamp you mean?

It's a beautiful map that needs to be 6-10 times larger.

Minimum.

I think PGI is moving in the right direction with maps, so long as they keep building maps similar to Polar. Making maps this big actually makes scouting a thing. Frozen Postage Stamp (what I'll call it from now on thanks to you) has ZERO scouting, minimal sniping, and rarely sees flanking movements. The grand strategy I've seen on most maps is run to the same place every time and brawl. Even Alpine turns into this and it's on the bigger side of the maps.

I'm definitely loving the fact that I can run full speed for a minute before I need to worry about seeing anyone. It gives you a lot more time to develop a strategy. Now if only PGI would get to work on making it easier for lance/company commanders to manage their units. This game is definitely going in the right direction IMO.

no... sadly.

I still wish they'd do what I'd said, take a map, make a day, night, and weather/other version. We instantly triple the maps we have.

I hate this new map, I run brawler builds with AC20 and SRM, in every other map, you can some make them work, even in Alpine, you keep out of sight and start smashing thing when it becomes knife fight.

In this map this is not posisble, either you have 400+ range or you suck.

So I never choose this map, when some LRM losers vote for it, I just apologize from the team and leave the match i can't waste 10 mins of my life for this map to be bombarded from the enemy that I never saw and Raven 2L that pocking from 1km.

Sounds like a L2P issue. Hope your account gets banned.

Just man up and play through it when Polar pops up and keep a box of tissues handy.

Some of the posts here remind me of EVE when they make changes to gameplay and balance. One thing you learn quickly there is that balance does not mean everybody can do everything, at least without putting in a lot of time or having alts that is, you pretty much have to work together to cover the functions you can't do on your own. An effective fleet needs scouts, tacklers, dps, ewar, etc.

This map reinforces that need for teamwork and diversity.

I love Polar Highlands. You don't need LRMs to beat it, you do need more than Medium lasers though so it encourages players to build more versatile and less brawl boated mechs. It changes everything. Change is good this time.

Know what would be cool? Build a mirror image... so to speak... of the map on the other side of Jenner alley and then put the spawn points on either side. Conquest, you can put them in a diamond with all three in the middle with no way to see or fight the other without leaving the point so if you just deathball theta, you lose... just like Polar or old Alpine conquest. But two urban areas with a large open space in the middle with minimal cover or lots of cracks and crevaces for the glaciers. A grand time.

Also, fun aside, note the drop in top speed due to torso loss.

Git Gud Gyrok.

Really liking this map, PGI did a good job on this.

An added benefit, we get to see who really does suck at this game, because if you can't figure out how to avoid LRMs, and think this map is terrible,...well then actually, you are. The map takes away terrain advantages and basically provides an even playing field for pilots to succeed, or fail. Seeing some LRM use at higher Tiers even, but not much, and it's not making or breaking the games, the lack or presence of organized firing lines has been the deciding factor.

More like the best map ever!

The spirit of older MW maps lives on in polar, if you hate polar then you hate MW spirit.

And the map is FAR too hard to nascar on and if you do nascar on it you'll lose 100% of the time all the time.

The one map where it's super bad to fight in the middle and outskirts is where the most fun brawls happen.

Pure LRMboats get to fully spread their wings here.

People finally have a reason to bring AMS.

Scouts can truly scout and do grid callouts to key a good flank.

Would you like to 1v1, you in the brawler vs my raven?

Wow. Literally the "you don't agree? 1v1 fite me" meme.

Good thing it's a game of 12v12 and I ended up pointing all the enemy at my LRM launches last game.

The two brawlers we had ended up getting around their line (because unless you're in a corner, you can't stop that on this map) and ended up using their own cover to wreck their way down the entire left flank for 4 kills.

Streakcrow and an SRM/laser Awesome. The Awesome lived through the entire match to boot and kept flushing enemies out for me to paste, so they probably had a chance for 6 that game but for my LRMs getting killshots.

I was the only one on the team with LRMs, BTW.

Brawlers cannot go straight at a team on this map or they'll get focused down. Go wide. Always.

My builds works fine %90 of the maps, thx, if PGI wants to give some cookie to LRM fanatics it is Ok, they are free to do so, I am also free not to play that map also.

Its not the map or build its you that doesnt work on this map.
Lots of brawlers do well on the map, i had a lot of fun with a 55kph smr/lpl kc. Got two kills with the srms, got killed by a srm/ac20 atlas after that.

Much to learn, you still have, little mechwarrior. ;)

Every mech scout LRM boat had a role thats what this new map reminds me to do when playing.

Complaining about Polar is like complaining about how easy you were getting killed by LRMs.

This map is by far worse than Alpine.

It's wide open, no where to hide.. Took my LRM boat on it to get my 2x xp.. Without even breaking a sweat i did over 1200 dmg. Did you guys seriously think a flat map is a good idea?
there is nothing wrong with the map. There is plenty of trenches and small hills to hide behind as you move up on the map. If people don't want to use the cover given and stay out in the open, it's their fault for giving others free kills. Play smarter and you'll play well on this map. The problem is everyone has gotten spoiled to having a million things to hide behind for cover on the other maps. Not every battlefield is going to have lots of cover and we all should get used to having varied battlefields to fight on.

We need more open maps just as we need more close quarters brawling maps. Verity is good for the game.

Suck it up buttercup. We don't always get to go to war under ideal conditions! You fight where you're told to, not where you'd like to.

Hmm... I seem to remember our unit being given the chance to prepare our gear to match the environment before we were deployed. We knew where we were heading. Generally guys wouldn't pack polar kit for a tropical deployment. MWO doesn't give you that option.

It gives more incentives for a mixed loadout. Battlemechs aren't supposed to be refitted on a mission basis. Even though the mechlab is quick and easy it actually would take weeks to months in game to significantly change equipment.

Want to keep it lore friendly? Give Omnimechs the ability to choose preset loadouts before the game but not IS or Clan battlemechs. Not sure how you'd balance that out in the PUG queue but...

Maybe a reduction in earnings or something if they chose to change their loadout right before the match? Somebody has to pay the techs...
