Based on the overwhelming positive reactions to the new map, PGI leaked this photo of their next public queue map:

I thought this ap was going to be LRM paradise too but the reality is even with a nearly perfect map like this one LRMs are still horrible.

From 600m+ even if the lrmer has target decay, you have plenty of time to back down into the trench and lose lock simply due to how slow lrms are.

By the time the fight closes to the 400m sweetspot of lrms, it'll be over faster than the lrmer can put out any significant damage. Maybe 500 points of spread damage and 1-2 kills, but how is that better than a regular direct fire mech?

This is true for nearly all maps, cover or no.

Personally loving the new map. It's a breath of fresh tactics and little used skills like scouting. Narcing is even more fun and meaningful. No rushing to the same central feature. Could go on and on. I really am enjoying the longer match lengths as the lances jockey for best position.

Overall, brilliant job on the new map.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see LRMs as a DPS (or high damage) weapon in the first place. Certainly not one I'd rely on to actually poop on the enemy team. I see LRMs as suppressing fire. They're like rockin twin AC2s or AC5s. You're not supposed to do a lot of damage but, if used properly, you'll keep the other team's heads down. LRM boats should be used to keep the enemies from moving while your main forces get into position.

All that being said, I had no problems dodging LRMs on this map. And if OP wants to complain about high damage games being boring then let me know when you're on. I'll take my Adder and shove PPCs so far up your missile tubes you'll beg for a 1200+ game again.

only real dps lurms are mass lrm5's on chainfire maybe a vulture with 4 lrm10's and two fives or other variations, but imo clrms do better in a dps sense because they stream instead of firing en masse although i've seen many a stalker doggedly harrasing mechs with constant lrm15 fire from 4 launchers

side note on the adder as you mention above.. try it with either an lbx-20 or and clan ultra-10... no one expects the spanish inquisition

All I'm saying is I love LRM boats. Find me a nice stalker with all LRMs and maybe a ML or two and I'll have myself a nice little picnic. Even in a light.

I think a lot of players are enjoying the new map, pretty sure it's here to stay, and that's alright with me.

Agreed. That's why I left my ADR-Prime almost stock. Twin PPCs make people think twice about facing me down. Well, as long as they don't realize I'm a light Posted Image

I have decided to start a new troll tactic. Every time I get above a +3 vote I am going to take a lrm boat or 700m plus high mount mech and go vote for this map.

I do not mind a lower ttk, but an extremely low time before 1/2 my weapons get in range is not good for polite comms, and on this map it is not worth finding the enemy while others rack in the damage.

I have started just charging to die at the 10min mark. I guess it is not reportable suicide if you throw yourself at the enemy while not locking them.

This map is by far worse than Alpine.

It's wide open, no where to hide.. Took my LRM boat on it to get my 2x xp.. Without even breaking a sweat i did over 1200 dmg. Did you guys seriously think a flat map is a good idea?

You moron. This map is very very good. You are a player who needs to just stop playing the game if you hate this map.

Silly man.

There's so many lurmboat options now that a new map isn't going to lure people. And early adopt ended Dec 31st anyway, so it's all nostalgia.

Nope. You're just a sterling example of why tier rating is nothing more than a glorified exp bar. And thanks for the free kills,

Why?

It's obvious his EXP bar is far from full, because he's whining about the third worst weapon system in the game.

Wow. A single map where LRMs are almost.... ALMOST balanced to the Laservomit meta and people lose their minds.

God help you if they take away your DF perfect convergence crutch too.

New term for you all.

L2D.

Learn To Duck.

Lots of fun on this map for anyone who can use the minimap to navigate, find the low areas and approach the enemy in this interconnecting mesh of trenches and cover. Otherwise, guess what? It's like playing on the ocean map in World of Warships where there is ZERO features. Just flat open water. First team detected, and with the fewest destroyers pumping out smokescreens is in trouble.

Same principle here in many many ways.

LRM's get nerfed to oblivion because people are too stupid to learn to avoid them, so any map which makes LRM's usable must be removed too...
