I said I would buy this one, and I still plan to. But... did anyone not laugh out loud when they saw the price for this thing? Because this is hilarious. Oh, PGI prices, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
- Like Milocinia said, $80 dollars would get you 12 Origin IIC mechs, with 4 C-bill boost mechs.
- The price for the 45 ton Phoenix Hawk is the same as the 75 ton Marauder, despite having a lower C-bill value. The C-bill argument was kind of the whole point why Clan mechs are more expensive than IS mechs.
- The Unseen were originally priced higher than previous mechs, but PGI defended this by saying that a potential lawsuit would be very expensive. And while it's pretty clear that no lawsuit is coming after the first 4 mechs have been released, they're still keeping the price up. The excuse is growing thin.
- If you pay $85, you get a total of 7 different mechs, of which there are 3 with C-bill bonuses. If you pre-ordered Resistance and got the $60 package, you got 12 different mechs, of which there were 3 with C-bill bonuses.
I could probably go on, but I've got things to do. I'm looking forward to see any kind of rational explanation for the increase in prices. On account of it being a 45 ton mech, I was expecting a $15 base package, $30 collectors and maybe $10 per hero mech. But nah.
Definitely not getting the "Super Whale combo". Will need to look closer at the alternatives. Maybe the $20 base pack will be enough. The Hero mechs look great, but none of the C-bill bonus mechs have any custom geometry. And the Hero mechs don't have any torso hardpoints at all. The 'Roc' will probably get disarmed a whole lot if you equip missiles on it. And I'm not sure what you would do with the Kuroi Kiri, other than boating lasers. 2 MGs? Not a big deal. 2xAC2? The Blackjack is probably going to be a much better AC2 carrier.
For a lot of mediocre choices, they really went crazy with the prices, if you ask me. Best value is probably just base pack + reinforcements.
