LOL $15 dollars for 45 ton hero mechs with average to bad hardpoints. No savings for the ultimate pack. Well nothing about this looks good. I will wait for c bill release!

Unfortunately I am in total agreement. I have put more than enough into PGI's coffers and paid for the early access to every 'Mech up until now. I am happy for all those that have waited so long for this particular 'Mech, however enough is enough for me. Too much, too soon and not enough visible value I'm afraid.

I said I would buy this one, and I still plan to. But... did anyone not laugh out loud when they saw the price for this thing? Because this is hilarious. Oh, PGI prices, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
  • Like Milocinia said, $80 dollars would get you 12 Origin IIC mechs, with 4 C-bill boost mechs.
  • The price for the 45 ton Phoenix Hawk is the same as the 75 ton Marauder, despite having a lower C-bill value. The C-bill argument was kind of the whole point why Clan mechs are more expensive than IS mechs.
  • The Unseen were originally priced higher than previous mechs, but PGI defended this by saying that a potential lawsuit would be very expensive. And while it's pretty clear that no lawsuit is coming after the first 4 mechs have been released, they're still keeping the price up. The excuse is growing thin.
  • If you pay $85, you get a total of 7 different mechs, of which there are 3 with C-bill bonuses. If you pre-ordered Resistance and got the $60 package, you got 12 different mechs, of which there were 3 with C-bill bonuses.
I could probably go on, but I've got things to do. I'm looking forward to see any kind of rational explanation for the increase in prices. On account of it being a 45 ton mech, I was expecting a $15 base package, $30 collectors and maybe $10 per hero mech. But nah.

Definitely not getting the "Super Whale combo". Will need to look closer at the alternatives. Maybe the $20 base pack will be enough. The Hero mechs look great, but none of the C-bill bonus mechs have any custom geometry. And the Hero mechs don't have any torso hardpoints at all. The 'Roc' will probably get disarmed a whole lot if you equip missiles on it. And I'm not sure what you would do with the Kuroi Kiri, other than boating lasers. 2 MGs? Not a big deal. 2xAC2? The Blackjack is probably going to be a much better AC2 carrier.

For a lot of mediocre choices, they really went crazy with the prices, if you ask me. Best value is probably just base pack + reinforcements.

Sure, you can go fast, but eight tons for up to three lasers and two machine guns means that speed will be the ONLY thing you have. Basically, a heavier, slightly faster, and slightly better armed Spider.

Prizes are going out of mind indeed.

Recently I bought only the Black Widow, 'cause I'm a Nat sibko, and this one, 'cause it's alwauys been my go to medium in BT...

I think it will be very very improbable I'll buy something again with this prices...

I love how selective people get when they complain about prices. Price of a single pack has been $20 for a while now, no matter size. Tiny urbanmech with aenemic early adopter rewards? Same price as the marauder, kodiak etc etc and now phoenix. Do people compare it to the urbanmech though? No, they go to the big guns because they support their argument better. Premium time on these single releases are a way better value than the bigger packs. With them you had to spend $60 to get 30 days and $80 for $60. With the individual packs you get 30 for $20 and can get 60 for $40.

Were the big bundles a better value at the top tiers? Maybe, but they resoundly sucked at the bottom tier (no premium time, always only a light mech, hero mechs not an option at any price point, a la carte for the other sizes adding a $15 premium with no perks). Since i rarely if ever will splurge on the full kit out, i quite like this approach and hope they stick with it.

Undecided if i will get this as i just got kodiak and bought $50 in mc when they were offering the jenner mastery bundle with it, but if i do i will get the base pack and then post release pick up the roc if i really like the platform (cause that paint scheme just screams awesome to me).

About as fearsome as the XL390 Centurion. Big engines and few hardpoints is a bad combo.

Not very surprised with PGI's pricing. They used to tier their pricing to make you pay x amount per ton and now a 100 ton mech costs the same as a 45 ton mech. But they have very little incentive to buy the 2 extra variants.

For the Basic set you get 3 mechs for $6.67 each + early adopter goodies.
Hero mechs aren't a bad deal at $15 each.
Then the last 2 for $7.50 each with no additional early adopter bonuses which can be bought for c-bills 3 months later doesn't make sense, especially if you have to buy the Basic Set in order to be able to purchase them.

Then the Ultimate Pack has no additonal discounts at all for a bulk purchase for $85 other than saves you wasted time for individual transactions.

You, PGI, will make some profit for this release but you won't capture as much revenue as you could've due to your aggressive pricing.

With that said I will still make a purchase but you are definitely not allowing those in tighter financial situations to be able to afford certain items. Kudos for at least not jacking up the basic set price of $20.

I would probably drop the engine down and try to Wub a bit more, like an LPL and 2 MPLs or something. Hopefully it will have a cooldown quirk of some kind.

Your looking at it the wrong way. The price point was set for a 75 ton mech. So you get 100 tonners for the price of 75 tonners. Unfortunately, you also get 45 tonners for the price of 75 tonners.

well, considering PGI somehow made light mechs fully capable of standing against assaults... i guess i can see how that works, from that perspective

from the perspective of a BT/MW fan - its kind of nuts... both light performance and the price

Unfortunately PGI doesn't get my money at that price point, and I wager quite a few other folks will also pass that might have chipped in cold hard cash if they'd priced them accordingly. But, is what it is. It's a game after all, and everyone's got their differing price points. I'll just wait and see if PGI lowers the prices, as I reaaaaally want to get them early, but....cannot bring myself to do so at those prices.

Where's the incentive to buy the ultimate pack?

In my opinion there are two ways to go about it:

- include the reinforcement pack for free, because since you already bought five (expensive) mechs and the collector's edition, it is just fair to complete your collection

- free upgrade to the collector's edition. Because, if you've bought every single mech available, you're obviously a collector.

Sorry PGI. Kodiak Reinforcements seemed like a hefty cashgrab, this pack is utterly hilarious.

And not even an incentive for those which've bought every single IS classic collection to round it out.

All in all, this mechpack is a no-no.
