I'm a single player gamer. PGI has taken my favorite single player game franchise and force-fed me a multiplayer game. Before closed beta started accepting players, we used to have a news-feed, and community warfare was promised to be an immersive experience to make us feel like a part of each faction. Quick-play was supposed to be the "Instant Action" compared to the "Campaign". The bag of chips compared to the meat and potatoes of what the game was supposed to be.
In the time between Mechwarrior 4 and now, I pursued the Battletech universe. I got to know how it works, read the sourcebooks... If anything, I wanted a more immersive, more compelling game universe.
This game is slowly distancing themselves from that.
I would rather have a memorable, immersive, entertaining game that was short, than a grind that lasts forever... where I play because there's a special event that will make the grinding less unbearable.
It's way too late for PGI to make this title into the game I'd wanted or imagined, but every now and again they should throw the single player fans and fans of the lore some sort of bone. Ideally something that wasn't promised 4 years ago and they're only getting to now (can you say "Decals"?). If you're going to take a long-running franchise of single player gaming and then make it NOT THAT, at least don't throw the players of every other Battletech/MechWarrior title up to now under the bus.
