And this is why i cant stand 99% of the current player base.
Too busy basing a mech on what it can do and what it is already over what they want it to do. EG, be the next meta beast.
The assassin is the bottom of the medium scale, like the cicada.
it has speed over weapons and armour, the loadout in TT meant it was a cheap fighter at all ranges, LRM5, SRM2, Medium laser.
Its not meant to be a front line fighter, its not meant to be a full time light hunter.
It's a lance filler. But it's fast enough and maneuverable enough that it does perform as a lightweight Medium scout.
PGI have put their spin on it. And it looks ok, though I think the ct/cockpit probably just too far forward over what it should be. but that's just me.
But unless folks had to run it stock, they will never appreciate the changes that they can do with it. Period.
People need to remember that a lot of these designs were made so as to give infill between the better more useful weighted mechs, for the Tabletop game.
Where your drop weight/battle value dictated what you could take.
Where you'd fill out a lance with big hitters and would then chuck in something while not being a complete waste of tonnage/BV, isnt going to be a complete waste of space.
At the moment, for us longtime players, its not viable because we have the mechs we think are best for how we play.
For new players who haven't dived in and bought what everyone else is running just to be like them, its good way to get a set of mechs that you can crack on and get the elite status for them without having to Cbill one to Basic, wait till you can buy a second then a third so you can do the same and move on to the next stage of XP'ing them.
I don't think it will be worth it, aside from the "hero" mech with its ecm, because that will fall in nicely with the hide and go peak crowd that prefer to stay hidden while they strip you and generally be annoying as all hell, while in game, don't form any real asset to their team.
You know, the douchebags who sit on the wall in their ECM shadowcats and ER LL or ER PPC you and then blend into the background because at 700mr+ you can't see them in Heatvision mode or nightvision mode...
Not the guys who are actually doing it so they can let their team know where the enemy is, the ones who are out for their own kill score.
Perhaps if PGI could spend time bringing some interesting campaign type modes to this game, where say you run a historic battle taken from TT. Not tukayid, but say one which relies on you have certain mechs to take part or at least have something of the same tonnage to use in place of it. Something that isn't an event
Then buying all the mechs would be something worth doing.
For now, the Assassin is something that looks good, and does have some decent enough hardpoints, if you wish to run them. And when used in FP, it will allow you to use tonnage elsewhere, on bigger, more survivable mechs.
Me, I'm not buying it because It would just frustrate the hell out of me to run it against the same old mechs day in day out. Those which do perform better because of their tonnage, hardpoint position, speed, armour, whatever the case may be.
