Wait a minute........

I am actually expected to play the game ?!

I can't get all 75 skills points in under an hour ?!

This is the last straw ! You have mocked me for the last time PGI ! I'll show you !

Someone hand me my phone so I can call all my friends and complain...

I'm still a bit lost over this whole new concept. If I no longer need to buy 3 mechs to master a chassis then all the work my OCD self did in mastering 160+ crappy mechs just so
I can see them with a gold icon in my skill tree is for nothing. Why would I ever level the dogs again? All I need to do is buy the FOTW and level it with my insane refunded "special" XP, Please help.

Very clever. Now we may not need to buy 3 mechs to Master, but we will be buying lots of the same chassis to give each of them "specialization." Unless, if we want to respec, which will cost time and money.

What I foresee is that players will no longer be insenstivised to try different loadouts continuously, why should I if I have to grind through a respec everytime? I might as well just skill up the meta builds and use it perpetually.

With the new upcoming skill system, is it for certain that we no longer will need 3 mechs to master a chassis? Has this been confirmed?

I bet you that after fully mastering a mech ''skill tree'' it will have equal or less ''quirks'' than with the same one on the current quirk system

Judging by the part of a screenshot, uac bonus lesser jam chance is four nodes of 0.025 each. Which is, what, 0.1% (one tenth of a single percent)? How's that gonna help if you nerfed clan dakka up to 17% jam chance on doubleshot?

Also... I don't see any actual heat reduction "quirks". This, plus future power draw system. WAT.

PGI, wat r u doing? PGI? PLS! STAHP.

As far as Russ said, if he is to be believed, you can deselect nodes instead of a total reset, so if you only plan to change weapon quirks that might end up costing you as much as half of the xp needed to basic->elite now so about 13K xp and ??? amount of cbills to respec weapons.

As it seams from the preview, I will always take seismic, armor and structure, speed tweek and torso twist , the rest might be weapons and cooling so if you consider the "good" quirks not that many should go for things build specific.

Sure wish I hadn't converted the millions of XP I had across various chassis...

Finally, my 4 Million XP on my PB will be good for something.

I don't get it, this is actually worse than what we have now. For all its flaws, the current system does have a good balance between mastery of individual mechs and overall mechwarrior skill, whereas this new system is focused entirely on mastery of individual mechs. Honestly, if you got rid of modules and kept everything else the same you'd please everyone.

Yeah, it seems like those are *mandatory* skill nodes everyone will choose. Anyway, I'm interested to see how this plays out. I think I currently have 158 or so mechs, but the majority of them I wouldn't buy again. I do kind of like the idea of having to grind fewer mechs to reach mastery level.

I love the idea of being able to customise my mechs and make specific skill tree builds / quirk builds for all sorts of odd and funky stuff (I like playing about trying new loadouts)
However the placeholder information that we got has me worried slightly, I seriously hope this is "customise quirks and mechs your way" and not "were nerfing everything and you will now be more limited"

PLEASE... for the love of god... leave the Commando 2D alone. It's literally the only mech that has me playing the game again.

They actually promised to do a write up before chistmas... well.. didnt happen.
My bet is that the first update we'll get will be with the PTS... after which the new skill system will be shelfed just like info warfware and energy draw.

It used to be in the "Roadmap for January, February, and Beyond" post, but it looks like there was an edit.

"A post was initially planned for release prior to the PTS, but with changes and improvements to the Skill Tree build still underway, a post coinciding with the PTS will be more reflective of the build you'll see."

I would think there would be at least a separate forum post calling attention to the change, but oh well.

Hmm... I don't trust this at all, especially not from PGI.
