I like to something like this.
open green for brawling, long street for snipe, river for cover and cooling, circle platform for LRM superiority over 1/4 of the map.

Every role will be useful here.

Looks awfully vulnerable to visigoth attacks.

Big urban map + destructible buildings is a must. While LRM pretty much will be useless in this map. At least destroyed buildings can make some room for LRM.

LRMs can be useful if there are a few open areas or if the LRMer keeps a good line on the enemy. source: MechWarrior 4

Needs to have a variety of encounter area, to stop the map from being coming BrawlWarriors Online.

Why? Whats wrong with one "brawlwarriors" map?

We have enough "Snipewarriors Online" maps already, or "Highmountwarriors Online" maps. These are positively overflowing.

Maybe if they had more maps like this urban one the OP has proposed, that made brawling inevitable rather than situational, all these cheesy, dogshite players that can only function when sniping someone from behind a rock, on a hill, 600M+ away with large lasers, will not only get wrecked, but will have to embrace a new aspect of MWO and maybe OMFG CHANGE THEIR ERLL BUILDS!

Just like me, who favours brawling over everything. I HAVE to adapt to that dull and crappy playstyle to be competitive. So why shouldnt ranged players have to do the same for brawl maps?

give my urbie playing field to keep the stock engine and still be useful so I can just mount the heaviest guns I can to harass people or kill them

Urban does not necessarily mean brawl map. Considering the experience I have played in urban maps on other games, a tank can snipe from one end of the street or another. They can literally wait hiding in one corner with their cannon sticking out, and the poor joes attacking and when attempting to cross the street --- wham. Sometimes when the attackers are literally stopped in their tracks, the street gets clogged with fresh juicy targets --- then bam, bam and bam, multiple kills.

Look at the given urban maps shown. Nice long lanes, good for sniping down the street.

Worst, is when --- as many players seem to want --- to have maps that are multi level, and not straight flat ground. When you have an urban map with areas that have higher elevation, those higher elevation areas automatically turn into sniper positions. Mechs with jump jets can jump to the top of lower buildings and use them as sniper positions.

Large rivers and valleys always lead to sniping in MWO. Grim Plexus, River City, Frozen City, there's so much sniping over that open ground. I just think it's time to try something new.

My problem with the current maps is not that there's snipe city, but that there's often not a lot of options for approaching and disengaging from snipe city.

I wouldn't really mind there being a park or river for the LRM boats to hide on the edge of, if there was a route I could use to sneak up to them, and a dense forest of buildings for me to get lost in when the team shows up to rescue their LRMer.

'course a pure brawl map would be fine, but you could also do something a little more varied that I'd still be pretty happy with.

Yes! And not only Urbanmechs! But other slow light mechs, like the brawler Adder and Kit Fox and... Cougar!

In some tank games, a direct hit from an anti-tank weapon (like APDS or APFSDS on a main battle tank) means that you're either dead or nearly dead. In other games, you're at least severely damaged. There are rather few realistic tank games where a perfect hit from anti-tank weapons barely bring you down to 80-90%, but that's how it goes in MWO. You can hit many mechs flush with Gauss+2PPC and it won't even turn their armour red, much less kill them.

Sniper-controlled firing lanes are only really effective when there aren't a lot of alternative routes or when the weapons are really powerful, or both. So in the case of an MWO urban map, it's neither. It would be very hard to stop a brawl unless you had a bunch of quad-gauss Kodiaks.

Huge maps with no obvious bottlenecks or gathering points are needed badly.
If it's a neat urban environment, be it an occupied city or a ruined wasteland, it's doubly welcome.

Not read the whole thread, but YES please to big urban map!

We have wide open polar, lets get enclosed metropolis (maybe a few vague superheros flying around?)

LOL! Any Map that a Stock Urbie can play on will have to be kept small or all the Urbie owners will have to petition PGI to increase in game Match times to 60+ minutes for their 34kph beast on even a medium sized (34km x 34km (wink wink)) Urban map. LOL! LOL! ;) OMG!

February bump!

We need a big urban map in 2017, to soothe our minds in this time of political strife and environmental change!

This was started almost exactly a year ago. It also includes a poll for an big urban map!

Xengk's map is what should be the kind of map the final battles in FW should be fought over, not some nonsense with a gun
