So round two of the debate series! This time we got two Spheroids going at it!

In the red corner we have the esteem assault from the east, 90 tons of new omni tech, we have the Sunder!

In the blue corner, the destroy for Davion, the defender of suns, 85 tons of Devine engineering, the Templar!

Discuss the fight! (Keep it civil)

Both mechs if they follow established Omnimech rules have fixed Inner Sphere XL engines.

The sunder is likely to be easy to isolate the side torsos (blocky torso contruction)

The Templar has huge side torsos.

Both are death traps.

Are we comparing specific variants, or are we limiting this to the base models only?

What ever could be built on either. You can compare stock loadouts of the varriants if you want but also the meta of both.

Sunder, hands down. The forum agrees with me, too.

44.78% in favor of the Sunder, compared to 17.91% for the Templar.

I love the Sunder, but I hate to say it, looking through the list of Templar variants there is a lot more variety there, where as the Sunder... without made-up variants or hardpoint inflation has more or less the same 2-3 hardpoint configs. With made up variants all I needed was an arm with 2B hardpoints, but some people complained about those, so that in combination with the skill tree means my dreams of a 2 PPC, 2 UAC5 Sunder are gone :(

Hero omni usually end up with some unique pods, might get lucky. For Templar would love a LA ballistic arm to go one Ballistic per arm and have fun >.>

Also imo Templar would seem like an omni Battlemaster, thoughts?

It only has two variants with shoulder energy hardpoints... and I think the max is 3 in the left shoulder and 1 in the right shoulder, and we aren't even sure how high they are. The key to the Battlemaster's success is the 5-6 energy hardpoints that are cockpit level. The Kingfisher had a better chance of being a Clan omni Battlemaster than the Templar does.

The Sunder looks like it has the right ingrediants to be a good mech in this game.

While I was initially leaning towards the Sunder (it *is* based on 2 of my favourite Clan 'mechs) I'll have to change my thoughts to the Templar, the MW4:Mercs cover 'mech. Let me colour (or decal) those pauldrons like St. George's Cross and I'll have so much more fun Posted Image

Honestly, both could be good, the Templar would likely work like a Battlemaster in terms of Arm shields, that being said, her crit lay out sucks. Granted she's got about 40t to work with for pod space, but tons of locked up locations due to iEndo, she is how ever an efficient 85t in terms of engine to speed ratio and, should she get a JJ varient, 1t Jump Jets.

For the Sunder, I'm not sure how well those arms would protect the ST's that are vunerable due to the 360 iXL, her major advantage over the Templar, comes at the cost of weight efficiency. The Sunder is locked to standard armour and structure, meaning she is cavernous in terms of cirt space, but lacks both hard points and tonnage to effectively use all that free space.

How ever should the Sunder get a good face lift,I think she would be a serious contender for best IS assault, just as I think the Templar could get that title. I think this is a very even match up, between these two.

Urbanmech could defeat both of them, at the same time.

Well, yah. But what two mechs can't the Urbanmech take on, 1v2?

Yuck, I always hated the design of the MW4 Templar. Here's a better picture:

I do like both the Templar and the Sunder. I want to see both!
