IMO... only reason to switch to 8v8 would be if wait times get too long as player base drops.

I've never had an issue getting a game (in quick play solo)... so I don't see any benefit of a lateral movement.

The less players, the more impact each one makes, te more important matchmaking balance is. Can you ensure that 8vs8 is going to be balanced tonnage-wise, DPS-wise and everything? Can you ensure that it is not going to be a killing fest for one lucky assault every time? If not, then most probably it's not worth it.

Another point it scouting. The less players, the more important each mech is, the less expendable scouts you may have. Ergo, it's going to be less vision overall (while the maps will presumably stay the same). What's going to be the outcome of that?

not sure if this has been mentioned before or not, if so disregard. Would it be possible to make 8v8 an additional option/queue vs just modifying the 12v12? I figure this way everyone wins,

PGI's seems to be on a trend of reducing queues not increasing them

I like the idea of 8v8 but I voted Maybe.

8v8 means faster games given the diminished player base from when I last played 4 years ago.

I want to be able to jump into a game quick. And that is the sole reason why I ranked myself down from T1 to T3. I click search and jump into a game right away. At T1, it's possible to wait up to 10 minutes and that's not my idea of fun. Also, a QP match averages 5 minutes so this game is amazing if you want to jump in, have quick fun and hop out to do whatever you need.

But I voted Maybe as I wouldn't know where I stand until I try it. There are players here who say 12v12 is more fun, while there are those who stand by 8v8 as well. Do it the way some have suggested: Put this as a trial for 1 month right into the live servers. No need to split things up with a test server.

make it both available, like small map - 8v8, big 12v12, and perhaps make 16v16 (massacre is fun)

12v12 on big maps, 8v8 on small maps.
Or rework old and small maps so we won’t need 8v8.
Just as simple as that..

It makes no sense that the DWF-Prime has a greater CT armor quirk than the DWF-A. There's no other difference between their CT's, and the rest of the omnipods can be swapped.

8 vs 8 should be 8 vs 8 for group drops...

10 vs. 10 for star vs star, compared to lances. A star is 5 mechs for clan, and a lance is 4 mechs in IS... Kick quick play to 15 vs 15. Talk about insanity. Ok, maybe not! haha!!!

Since I am a carpenter by trade I have no idea if this is possible. Can we have random drop sizes? When population is low 6 v 6. Then as population increases it can go up to 20v20?

I have no opinion if there are 2 choices 8v8 or 12v12 both are fine with me.

If you are going to use a poll on 8v8, then it needs to start from scratch and be clearly sign posted from the load in screen and banners. This poll kicked off in June 2018 and no doubt includes many players who have since left.

If you are not going to re-run the poll, then according to Paul (?) it required a significant "for" vote for 8v8 to go ahead. These results show a minor swing to "no" never mind a positive "yes".

To be honest, I may be shooting myself in the foot, but I'm not an exponent of 8v8, but in the interests of it being a community driven decision, even I would push for a reboot. (Not a recount or legal challenge . . . sic.)

I will vote yes if solo queue is again a SOLO queue.

Teams can be totally decisive in 8 vs 8, and the matchmaker is not good distributing the teams randmomly. Usually you are droped again and again with the same guys.

If you do 8v8 and still allowing groups, you will have soon two or three elite players groups farming everybody else, and worse, trying to syncro every time they could.

This will empty the Solo queue very soon.

Never mind all you can do to fix the matchmaker, groups and pugs dont mix well. And if you lose the solo players, you will lose the most part of the group players.

The cruel fact is that only SOME group players want justo to have fun with friends. There are much more wanting only a good baby seal clubbing.

Its easy. Group play has a clear place: Faction mode.
The reason because all those groups dont go to faction is clear: They dont want to be massacred by the good units in FP.

So they try to massacre the pugs in SQ.
Because their fun is have a easy fight, but the fun of the pugs dont matters---

"I just want ot have fun with my friends" Good, if every grop goes to faction, everybody wins.
-There will be less wait times
-There is no tiers
- Now you have no loyalties limitations

Why not both? Some quick play matches would be 8v8 and some are 12v12. Some could even be 4v4 or 1v1 (and remove Solaris and incorporate it into this kind of quickplay matchmaking with no divisions). You could have quick play modes that use drop decks like faction play, or remove faction play altogether but keep a 12v12 drop deck mode that uses faction play maps (the galaxy map and choosing planets is a gimmick and slows matchmaking). You would set your match preferences to the kind of games you are looking for, and if the matchmaker can't find the kind of game you want after 30 seconds or so, it would look for players who want to play on your second preference of match type, then your third preference and so on. If a certain mode is unpopular it can just be removed. You want to give people choices for variety, but not divide matchmaking so much that there are never enough people to start a match.

Should reboot this poll.

I vote 8v8. I lived through the change from beta to live, 8v8 to 12v12, Pheonix drop, clan invasion, HSR implementation.......

The game was more fun in 8v8. You could move more. Nascar happened, because of a few maps and the nature of looking for the enemy, flanking, trading, not because if you got left behind you were shredded by 12 alpha strikes. Assault mechs were scarier because there wasn't 700 damage worth of alpha on the enemy team.

There is just too much firepower on the field for how the game was designed way back when, for how maps were deisgned, how mechs and the weapons wre designed vs armor, etc.

the fastest way to cut the firepower on the field is to drop 4 mechs off each team.
The benefits to matchmaker are the icing on the cake.

I actually would rally behind a new mode that involved a lance of stock mechs on each side. You are not allowed to choose your role until you die. You get two extra respawns and can select from mechs not already in the field. Give engine/torso speeds a boost and we could have a serious competitor to over watch.

Also Id like a mode where its all stock assault or all light mechs.
Or light mechs that can one shot themselves. You have no idea how much fun that is!

Considering limited resources going back to 8vs8 QP would be a blessing.

Since I value quality above quantity the switch from 8vs8 to 12v12 was the worst thing that happened to QP in my eyes.

PS: Improving matchmaking quality by making it adjustable to the user's liking would be great. For example one could allow the player to set their maximum allowed queue time before matchmaking compromises are made (regarding skill, group or tonnage mismatches etc.). I would rather wait 15 minutes in a queue than spend that time steamrolling a weaker opponent or being on the receiving end of a steamroll.
