Intentional thread necro. Maybe the devs will pay attention. They already have a Phoenix Hawk with extra armor bits. Only thing they have to do is bloat the current Phoenix Hawk model with more armor and a crap ton of missile slots.

Yeah, imagine if you made the Crusader the same overall SIZE as the Phoenix Hawk. That would be its selling point right there.

Well, that and old guys like me with Crusaders in their sig file. Posted Image

We're getting a new chassis at some point, but the Crusader would be a bad choice since it's basically a worse archer.

Well at this point, everything is essentially a better or worse version of something else that already exists, plus or minus hitboxes and quirks. The Crusader, along with the Wasp and Stinger, are the last of the original Battletech mechs to not be represented in game. Old gamers like me want them, and if they're quirked decently others will too.

Fair enough, though there are some chassis that will perform well and expand the meta.

Semi on topic about classic Mechs: what would a clint bring? It has jump jets and an ok engine size but aside from ballistic bloat to give it an angle different From the Vulcan(being more energy centric) what could it bring to be a choice over the Vulcan for 40t humanoid inner sphere Mechs? Brb gonna check resources

Edit:
Yeah maybe not. Could get maybe 3 or 4 Mechs out of it unless you add in clan IIC clients.
Most of the varients are 4.5 tons of Armor and maybe 2 of them are workable out of the box. Plus 2 or3 with unworkable tech in game. Lesigh, I'll just use a Vulcan as a proxy.

There are a lot of mechs like that. What is a Hermès, for example, except a Clint that doesn’t jump and has a flamer? And while a Valkyrie might be different enough from a Javelin to make it worthwhile, mechs like Wasp/Stinger and Ostroc/Ostsol are similar enough that you’d essentially make one mech pack out of both mechs.

You'll never stop someone from wanting their favorite thing, no matter how unimpressive or even downright crappy their favorite thing is. No amount of knowing it'd be mostly just another over-engined, undergunned pile of Clan nonsense prevents me from lusting after the Grendel with a downright perverse intensity. Errybuddy else all "why u want dis, Rei?" and Rei all "Don't TELL me what I want! if I wanna go 120kph with twelve tons of guns and Viper-level hops I'ma do just that! ...as soonas the game let's me."

Nor does the knowledge that nobody likes speed anymore stop me from similarly salivating over the Phantom, though at least in the Phantom's case it has, like...twelve canon configurations with 8+ energy, so you'll be able to stuff every micro laser ever manufactured onto one Phantom alongside ECM and its Hory Sheet-level groundspeed. Phantoms would potentially be the new Arctic Cheater - imagine something the general size of a Blackjack or Arctic Wolf with ECM and more-or-less unlimited energy hardpoints charging around at over a hundred and sixty klicks an hour after Tweak. Talk about shaking up the meta. People would have to remember how speed worked.

Nevertheless. My wanting those things with nearly sexual fervor doesn't make them good, or desirable for people other than me. Same with the Crusader - the fact that it's mostly just a Popeye-shaped Archer that brings absolutely no new, interesting, or useful capabilities to the field at all, whatsoever, isn't why people want it. They want to catch 'em all, and they can't do that without Crusaders.

Sadly, the theoretical New Chassis Piranha says they want to deliver is going to be an Inner Sphere heavy 'Mech, and it stands a good chance of being the Crapsader. Most players in this game are Sphere-side pilots by preference, and heavy 'Mechs are by far the most popular weight class. if Piranha's only going to release one more 'Mech for MWO before closing the servers down, they'd be batty not to make it a Sphere heavy and push sales. Ah well. Maybe next MechWarrior game, my poor Clan fasties...

At this point in MWO the only real reason for a new mech is the aesthetics of it. I want a mech that looks like a Clint, for example. The hitboxes and hard points and whatnot aren't going to bring anything new to the game, but it will look different. It's kinda the same deal as when the Canyon Network map was reskinned to make it into a "winter" setting. It's not really new, but it looks new, and sometimes that's enough.

Old thread and request but I'd like a Crusader also...and a Wasp/Stinger combo as well.

Nobody wants Wasps or Stingers. Not to pilot. There is absolutely no gameplay value whatsoever to either design; there is actually factually nothing either 'Mech could accomplish that another design doesn't do several times better. Yes yes, "they're both twenty-tonners that can jump!" Some points:

1.) how many twenty-ton 'Mech configurations have the tonnage for jump jets? Half a ton is a significant investment for something that miniscule - where are you going to find room for jets?
2.) The Wasp and Stinger are both significantly slower than the Lolcust. They're equally matched to the Flea's speed, but the Flea gets M.A.S.C. and also twenty times the armament of either Star League design. They have no movement, no firepower, and no special equipment. Their whole claim to fame in TT canon is "cheaper than dirt and nigh-universally available", neither of which matters in MWO.
3.) Combining both designs doesn't work - the players who want the damn things in the first place will scream if Piranha makes them effectively the same 'Mech via using the same skeleton and only doing cosmetic surface-level changes. Producing the Wasp and Stinger is the same amount of development time as developing any other two 'Mechs in the game, and wasting that on two of the weakest, lamest, most utterly worthless-in-MWO BattleMechs ever created is a giant negatory.

I'll let 'Mech Dads have their Crusader. The Crusader may be incredibly boring, but at least it's a valid combat unit. I will not stand for Wasp/Stinger nonsense - those two 'Mechs would be a true waste of Piranha's time, nobody would ever pilot them outside their initial release, and there's no reason to push for those two pieces of incidental flotsam when any given chassis we do get could very easily be our last.

Think of any given 'Mech you ask for at this point in those terms - "would I be okay with this thing being the very last new 'mech we ever get?" If you answer "yes" in regards to the Wasp or Stinger, I don't like your opinion and you should reconsider it. DX

Well you’re not wrong. Yes, the Wasp and Stinger are nostalgic and would have to be quirked to the gills to be worth playing at all. Hence the reason the thread is “Crusader”. Posted Image

To be fair, the guy I was responding to was all "yes Crusaders, and then Wasps and Stingers!"

Nuh. There's a limit to how much indulging of 'Mech Dads we can afford. The Crusader is within those limits. The stupid Wasp and Stinger are outside of those limits. Especially since people still seem to fail to realize that a twenty-ton 'Mech takes as many resources to develop and introduce as any other 'Mech, and two separate twenty-ton 'Mechs take twice that many resources no matter how similar they are.

The Clans get to do without their signature twenty-tonner forever, even though the Fire Moth would actually bring new **** to the table. The Sphere can manage without Wasps or Stingers.
