Remove "classic" Maps

Honestly, I think what would be nice with these maps are smaller group vs smaller group. Yes, I do QP, and it seems like everyone's just stepping over each other trying to get into some sort of position. I get liking "brawling" maps (and am for maps that are strong for various playstyles,) but some of these just feel like it might as well be dropping us on top of each other.

Mind you, there are features in these I like, as well, and I like the variety. I just think I'd get more enjoyment in these with a 4x4, 6x6 or 8x8 size drop. (And I don't think I've actually seen *objectives* on these maps. I haven't been keeping track but it seems like it's 100% skirmish. Though objective capturing on them might just be silly.)

One of the classic maps, frozen night? The fight happens in C4, but one side has a positioning/spawn advantage.

I'm not a huge fan of the classic Frozen City as a map but I do enjoy the chaotic nature of the fights that happen during these matches. That being said, I really like Forest Colony, way more than the updated version which has tons of useless space.

Are you trolling us or are just plain mad?

Reintroducing the old maps is probably the best thing PGI have done in two years!

Proper brawling maps not like hide and snipe crap.

If you want a map removing take HPG and polar Highlands.

Yo when since F-ing BETA has most matches not been a clusterfk, and HELL no it's gerat having them back I missed those maps, hell we need more maps now not less.

I like almost any map as long as it is not Solaris City. (even brawling there is no good.)

With the new old maps around, the chance of getting that one is now even lower.

The return of the classic maps is great, most people approve. They discourage nascar, it's a good change of pace, and you get almost instant action on those. Posted Image

Brawl lovers say - Classic maps are great! Yes please!

Non-brawlers (Lurmers, snipers, mid range people, poptarters, harrasers, skirmishers, pokers) say - classic maps suck, remove them!

Result?

PGI makes a new mech.

LRMs can be difficult because the maps are tight. So you can't just sit in one spot and not expect to have to reposition. A similar issue can happen to sniper builds but both the maps have some excellent fire lanes for sniper builds to overwatch.

Skirmishers can and do perform very well. I would take a light knifefighter on the classic maps over a map like mining collective or Solaris City any day. The later two maps in particular can frequently force a retreat down a long lane with no means of breaking LOS or finding cover. Skirmishers should approve of these maps (we even named an area of Frozen City classic the "Jenner Highway" because of how well skirmishing mechs could exploit this terrain feature to gain advantage.)


Harassers are skirmishers basically so redundancy is redundant...

Pop tarting and poke are means of employing a tactic to a sniper or mid ranged build so not really mech builds unto themselves but a means to use a mech build. And let's face facts Frozen City is great for this sort of tactic except once again you may need to move.

the classic maps are a mixed bag. i enjoy certain types of builds: flanking sniper, LRM (pre-nerf can't use now even at med range), 2nd line support. the builds i HATE to play: backstabber, face to face brawler, slow anything. Classic Forest colony is great, has some open ranges, altitude deviations, plenty of cover for everyone (not as much in water), just good clean fun at a faster pace.

the classic frozen city though, oh god i hate that map it is becoming my new most hated map. even with my play style i dislike polar and solaris is objectively terrible, but gods do i hate this map. on one side you have multi-height buildings for days providing massive amounts of cover. on the other side you have a wrecked plane and thats about it. unless the other side waits for the other team to funnel to the plane thats all they get. as for flanking? forget that on edge is a windy tunnel, the other is a lowground. just above the lowground is a small raised ridge with 1(!) spire to hide near and is well within 600m to shoot/be shot. within 600m your poke/flank mech might as well be paper because you need JJs to get on the ridge in an appreciable time and has to be small enough to walk around back of the 1 spire. that means a med/light mech, neither of which has much armor and at 600m most brawlers will rip through your armor like paper.

i have taken to picking the least terrible option that won't win in QP to prevent going to classic frozen when it comes up and dumping my modifier into a different map. i got up to a 12x modifier once.

Sadly after what, 2.5 weeks - it is still going.

Even on Frozen Classic. Teams are rotating into B4 from Team 1 side and then all of a sudden, 2-12 because they just rotated into a killbox with no high ground and are totally surrounded. Tell my teams each and every game not to do it - somehow 4 Assaults end up there and totally unable to control any of the map further than about 50m and instant loss.

I would like to rephrase what I said earlier - I think it won't take a month... It'll be a hell of a lot longer.

Not really.

Frozen is quite dynamic and balanced, albeit differently, from both sides - provided - people don't rotate.

Once you rotate on Frozen Classic, Team 1 is fighting an uphill battle to win.

Disagree.

The classic maps are fun and add a flavor to the game when played.

The OP can just vote for some other map, and never has to vote for these.

Leave 'em in!

(but increase the rotation rate of Alpine please, I hardly ever get to play on it, and it's my favorite map.)
