I know! It's stupid!

I want chainsaws and the mohawk to stay on until the components they are attached to, fall off. If the LA falls off, then the left chainsaw should fall off. Why give a bolt-on a stupid hit-box and 1 hp?

Also, if someone were to add nipple rings and a gimp mask for the Atlas, Kiiyor would spend some money.

It's puzzling that you don't get why. Either PGI wouldn't sell any because it would increase the size of hitboxes or be used to shield.
It is working exactly how it should.

otoh and in my personal opinion they don't really belong in battletech, at least outside of solaris (and there it's questionable, at least). kinda kills what little immersion we have when I see an atlas or anni with a club on the back, or a dinosaur-skull, or something, the lore-nerd in me rolls his eyes.
I won't complain, cause we can toggle them off, yay.

just stating that they're just wasted dev-time imo.

No, it's puzzling as to why bolt-ons need a hitbox in the first place. You aim for the bolt-on, you don't do damage. Players would've instantly realized that. Then the bolt-ons would've been a cosmetic item worth buying 'cause they'd stay on through the fight as long as the components they're attached to, don't fall off. Now what we have a gigantic waste of money that serves no purpose 'cause in battle, if they get hit, the mech remains unharmed and the look is gone instantly.

Would be worse if you couldn't shoot it off. If anything, it's more entertaining to have it fall off and took more work to make it happen as well (to add the hitboxes)

If bolt-ons just didn't take damage at all, then it'd be possible to ghost-tank with them. Some of the bolt-ons do a pretty good job of obscuring the component underneath, and not everyone actually knows where all of the hitboxes are on every 'Mech, so we'd end up with a lot of folks missing shots because they either aimed for the bolt-on, or couldn't see the component it was mounted on well enough to target it. While that's mostly a "git gud" problem, it still is a problem... or would be, anyway. Even if it's a marginal defense against only some players, it's one that would cost no tonnage and no slots, while also being paywalled. Sillier things have driven metas in games before.
I still have them on a bunch of 'Mechs, because some of them genuinely look good (thinking mainly of the Zeus fins, and the swords and hatchets on certain 'Mechs)... and some of them get funny reactions at the start of a match, if they look ridiculous enough.
