Interesting that Megaupload specifically gets hit, yet sites like Demonoid remain untouched.

I guess allowing copyrighted material doesn't get you into too much trouble, but promoting it crosses the line?

We have a saying in my country, "Take front before front takes you."

From what I understand, Demonoid filed an injunction very quickly.

Perhaps they wouldn't have to. Given how much opposition to these laws there is specifically among the sector of people who generally follow E3, any bad publicity on this issue for them is going to be really bad publicity.

Neither E3, nor their gaming sponsors want to alienate their customer base.

Ok so PIPA and SOPA are down and out, thats two out of the big three. ACTA is still active, and this one is even more sneaky because for you Americans, it breaks your 4th Amendment.

Here we go again... :D

Leave it to some in Congress if they can't get it on one bill, they will sneak it in on another one. Even if ACTA isn't passed, we better be vigiliant, since they won't rest, and neither should we.

Thinly veiled threats against the president, basically blatant admiting of bribing people.
They should be VERY glad that Obama is now president and not Bush anymore.
Because under Bush they would have been declared a terrorist organisation for threatening the President and carted of to Guantanamo Bay . .

It's been all over the news, or was a few days ago when it happened.

Basically, they've been put on hold, indefinitely.

http://arstechnica.c...oth-shelved.ars

They're not coming back, either. You wont' find a source that says that, but few politicians are crazy enough to support it anymore. Democrats largely don't like it, Republicans largely don't like it, and even if some in either party do, there's less and less willingness to admit it. In the GOP debates, just a bit back, every single candidate was not only denouncing it, but it was almost like they were trying to outdo each other (except for Santorum, who's statement sounded like a BS way of saying "I actually like this bill, but if I say so, my election chances are going bye-bye").

What's going to happen is other bills are going to come about, and this is where we really do have to be vigilant, not just about shooting down the bad ones with all the fury that hit SOPA/PIPA, but also perhaps in getting behind a good bill, if one is proposed, because that'll stop the threat of bad bills.

One example of the bills coming in the wake of hte SOPA/PIPA disaster is OPEN (http://www.pcworld.c...e_open_act.html), which I'm skeptical of, for obvious reasons, but which tentatively sounds like it might be a more sane law, if passed. The fact that it has the support of a lot of the companies who opposed SOPA/PIPA isn't nothing, and even more significantly, the MPAA hates it apparently, which is always a good sign (the reason they hate it is they know if something like it passes, their chances of a SOPA-type bill become nill).

Interesting times, no?

Filesonic also just disabled access to filesharing, due possibly to fear of being shut down. I hope and pray Mediafire isn't next.

I know SOPA and PIPA are the big talk, but don't forget that the rest of the world is involved too. ACTA is happening now and hardly anyone knows about it. Stop ACTA. It not only includes physical copyright infringement, conterfeiting, etc, but is so broad it includes the internet as well. Not just Americans have to out cry against it, but everyone.

Kid links to copyrighted movies and gets in trouble for it. Color me shocked. Granted he probably is even though the writting is on the walls.

Using a treaty like that though is odd.

Frankly I am disgusted. That's the problem with the United States (one of them). They push laws through that have wording and clauses that allow them to be used far beyond their intended scope; take this "Terrorist Extradition" agreement with the Kingdom of UK. This kid, while he may have done wrong by profiting from his actions, is being railroaded by the US politicians who in turn are suckling away at Corporate America.

"Government of the people, by the people (the people in charge that is, we the Corporate people) for the people (yes you little people, we mean you. Bend over)".

EDIT: Before one of you smart arses says "He's a Brit, not an American" I am fully aware of this.
