OK. I just watched you deal 410 damage with a stealth 2LPL RVN-3L in a CQ match, spread across 6-7 different 'Mechs and totalling about 60-70 damage per target. You almost got crumped twice by opponents but had the team bail you out...and then you lost pretty solidly with the vast bulk of the damage on either side belonging to big 'Mechs; you even had a 1k Mad Cat Mk. II on your team.
Then you played a River City match in a 2x C-ERPPC Adder, doing 294 damage across a similar number of targets while spending most of the match far away from the fight. Zero KMDDs, team carried you to an easy victory.
How does any of this prove Lights are OP?
What I notice is that your Light 'Mechs are built intelligently while your Assaults are built ridiculously (lol LGauss Atlas). Build your Assaults as intelligently as you build your Lights and you might be enlightened.

you do not do more damage than most assaults, most of the time. If you were, your publicly available stats would reflect that.
to answer the questions you ignored, a Deathstrike on your team did over 1000 damage.

that is not what you said. even a mediocre pilot can get 200-ish damage per match. In the ACH-PRIME I posted earlier I averaged double that. you said, and I need you to please stop lying, that you outdamage assaults in 99% of the games you play, which is an obvious and desperate falsehood not borne out by your stats, the way the game is constructed, or the lived experience of good players.

No matter how much you think you know about it (and you don't know a lot), it's not a good build for an Atlas for reasons that have little to do with the gun itself. You are playing meta builds on your Lights, why do you not do the same on your Assaults? Show me what you can do in a Deathstrike, Blood Asp, or a Slepnir.
And why are you typing in all caps like a lunatic?

Where are an Atlas' hardpoints mostly located on the mech relative to its cockpit level?
How much do you have to expose the Atlas in order to use light gauss at range?
What happens to all gauss rifles when they take too much damage? If that happens to one light gauss, what happens to the other one in the same torso?
Is an Atlas a staring DPS mech or a twist-BOOM-twist-BOOM brawler?

in all honesty i think lights are op as well lights should not be doing as much if not more dmg than assaults no matter how skilled they are lihgts have limited wieght fair call they are fast they are manuvablew they are small but they shouldnt have a high dmg output compared to an assault whose biggest thinbg is firepower
False.
It is not construed as a name & shame if it's on the topic of discussion and not shaming, you should look up the meaning of the word before using it.

1. Lore and other games do not apply to this game, because the position of your hardpoints on your mech relative to your cockpit matters
2. An AC/20 is good on an Atlas, lgauss is not
3. The reason why your stats are not good is because you build your assaults poorly.

300 damage -- a lot of which is spread uselessly across a bunch of mechs -- is not evidence of anything. Completely forgettable game. And again, we've already established you're an unreliable narrator with an inflated view of his own skills so I trust zero of what you have to say about your supposedly outdamaging assaults
which, again, would be reflected in your stats. If you're doing that then you're gonna skyrocket up the rankings, win a lot, carry games, kill more than you die. none of that is the case.

I'm not a competitive-level player, but I'm OK. I average--over the course of hundreds of games -- way more than that in lights. But, crucially, I beat that average handily in even bad assaults.

I have no idea where you got the impression that only top players can get over 200 damage per match in a Light. Top players are doing 600+ damage in their Lights regularly, anything less is a mediocre match. I am not even a top player and I don't have an average damage lower than 350 in my Top 20 Lights, with the Top 10 all being north of 430.
And like pattonesque, I beat that in Assaults. I absolutely suck in Assaults, and my Top 20 don't drop below 440 while the Top 10 are all more than 500.
I also didn't see you doing more damage than larger 'Mechs overall; I saw you doing better than some Assaults on the losing side, but a lot of people in Assaults were outdamaging you pretty handily. Go ahead and post the screenshots for those 6 matches.

I'm sure others have plenty to say but here's my personal list of which lights I consider to have an OP feature (not totally OP, just have one feature that is way better than all the other lights). I can't remember the specific variant for some of these so you'll have to look them up.
IS
Flea - superfast, teeny tiny size, and ECM option make it harder to see or hit at range than any other mech, easily fixed by upscaling it a bit to match the Locust in size (they're basically the same mech)
Locust Pirate Bane - superfast, tiny size, and ECM again - not as bad as the Flea though, so maybe borderline okay?
Commando - superfast, tiny size, and ECM yet again (have you spotted a pattern yet) - not as bad as the Flea thanks to chunky thighs, borderline
Note that it's really only the ECM variants that are 'OP' but that combination of speed size and ecm is what makes them hard to notice and hard to hit, especially for tier 5 mechdads like me
Clan
Arctic Cheetah - speed, jump jets, ECM and a bunch of (high mount) weapons. While not as small as the Commando the Cheater is still pretty small and has the benefits of jump jets too
Piranha - tiny size, super fast, ridiculous number of hardpoints. The only non ECM light mech that can be considered 'OP'. Still a one trick pony though
That's pretty much it as far as I'm concerned. A common theme is that all of the mechs I consider to be a bit 'OP' are that they are very small so I suspect that carefully upscaling them a bit would quickly remove their status.
ECM and stealth give those mechs a huge advantage over all other lights. The rest are pretty inferior for various reasons. looking at is jenners it took light pilot literal years just to get a slight armor increase on its arms from a mere 14 to 20-24 depending on tree use.
Low hard point count and size still are the two biggest reasons why 35tons are under powered and weak compared to the 20 tons.

this does not mean the FS9-A is more impactful than assaults. It just means I took a well-built (and recently-buffed) light, played it well in a group, and in a few cases got lucky. On average, I'd be more effective in an Annihilator or Mad Cat.
SCRAPMETAL99, on 14 June 2021 - 06:21 PM, said:
a Commando is certainly good at doing that (especially in lower tiers where people see a light and panic and can't hit anything)
Assaults are better at the majority of other things, though. You can peek and poke in your 2-LPL Raven and assuming you hit the right components you can contribute, but someone in a Deathstrike can expose just a little bit of the mech, dump 80-ish damage, and get back to cover having won the trade handily.

Let me tell you some thing about lights. I'd rather see a light do under 500 damage and get kills than a high damage number and very few kills. As this game rewards damage and kills above all else your mechs, all of them, should be focused on killing. I challenge you to get ace of spades in any light with any build of your choice if you think you are so good on lights vs every one else having proved you are not as good as you think.
Even if you already have the achievement show us the full un-edited two end game screens showing your damage and reward break down as well as the team damage kill screen. Just to show what is capable as the far most outlier possible here is what I did when the locusts were new without ecm or stealth.

It doesn't matter in the abstract how good of a player you are. There's at least one dude on here who's Tier 5 with poor stats, but everything he says lines up with how the game works.
You're making some pretty extreme claims here. So I have to examine those claims based on what I know about the game, based on the evidence you provide, and based on how you perform as a player, because if you say something counter to how I understand the game works and your stats back it up, then I'd have to consider it.
Like if Bows3r or someone along those lines comes in here and says, hey everyone, check it out, light machine guns are actually the most powerful weapon in the game, assuming he's saying that in good faith, I'd have to consider it because clearly he has an advanced understanding of the game.
I can't afford you the same consideration.
