The more mechs we get in this game the better, imo.

It's not a complaint my man. It's just stating facts. That shield will be a giant target for the alpha strike bros. It's a cool idea and a great looking mech. Dude did awesome making it. Sadly in this current envrionment it's toast.

Would definitely work a bit better than just adding what amounts to a single Sweaty Level Alpha Strike. Still won't last long unfortuntely. Time to kill is embarrassingly quick for a Mechwarrior game. In lore its meant to be slug outs not Pew-it-DED like it is now.

HAG/BLC introduction was a poor decision at the time it was made and it's yet to be ameliorated sufficently, if it even can.
I mean, what can you do? Some of the people in charge of balancing wanted a reskinned COD... and they for intents and purposes they got it. At this point its laugh all the way to the server shut down.

I don't know how you fight against centurions, but I generally like to either focus the gun arm or drill that MASSIVE CT they have. If I'm focusing the shield arm of a centurion something is going very wrong for me or very right for the centurion

TTK for a Mechwarrior game is shamefully, detrimentally, and embarrassingly short. Shields won't help. Looks cool though man! Paint looks awesome.
MW2, 3, and 4 had absurdly low TTK, with zero ghost heat, and could boat insane numbers of weapons. Ever Play MW4 multiplayer? Tag, then ALL CERLL to one shot someone. done.
in Tabletop, if you're that unlucky, a single ML can kill a fresh mech. or a TAC on ammo, blowing you up instantly... you name it.

In TT those are the lucky shots not the standard. Mechs most the time are not being obliterated from across the map consistently. I dont ever recall TTK being 'one shot alpha poof'

GREAT! Then I might be able to put one on my EXE, and not have the arm with all the lasers as the larger "shield" arm.

Are you playing stock armor lights only and stare at people 24/7 or something?
This post and the "reskinned cod" comment somewhat tells you don't play cod too.
Must be some alternate universe MWO, where you have 1 mech one-shot 12 all by himself as the "standard".
Because... you know, good players can do 20+ killstreaks in cod?

I get clipped from far out quite a bit. Now, might I exaggerate for comedic sarcasm now and then? That I do. In all seriousness it still feels a bit quick to lose a torso or get cored out fast. I just don't think that shield will be very useful with the high alphas we see as normal these days. It looks cool and its a fun concept so it's nice to see a mech coming that doesn't add to the insta murder. I just don't see it really protecting well unless there's a way to move it in front of you as you charge, maybe with a weapon group trigger.

Its interesting, but not sure the playstyle is going to differ that much from the YLW.

Can we get a shield urbie next?

Fair assessment, but it's a big advantage when you do get to brawling.

So if the shield arm gets blown off, you know it was working as intended right?
This Centurian looks like it's intended to escort and stand in front a high mounted assault like a stalker... absorbing a few hits while the stalker shoots blue flashlights from behind you. By the time the shield arm is gone, the game is already snowballing in your favor.

Played MW4:Mercs multiplayer a few times, but yeah boating PPCs or gauss + ppcs was just nasty. Twin LBX20 and PPCs was just as nasty for a brawler, but with how open the maps were range always won.
Pretty much. MWO still has the highest TTK, and while yes, there's a downward trend to that TTK, things should be adjusted soon enough. I won't be the only one to say that TTK is going down, but it's still not anywhere close to a COD game. Yes, mechs move faster than people, but that's to be expected when the slowest stock speed in the game is still faster than the average run at 32 KPH.

In Mech3, 3 or 4 cERPPC could leg just about any mech in the game. Legging was an instakill. Also any mech 75t and up could easily handle four cERPPCs
Meanwhile in MWO town, the only instakills are big alpha against small mech or cockpit shots

Define "far out". Most of the highest alpha builds are about 400-600m range, that's midrange, the rest are high alpha brawlers. Long range alphas in quick play are pretty tame by comparison.

Maybe you do. But it's hard to discern it among all the other similar silly comparisons some people make from time to time here unironically.

So would you rather lose a side torso or a shield to that high alpha? Sounds useful enough to me, for build/playstyle diversity sake. I too wish the game had more mechs with unique loadouts and roles... but it is what it is.

While it would be nice to have that option, the good old torso twisting will do just fine, considering how much that barndoor of a shield covers. Surprised it's called a "medium" shield.
