Ah, that makes sense. Thank you. :D Still trying things and experimenting.

Thank you. :D That's an excellent job (as usual!) on your Blackjacks, too. ;) Those textures are incredible.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of your progress on your Blackjack as well, Odanan. It looks wonderful so far.

I just finished a reworking of one of my earlier pieces for the 1st Capellan Dragoons, and I'm pretty happy with it (especially with figuring how to get the silly logos to place better).

For comparison:

...

After:

Agreed it is much better. You are certainly getting the hang of this. Quick tip (though Hayden gave the same one a few pages back), try desaturating your colors a bit for more realism. In real life, that green would appear somewhat duller.

After I make the masked layer on the Blackjack completely white, then what?

Brenden, I assume you refer to Nacon's template, correct? What I did was use his base layer without background, selected only the 'Mech and filled with white. I reduced the layer's opacity in order to select and strip areas which I wanted to keep as per the original base, such as the cockpit and lasers. I then copied that layer twice. Then you just need to switch the first one to soft light and adjust the percentage to your liking. Second layer can be switched to 'color' so that your white silhouette will bleach the base yellow of Alex Iglesias's skin work (that's assuming it's not Hayden's...). Your top layer then becomes your base if you put it in 'multiply' mode (just like Hayden did in his templates). Paint layers above need to be set as 'clipping masks' for you to paint over... Have fun!

This Blackjack ‘Mech is nicknamed Rooster and is piloted by fictional character Rico Hill (call sign ‘Gamecock’). With distant half Irish, half Italian origins, Rico is always in for a good brawl (in or out of ‘Mech) unless he’s busy gamblin’. I'm a fan of the little details, like the ****'s comb on Rooster here. If you weren't aware of the name, it might be dismissed as a random pattern, but with the right information, it stands right out and fits perfectly with the theme.

Edit: In hindsight, I should have expected that to get filtered. Another word for rooster.

Any Capellan Blackjcaks coming down the pipe, Ironhawk?

I wanted to make them myself, but after countless tries to get the template to work, I gave up. :P

Here is my own humble contribution to the thread.

This is a Blackjack from 1st Robinson Rangers, 3rd Battalion, G Company, Third Lance. The pilot's callsign is "Badger."

Credits go to Nacon for the initial template work and to IronHawk for inspiration. (It's not as good as your works for our unit!) Also special thanks to Odnan for just being cool in general :-P

Anyway here it is - it's still a work in progress...

I believe you used the template by Nacon (I didn't actually made a template). :P

I will no longer be posting art here as my new boss Dennis de Koning has forbidden me from releasing any concept art to the public.

ED: got rid of a lot of extra commas :P

Late to the party, but congratulations man! It's awesome to see your talents have paid off and good luck to you!

Thank you for both the compliment, and the advice. ;) How's this?

I had some fun playing with saturation (among other different effects), and even came up with a really good blue out of that green. :)

Sad re: your template not working. Will have to clean up layers and setup a BJ template soon... Wasn't my intention to do another Blackjack at this point, unless of course you have a very specific request. After that last one I'll stop there though because I want to go back to a secret, little project I've been working on pretty recently... :)

Dude, look them up on pages 160,162-166 of this thread. There's an orgy of Highlanders waiting for you. Enjoy!

IH, if you've got the time, I'd like to see one of your's done in the 1st Blackburn's Raiders theme, eh?

L zard, I can give it a try but will match the existing theme as closely as possible out of respect for Hayden (understanding he can't issue fan artwork at this point). The 1st BR theme is in my eyes one of Hayden's best signature themes on this thread...

EDIT: Preference of with or without wear and tear?

Any thing is fair, IH! With Hayden out of this, it's either you or I'm not sure that will get 'er done, eh?

I'm still fiddling with GIMP and trying to get better, and got some info from Hayden about how he did the schemes.

My only big issue right now is I'm having problem actually painting with anyone but Hayden's templates, I can fuzzy select the 'mechs in his templates and it selects the overall 'mech (minus the important bits,) but can't seem to do the same with Ironhawk or Nacon's.

I can give you my Blackjack template if you like Gallows. It works the same as Hayden's templates. My highlander one is posted up somewhere as well.
