That's certainly a Timberwolf. Well done on the model, it looks fantastic.

The feet seem to land a little far back, which would make it tend to tip forward. Its a difficult mech to get the legs done 100% right in, but it's a great job.

I agree with Nakru. The model looks much better now, but there is still a feel it might be off balance.

Here are my MS Paint skills: :D

There's the monster we'll be running into in six month's time. Very well-done! It's been an adventure, and thank you for sharing it with us!

It looks bloody fantastic.

Are you going to paint it?

I might. Feel free to suggest a paint scheme.

Its legs have always looked a bit unrealistic regarding how it can hold all that weight. In fact, a lot of the artwork and models have the upper half of the legs being fairly thin and the lower half being very large by comparison, which would lead me to think they'd just snap. The balancing in this model, on the other hand, does appear to be a little off. The feet seem to land a little far back, which would make it tend to tip forward. Its a difficult mech to get the legs done 100% right in, but it's a great job.

I tried to get the center of the foot where all of the weight is displaced into the ground - directly below the center of gravity. Rather than the center of the torso. Directly above the feet you have 2x ER Large Lasers (4t each), 2x ERM Lasers (1t each), 2x M. Pulse Lasers (2t each), 2x LRM 15 (3.5t each), 3t ammo (2t LRMs and 1t MG), 7t worth of heat sinks, and for the bulk of the weight -- a 19.5t engine. 12t armor is spread over the surface of the chassis, with 2t of that in the legs. The part outside of the red box has 2x MGs (0.5t each) and 2 ERS Lasers (0.5t each)

Realize that in BattleTech, 1t = 1,000kg. The MGs are listed at 500kg. For a real world example, the GAU-8 Avenger mounted in the A-10 Thunderbolt II weighs around 1,800kg with ammo feed system and drum. The gun itself weighs around 270kg.

Each foot has a surface area of about 12.6m (5.6m long, 4.5m wide; calculated for the area of a triangle).

Yes, I put that much thought into my models. I can be such a geek sometimes!

And thanks to all of you who have appreciated my build! I'm not exactly sure what I'll build next. Perhaps the Mad Dog, or even a Warhawk. I have half of those already done (TWolf and DWolf have been built!). Or a model I've rarely seen built: the Storm Crow.

Or I could build MWO's Jenner. Plenty of references online for that model.

So many possibilities for the future.

Hana, may I ask why you went with that type of knee joint? It seems that due to the change, the pelvis is a bit wide, making the entire width of pelvis<upper leg<lower leg much wider looking. Just curious is all! Amazing work by the way!!!

Maybe but i think in Mechwarrior Visuals > Realism )

I kinda still think that legs should be centered regardless of mass point. Just estetically. Because realistically speaking, the backward bent legs can't work in any mech just because of the ammounts of stress on the joints

In reality yes, but in battletech and I think most people miss this, battlemechs use artificial muscles. Myomer muscular structure allows tremendous amounts of force to be absorbed and excerted. Most people drawing art forget this, basically think of battlemechs and the human/animal like skeletal and muscle structure and that is how things operate via the battletech universe.

This negates the physical stress in joints, just like how our bodies handle the stress of impact and forces that happen upon us.

OP - Hana, great work! You taking suggestions for the next project?

I'd vote for the Mad Dog, or if you want to do another one of the Unseen, the Rifleman, though I'd like to see what you could do for a Marauder too.

I have one in mind. Maybe recreating the "The Clans Are Coming" BT poster from 1990. You can see that I have an Elemental to go along with this factory-fresh Timber Wolf. And the grunt inside looks really angry.

Huh. Rifleman rebuild... I've already built one years ago when TRO: PP came out, but I wasn't really happy with it.

I would like to see what you could do to the unseen Marauder. With your skills it would be very interesting to see how you would modernize and refresh the design.

That's a bit overdone, I think.

The more original mech she picks, the better... at least in my opinion.

Like the Madcat, the Marauder is another one of those designs that have been picked at over and over. Bishop did a really good rendition already and someone's taken on that design.

I think I'll revisit the Mad Dog, then maybe go at the Storm Crow. I haven't really done many Clan 'mechs. So far I've done this, the Dire Wolf, and a suit of battle armor. Most of my models are InnerSphere.

But first, I'll give this model some life. This is just a first run. So far I've just mapped the forward part of the torso and added simple camo to the rest. A lot of work needs to be done still.

The Ghost Bear insignia is on the other side in the same location as this Delta Galaxy emblem.

If you're trying to avoid the more commonly done Mechs, you might try the Caulron-Born/Ebon Jaguar, Stone Rhino/Behemoth, or Glass Spider/Galahad. Just tossing out some Clan Mech ideas for you.

Texturing seems to be going slowly. I spent more time with photoshop than I did in 3D. Mapped out the rest of the torso, made an actual procedural texture map as a base, and touched up my existing paint job.

This is mostly playing with the lights to see how my paint looks under the sun.

Sorry I missed your post. I had to look up the Glass Spider since I'd forgotten what it looked like. Then I realized it looks a lot like the Rifleman IIc. The Stone Rhino is part of the Marauder family and IIRC the original design is relegated to the Unseen mech bin. Sadly since it was a big nasty beast in Ghost Bear's Legacy.

Um...the software says, "1.02286e."

OK, finished the paint on the torso locations.
