A training ground is a must but otherwise what I saw of the game using an i3 with IGP was good

After accounting for repair costs, the Premium Time modifier almost doubles your profit per game. Overall, it'll be more MC efficient.
is there a page showing how premium time works? how much bonus it gives and how long it lasts and how much?

Not that I know of. But it adds 50% XP and C-Bills to whatever you earn at the end of the game. Given that your repair costs are constant, its actual effect is more like +50% XP, +100% C-Bill profits.
How long it lasts depends on how many days of it you buy, which you can decide when purchasing premium time in the client via MC.
As of now the 4 things most worth using MC on, IMO are probably:
1. MC only cockpit decorations.
2. MC only MechBay slots.
3. MC only Hero Mechs.
4. Premium Time.
I'll steer clear of using MC on paint jobs until they become permanent instead of pay-per-use things, and buying normal Mechs with MC wouldn't be worth it in a very short while, accumulated Premium Time bonuses are very powerful.
If you must buy Mechs with MC, buy the Hero type. =P

9th game in and I survived a battle! Even helped with the capping which I was dead chuffed with.
Couple of quick questions -
1) Is there a way of getting the menu screen fullscreen? At the moment the bottom line is behind my taskbar and I can't see most of it, if I try to move the window it just snaps back.
2) How good are the mechs I'm fighting against? In World of Tanks you fight people with tanks about the same level as yours, is there a similar system here or am I trying to kill people with hundreds of games behind them in good mechs?
3) I can see a couple of stats in my profile on this website, is there a way of seeing these in game? Also, can I see more stats like total assists, total damage, etc.?
4) What do factions do? Is there an in-game difference if I choose one over another?

I'm from Portugal GMT time and quite fluent in English.
Still not sure what to do next after downloading the game, so any tips are welcome.

Perhaps the 2 most important things you will need to know is when starting is:
1. how to change your weapon groups: right ctrl toggles a weapon for a weapon group, and you arrow keys move you around the weapons and weapon groups.
2. The trial mechs are suboptimal and you will find them frustrating until you get into the groove of understanding how to control you heat buildup with that mech.
My guide here has a lot of info you will find interesting:

Already launched myself a couple of times, and indeed was a frustrating and short experience!
Will check your guides and will download TS3 to see if I can improve.

There is one trial mech available for each weight class: light, medium, heavy, assault.
Each weight class has strengths and weaknesses as well as roles that it is meant to work with.
My guide goes over this info as well.
Learning the role the mech is configured for will also help you stay alive and contribute more effectively.
This is a complicated game with a kinda steep learning curve, but it is manageable with some patience and guidance.
You are off to a great start, by posting here even before you started your first match!!
Wheee!!

There are groups accepting newbies, and people who form groups dedicated to teach new players as well. It is up to you if you prefer to learn alone or from them. After all the problem with learning from others is that you tend to pick up their 'bad' habits as well as the 'good', and certain things that they themselves don't know, they can't teach. However, the advantage of learning from others is that it's much, much faster.
Really your choice whether you prefer to stumble around in the dark or have someone light the way for you. The first will be more painful at the start, but you'll gain a stronger overall understanding of the game. The second will be easier to start off, but you will see only a part of the game.

Well, will give myself a shot for now and will decide later about joinning a group. Thanks for the reply.

Exactly what I am doing, play against the groups, see which ones are decent and which ones are A-holes, learn who the decent players are, listen to the gossip, yada, yada...
Community warfare comes in, pick a team, have fun (until then it's all BETA anywho).
Updated weekly updates, also added a promotion area so new peeps can quickly (and hopefully accurately) see all the current promo's going on and when they end.
Still need a new format for this post, I'm open to suggestions, I'd like more current info on top and the older stuff maybe even in a ref link (which I hate doing).
Hmmmm...maybe more spoiler tag usage to shorten it up a bit?

Have to say I am enjoying the game immensly and have already built a couple of mechs(Now using a centurian). Only problem the mechs have is me!!!! I have a tendancy to engage to many mechs or go one on one with something twice my size head to head...think I may need a bigger mech

Anyway...just saying hi
