BTW...

I hate the commando. But that looks spectacular. Love the sensor array in the right eye and the cockpit in the left.

Loving the redesign. The Centurion had me worried, but this art was restored my faith. Keep it up!

Glad to see this mech added to the stable! Never been thrilled about a missle boat though. Nothing worse than a "click" when your backed into a corner facing another mech. ;)

Awesomely solid light 'mech! Glad to see it's making it's way into MW:O.

A Commando can be a dangerous mech in the right hands. The redesign is pretty cool too. More believable in design.

If you don't think both those mechs LOOK LIKE HUMANS, then you need to get your eyes AND your ears checked.

I don't really think getting my ears checked is going to help with arguing on the internet...

LOOK LIKE HUMANS. LOOK LIKE HUMANS. Drive that phrase home, cause that's the issue I have here. Both the Commando and the Centurion look like humans. Their proportions and silhouettes are similar to a human. A Catapault is not. A Timber Wolf is not. That is the only point I'm trying to make here.

Are you concerned you'll mistake them for infantry?

Ravens, Mad Dogs, Longbows, these Mechs look unique to one another; they are the types of chassis I was hoping for.

One isn't an inner sphere 'mech, one doesn't come into being until 3058... you're going to be waiting a while for those.

Well, this mech has the monocle. But what happened to the top hat and cane??

One screenshot I'll be looking forward to (hopefully more of a video with the camera panning around) is one with the Commando and the Atlas side-by-side showing the size difference.

And GJ on the redesign. Another one with more "military machine flair" and a bit less, but not much less, "man in a suit" look.

lol @ Solis Obscuri You're REALLY stretching for a semblence of a rebuttal, aren't you? :)

I'm actually kind of waiting for you to offer something in the way of proof demonstrating that a Centurion and a Commando are indistinguishable from one another. There isn't a whole lot of room for "rebuttal" when we're dealing your opinion.

View PostAegis Kleais™, on 22 February 2012 - 07:47 PM, said:

I can't believe I'm actually explaining this, but "Ears checked" is analogous in a forum environment to that you're obviously not hearing what I'm saying. No, don't take that LITERALLY. I would hope you would understand that since the forums merely provide text, unless you use a screen reader, there wouldn't be any actual "hearing" involved (unless of course you talk aloud as you read the screen)

I just thought it was an odd choice of wording, and it amused me. Was just poking fun, not trying to ruffle feathers. :)

View PostAegis Kleais™, on 22 February 2012 - 07:47 PM, said:

Secondly, of course. I'm concerned that I might mistake a 25T war machine as a human. That's exactly the point I'm making. Wait, scratch that; with as literal as you're taking me, I don't think you'll get text-based sarcasm either. So what I just said right here was sarcasm. DON'T take it seriously or literally.

I was beginning to wonder.
^^^ And that's sarcasm there, too.

Well, mostly. I actually was beginning to wonder a bit, the way you were going on.

View PostAegis Kleais™, on 22 February 2012 - 07:47 PM, said:

"Ravens, Mad Dogs, Longbows, etc." is giving you an EXAMPLE (again, you're taking things TOO literally) I'm showing how those Mechs and their silhouettes provide a unique and, therefore, quick way to identify the Mech from near any range.

Maybe you should have chosen your example more carefully? If you'd said "Ravens, Guillotines, Stalkers, Rifleman, etc." I'd have seen the point, since I'd reasonably expect those to be around at launch, but not the others.

....Honestly, let's not try so hard to over-analyze what I'm saying here. I've never seen so many people on this forum assault me for merely wanting more diversity with chassis designs. If the Commando is a personal favorite of yours, understand that my disapproval of it is not a reflection on you; it's merely a subjective opinion. Don't use transference and feel as if I'm attacking you personally; I'm not.

I like the Commando, I'd have been happy to see a Hussar or a Crab or a Guillotine or a Thunderbolt or a Stalker or a Thug or...

I just don't think the argument that the Commando and the Centurion "look the same" is credible. Both are somewhat humanoid, but both have unique and distinctive features. If they'd released a Wasp and a Stinger back-to-back, or a Panther and a Wolfhound back-to-back, I'd be disappointed along with you. Plus, the Catapult was just released as 'mech 5, and that's totally non-humanoid, among the relative few in the I.S. pre-Invasion that are totally non-humanoid in design.

Excellent.

Oh, and in case some of you are still confused as to why FD added a "monocle" to the Commando's head, I point you to the US Army's Land Warrior program: http://en.wikipedia....ki/Land_warrior

Notice the OLED computer display attached to this guy's helmet:

Not saying that it's the exact reason why FD chose to design the head assembly that way, but there is precidence. There are also fictional examples of people using these type of advanced displays as far back as the original Aliens movie (the Marines using the smart gun) and as late as Solid Snake in MGS4.

I used to be a clanner and loved the non humanoid designs. Now that I've started playing more with the TRO 3025 mechs in megamek and reading the novels, it's great to see more older designs, even if some of them really look similar. Personally i don't see for what reasons mechs actually need to look unique. If they look the same, they look the same. What's wrong with that?

Looks much better than the original - wont be playing it without case tho'.Not with only 4 tons of armour.

Against most lights, 4 tons of armor is plenty. If you're facing something bigger, you've got more to worry about than ammo explosions.

LOL @ this, there was a post back there about smashing someone's teeth out through a cockpit. Wonder why anyone would think you were taking it personally? Go ahead and pick this apart too :)

I like the "eye patch". I can imagine the thing rotating this way and that when the pilot cycles through his various sensors. Very nice rendition of what I always saw as a dull Mech. ( I couldn't wait to get out of it in MW2: Mercs )

I never used the SRM6 on that 'mech because I didn't want to waste the ammo. Got in to an Awesome and stayed with it after.
